Come on, guys. It's not like they're closing the George Washington Bridge or Lincoln Tunnel. What are we talking - a 1-minute delay?
FYI:They're not closing the Lincoln Tunnel.
BUT,they just started reconstruction of the 495 approach to it.
30 month project, with 1 lane closed in each direction.
So far the back-ups haven't been too horrendous. But the first stages of the project are less "intense".
What people are dreading are the back-ups after Labor Day when everyone is back from summer vacation and schools are open.
Broadway is already feeling the pinch from people not wanting to even attempt to get in to the City, even by mass transit.
In fact, N.J. Transit has spent the summer cancelling trains due to a lack of engineers and the installation of Positive Train Control systems.
They estimate that, during morning rush hour(?) the back up to get to the Tunnel, even for express buses, using a dedicated lane, will be over 7 miles, back to Met Life Stadium.
That's 2-3 times what it is now.
Normal rush hour has around 1 hour waits to get to the tunnel with no alternate routes.
