Trying to move the game to any other location at this late a date presents a number of logistical issues.

One of the biggest is travel arrangements, for both teams.

Even if you move to a location outside the direct path of the storm, its effects are going to cause all kinds of havoc with flights, charter or commercial.

You also need to figure out how you're going to get everything and everyone from Va. to the new location.

Assuming they can get their flight out,O.U.has to be able to get their people and equipment to the alternate location too.
They can use Google Maps.

Google maps tells you "where".

It doesn't tell you "how".
1. Load the same truck.

2. Drive truck to alternate location.

The much bigger issue would seem to be hotels and meals, meeting space, etc.
The Interstates don't require reservations.

Also, can we please stop comparing this to the Akron-Nebraska situation?

That games was cancelled essentially day of due to a midwestern thunderstorm.

This is a major US bound hurricane wth days and days of warnings. I think the situations are entirely different.
Please re-read my original post. I did not compare the two situations or the two weather events.

I've seen some headlines this past week about Nebraska cancelling their home-opener this season against Akron due to weather.

Nebraska asked Akron to play the game on Sunday rather than Saturday, and Akron declined causing a dispute on weather Akron was owed their guarantee $ for the game.

I didn't bother reading the contract specifics, but it sounded like some legal BS debating "rain-cancellation" vs "lightning-cancellation" in the contract terminology.

...

I don't think there is any chance of that specific situation here (both Virginia and Ohio have Saturday games the following week & it doesn't sound like the weather situation will be any better on Sunday) but I think it's worth highlighting the above situation to point out beyond the football-concerns the powers-that-be will probably be factoring in the contract into their decision about this game and when/where it is played.

I'd guess it's either a rain-soaked affair or cancelled outright.

Whoah boy. Real media picking this thing up.

Not following why this wouldn't move to Athens instead? Is it due to seating capacity? It can't be due to distance. According to the article, Nashville is 550 miles from Charlottesville, while Athens is only 335 miles.
Do we have 50 spare hotel rooms on short notice on any given Fall weekend?

Probably because UVA doesn't want to play this as a true road game
Maybe Nashville is where all the people from the Charlottesville area are evacuating to.

Free admission
That should boost attendance by enticing locals, including Vandy students to go to the game.

A lot of people on here, social media and even the UVA forum were comparing it. If I was referencing you in specific I would have quoted your comment.

Hats off to both universities for exercising some foresight and implementing a quick solution. Another week without Bobcat football would have been difficult for me.

Will the neutral site change the line on this game? Could it go to Cats +3.5?

Agree that kudos for both schools for making this happen

The advantage UVA has as the Designated Home Team is they access to "Blowing The Admiral" when/if they score.

I wonder how I might explain this to my wife who is a UVA alum..

I wonder if there might be a last minute change of plans and the 110 Attend? It was going to be band day at UVA and they would not give the 110 a slot to perform on the field.

The Post article said yes.

I wonder if Ohio's ties to the Vandy coaching staff played a part in picking Vandy as the spot? In any case, hats off to both athletic departmlents for acting early and making this happen.

I imagine Jason Groom was probably involved. Started out as a Student Assistant under Jim Grobe and has sure done well.

The new UVA AD Carla Williams came from Georgia where my daughter is a fourth year student. Her main assignment at UGA was the football program and Kirby paid her a huge compliment about how helpful she was during his transition. Carla and Kirby's wife both played basketball at UGA.

Williams helped oversee the development of a new locker room (old locker room was a staging room with no lockers or showers. The project included a new recruiting lounge, new upper and lower plaza, new scoreboard and new gates off the bridge. $63 Million for the project.

Yes and those ties also got the Bobcats Vanderbilt’s hotel accommodations. There is something big happening in Nashville and all the hotels are booked. I’m not sure where Virginia is staying.

Now that the storm is not much of a threat in Virginia the joke on thesabre is that Clemson has asked if they can move their game to Charlottesville.

ESPN's schedule page has 1,047 seats available for the game for as little as $8 (it links to VividSeats). What a bargain!!!
