Ugh.... When are they going to finally get rid of those ugly corner bleachers, and actually add something that is attached to the grand stands and wraps around the entire endzone or attaches to both the grand stand and the new Sook Center? Peden Stadium will always look busch league until those are removed and the better seating is added.
+1000
$7 million ought to do it. Will you be writing a check?
what would have been a nice idea is building the academic center as part of a new grandstand in the endzone with dualpurpose boxes/offices and SRO at the top. Would have been an efficient way to solve two issues. Would have cost more than the current center, but would have accomplished so much more. Now, we just have one more awkward looking appendage on what is the Homer Simpson car of football stadiums.

I was just curious if there are any updated pictures of the Academic Center. I would have to imagine it's progressing along.

They've started to put the brick facade up on one corner of the section facing toward Walter Hall. I was planning to wait a week or so when more of the brick was up and take some more shots.

Thanks in advance for doing that!

I thought the same thing but I have to imagine perhaps the University believes it's cost-prohibitive, especially since there would only be a dozen or so of us that would look at it. ;)

What does surprise me is that OhioBobcats.com has the Academic Center pictured under its "Facilities" tab but doesn't have any updated pictures since January. I suppose it shouldn't surprise me since Ohio's map of the campus it has listed on its website still shows the Wolfe Street Apartments and not the beautiful dorms that replaced them several years ago!

I know the campus webcam is sponsored by the Alumni Association.

O.U. is still accepting donations for the Academic Facility.

They are also pushing their new "Building Champions" initiative.

Maybe the Athletic Department/Bobcat Club could sponsor this webcam so people could see how donations are being spent.

How about a BobcatAttack.Com Webcam on top of the telephone pole at the corner of Richland and Shaffer? Remotely rotatable, so it could look over to the stadium or toward the Convo. I'd donate to the project. We just need a chairman of the committee to take on the leadership role. Any volunteers?

If BA will cover the costs of my required weekly visits to Athens to oversee the project, from inception, until completion ,including airfare,or use of O.U.'s plane, hotel (O.U. Inn only),including Homecoming and meals I'll volunteer .

Your list of requests aren't unreasonable at all. ;)

Thanks, Steve and Ted. I could never get inside for that view. My past photos and the ones I hope to take next week are and will be from the outside.

It looks nice. It will tighten the place up a little more. I’m guessing it won’t be ready for kickoff.

As promised, in another thread, here are a few more shots, taken just a few days ago after my return from a Mediterranean Cruise, which I enjoyed immensely. Also enjoyed when I got home seeing all of the progress on the Academic Center.

And finally, your humble correspondent in front of another marvelous piece of architecture, better known for the moment than the Academic Center.  But wait until Frank Solich drops a football off the top of the Academic Center on the top of the head of a Miami Redchicken to prove once again that Miami sucks.  Everyone will forget the name of Galileo! wink

Regarding the leaning tower of Pisa: About 20 years ago, a ww2 veteran who lives in Athens who came in my store told me the following story; His outfit was the one who was sweeping the town and they came under fire from a sniper in the large white building. He and about 10 others ran across the open area and took cover behind the tower. Several shots he said, glanced off the walls when they peered around to look but they stayed put while the rest of the unit outflanked the sniper and entered the white building (a church?). The sniper had departed at that point. Now when I see the tower, I can not help but think of that event. Just shows how history is intertwined.

Interesting story. Thanks for sharing. What store do you own?

Here are a few more shots of the Academic Center construction.  These were the only inside shots I was able to get.  They were taken a few days before I left on the overseas trip so they are a few weeks old.

If we put a Shake Shack sign on it, could we trick a bunch of students to come to football games?

According to a mailing I got,the dedication ceremony for the Sook Center is 10/26.

Looking at the pictures, they've got a lot of work to get done by then.

Doesn't look like that much more work. It looks like something that can easily be completed in 6 weeks. It's not a 50 story skyscraper. It would really be a disappointment if it's not at least functional by homecoming and there are still barriers up all around the front of the stadium.

I was told that they were rushing to get the exterior finished to get that cleaned up and that the interior needs would be what was finished over final 3 months.

I'm just disappointed that OCF didn't include a photo from his most recent travels with his latest photos of the academic center. Maybe next time?
