I would love to see a row of fans dressed as Howard Cosell, Howard Stern, Howard Wolowitz, Howard Cunningham and Howard the Duck.
How about Moe and Curly Howard.
That's an excellent trivia question. But I thought I was pushing the age limit with the Howard Cunningham reference...
Do they still run re-runs of Happy Days? I'm talking the pre-jumping the shark episodes.
No. And I blame Scott Baio for that.

Talk about thread drift. Did You Know: Happy Days was a spin-off that led to a number of spin-offs, including Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy.
So really it was like the Marvel Cinematic Universe before that was even conceived?!

Excuse my ignorance...but will ESPN+ games be streamable on ESPN3?

Pretty much the sole reason I keep my cable package is for my ESPN3 login. So if I'm all the sudden unable to watch half the Ohio football and basketball games on ESPN3 anymore, I see no reason to continue paying $45 a month for my TV subscription.
We cut the chord as of last week. We're all in on Hulu. They tell me I can still use WatchESPN/ESPN3.... we are keeping our Spectrum internet.
This is what I have and it is correct. I will say the Hulu streaming interface suuuuuuucks though. I don't want to get rid of it because the Hulu library is so extensive.
It is the worst interface on the Apple TV I've encountered.

Since this is the first game ever between Ohio and Howard, the game is interesting for another reason, that no one has mentioned. OCF has done a great deal of research on the subject however, and has been trying with very limited success to bring it to peoples' attention. Ask the question, "Who was the first black qb to play for a major college team?", and no one knows the answer. One suggestion is that perhaps the answer is Robert Robertson, who played for the University of Oregon in 1927.
https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200811091531...
Another possible answer is Charles West, who played for Washington & Lee in the 1922 Rose Bowl:
http://thecomeback.com/ncaa/dr-charles-west-first-african...

In fact, much earlier, in 1903, Arthur Carr was the QB for Ohio. After Ohio, he went on to Howard Medical School, and later taught at Howard. Even there, the ties between Carr and Ohio Football don't end. Carr's family donated to the University the land on which Peden was built. I wish OCF would post some of his research here. I do have a photo of the 1903 team that OCF sent me, but I have to figure out how to post it. Perhaps one of the admins can PM me, and I can send it to them for them to post.

Edit - OCF just let me know that he has at long last had some success (he has been working on this for over a year), and this story will be covered by the Athens News, and perhaps by the Southeast Ohio History Center.

These history lessons are fantastic. Please keep them coming. I love that the 1903 team looks like it consisted of only 17 guys, and two of them are not in uniform, so possibly only 15. Four of the players have what looks like maybe some form of mask hanging from their necks. Can anybody explain how that was used? Is it like a mouthpiece that covers the nose as well?

Like the OU logo on the guy in the middle. Must predate the one from Oklahoma.

Really looking forward to game one as i'm sure is everyone. A new year brings new contributors (and sad losses) and I'm interested to see who emerges. I think this year will be more interesting than most due to the sheer amount of young, talented players. The defense is as full of young talent as I've seen during the Solich area. I think there are several young defensive players who will emerge this year.

As for this this game, if Ohio's physicality does not seal the deal early it will be a nice test for the defense in that Howard's offensive style forces discipline- in a way they are like Ohio-they attack all areas of the defense and the QB can run. With what i saw from Kent Vs Howard last year, Howard's mid-to-long range passing game can be contained against all but the biggest coverage busts.

Finn, looks like those are called nose masks. There are a couple different ones used in the photo. Here is a reference showing some different choices from the era.

Hampton last year was 59-0. The team sounds hungry to demonstrate last year's offense wasn't a fluke. I think there is a good chance we put up over 60 points in this one which incidentally would be a school record.

After the Texas St debacle of 2016, I refuse to get overconfident. Against anybody.
Texas St is a FBS team in the Sun Belt. You can't draw equivalency with playing a MEAC FCS opponent. I don't know why people keep doing that on here. Yes it was a bad loss but there have been others that should never of happened either.

And for what it's worth (which isn't much), Hampton beat Howard last year.

Biggest surprises are at DE, where Ogun-Semore is a starter and McKnight is a #2, with Miller at #3, and Conrad not listed.

First post, just graduated in May. One of the new dorms on South (across from Clip) is named after Carr and there is a plaque there with this information. Super cool and I think OU claims him as the first African American QB in college football

Conrad is out indefinitely with a foot injury.

FWIW, here is Arkley's guess at an end-of-camp two-deep, excluding players who had been held out due to injury. He was pretty close to spot on.

While we only have two more seasons of Michael Farkas the punter (R-JR), the good news is that he can apparently stay on another year as a placeholder, where he's only an RS-So.

I guess that's kind of like the Motley twins, one of whom is a redshirt Freshman, while the other is a Sophomore.

I am so very glad that they are finally using another microphone so we can hear the questions. I think I started suggesting that three or four years ago. Hooray!

So everything I've seen says the game is at 2 PM. I'm listening to the Solich show replay and Russ said on the coaches show that they were on the air at 6 for a kickoff at 7? What's up with that?

Edit: and nevermind, he corrected himself next segment. I should have waited it out.

No. ESPN+ is $4.99/month. ESPN3 is free but my guess is they'll be moving most content over to ESPN+.

And ESPN+ is subject to blackout, which means you get to pay to maybe not watch what you want (a real minus):

Blackouts. Certain live sporting events and other content available through the ESPN+ service subscription may be subject to blackouts. For example, if you are in the home television territory of a team participating in a game, then the game may be blacked-out for viewing or live viewing as part of your ESPN+ service subscription (or other applicable third-party service). Blackouts will be enforced according to the location from which you are accessing the ESPN+ service or the applicable third-party services, and we may use different technologies and methods to verify your geographic location. If you do not enable location access on your device, you will not be able to access the ESPN+ service.

Subscriptions to third-party products and services that you purchase or access through your ESPN+ service subscription will also be subject to specific blackout policies of the applicable sports leagues (e.g., Major League Baseball or the National Hockey League). Such policies may be made available or communicated to you in connection with your purchases of league-specific content. The blackout policies for services available via ESPN+ are available in the FAQs.

Bummer that, according to Arkley's recent column, several 'Cats could be out for week one. Arkley did not say these folks would be out but they did not practice monday. I was really looking forward to De'Vante Mitchell and TJ Robinson's debut as well as Javon Hagan, andrew meyer and Jamal Hudson And DE Conrad is out for a while. Bummer.

Does anyone know if there are any so called 'watch' parties in Cleveland for Saturday's game? I don't want to have to look for ESPN whatever. I'm just wondering if anyone in NE Ohio is clued into where this game will be on TV, or some form of TV as I knew it in my day. Sorry for being 'get off of my lawn' old dude with no appreciation for the internet. I'd just like to watch the game on TV since I can't get back to Athens Saturday.
