You forgot Miami. We're not going anywhere without them.

I was hoping the Ohio talks was a little more serious than what it ended up being. Kind of sounds like Ohio and Toledo were kicking the tires and letting some interest be known. It makes me wonder if the SBC East schools breakaway next round of realignment and will be looking for Ohio and Toledo to join them? Long shot but possible.

You take the SBCE 7 schools and add in any mix of Ohio, Toledo, WKU, and possibly Delaware and you have a pretty decent conference. It sounds outlandish, but a lot of people are speculating that this next round of realignment is going to be an absolute earthquake.
Ohio, Marshall, App State and James Madison together make sense geographically. Unfortunately geography doesn't seem to matter as much as us fans would like it to.

My thoughts are Ohio wants to keep their options open depending on what happens with the MAC the next few years and a few of the eastern Sun Belt schools like the possibility of Ohio joining them based on their football and basketball profile.

Nothing appears to be close to happening but developing a relationship is a good thing so they can be proactive if necessary down the road.

Ohio would be a really good fit for the Sun Belt if they ever expand to 16 teams and break into North/South or East/West divisions.

James Madison, Old Dominion, Marshall and App State would be good competition from a football standpoint. Add another school like WKU, Liberty or Toledo and you could have a nice G5 division for football.
ODU is an 8 hour bus trip from Athens. Traveling to ODU would probably require a flight. Liberty located in Lynchburg, Va. is at least a five hour plus bus trip from Athens. Liberty is relatively new to FBS football, but they are loaded with deep pockets. They hired Jamey Chadwell from Coastal Carolina a few seasons ago on a seven year deal for an average of $4 million per year. The head basketball coach made $1.4 million in 2023. The head baseball coach at Liberty makes over 400 K. Liberty has money to burn!
FYI: Marshall flew to JMU last year for their football game. The game started at 8:00 PM on a Saturday night for TV. In a car, it would normally take 4.5 hours (per Google Maps) to make the drive of nearly 300 mile. Driving over the mountains in a bus would be at least be an extra hour or two plus to make the drive. Since the game would decide the SBC East Championship, Marshall spent the money for a charter plane. FYI: Marshall had always flies charter to play ODU.

FWIW: Marshall went back to charter flights last season for away games for the men's basketball team. Obviously for games nearby like Morehead or Ohio, they bus to those games.

The speculation doesn’t stop. Our name is thrown around for realignment in the comments again.

The premise of the video is silly. Losing Texas State and adding La Tech isn't going to kill the Sun Belt. Animosity from the East schools aside, the conference will be fine. If anything this just adds more juice to rivalries.

If I’ve learned anything about college sports over the past 10 years, where there’s smoke there is fire. I don’t think the Sun Belt will fold, but I also think they will lose more than 1 current member in the next few years at minimum.

I 100% agree. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sun Belt loses like 4 schools to other conferences in the next few years. It also wouldn't surprise me if Ohio is indeed on the SBC's short list of replacement additions should they lose 4 schools.

SBC would have zero appeal at that point.

Exactly. It depends on who they would lose, and if it's who I'm thinking (Marshall, App, JMU) then I would have absolutely zero interest in leaving.

ULM may be leaving. It's president wants a $6-$9 million cut in the athletics budget, which would amount to 20% to 30%. ULM has the smallest budget in DQA/FBS at $31 million. The AD resigned in protest on Monday (rumor has it he could choose quitting or getting fired). The football coach is expected to move up at the end of the season. Still, it's going to be tougher for them to compete. They've had just one winning season since moving up from the other division in 1994.

We all remember how that season ended for them.
