Kurt Mattix will be the Defensive Coordinator on Coach Hauser's staff. He was with Ohio in 2024 as Defensive Ends coach, left with Coach Albin for Charlotte in 2025, he was their Co-DC/DL coach.

Never mind he was the offensive coordinator/ Assistant Head Coach/ Running Backs Coach at Butler but played OL at Ball State from 1999-02 and will be coaching the O line here at OU.

Any news or rumors on that front? I thought coach Allen was a solid coach and had a lot of experience to share with the receiver room

Do you have any idea what you are saying? Tariq is the cornerbacks coach in Charlotte. With his former coach. Why do you and others continue to bash the most successful football coach in the last 55 years in Athens? Albin led Ohio University to unprecedented success, but you and the former AD failed to recognize those accomplishments. Shame on you! And no I’m not related to Coach Albin. I’m a fan who appreciated unprecedented success in football at Ohio Univeristy , unlike you and the former AD. Get back to me in five years when you see that type of success again!

But, you are a fan who is obsessed to the point a man-crush with Albin. You won't admit that he made any mistakes in his bargaining with the AD. You won't assign any blame to him for not waiting until after the MACC victory to start looking at other offers -- a point in time when he could have almost named his price to stay at OHIO. I've agreed with you that Cromer was not a great AD, and that she promoted a hostile work environment, but that doesn't absolve Albin of all responsiblity for the fiasco that was his departure from OHIO.

OCF- no man crush, but you speak highly of Coach Solich. You ask him
why Coach Albin left and how he was treated by the former AD. You know that the former AD treated Albin way differently than other coaches in the department and she didn’t realize that he was her best hire.
Why should have Coach Albin waited until after he won ten games once again for the third consecutive season to get a reasonable contract from the former AD? Albin achieved unprecedented success and the former AD failed to recognize and appreciate those accomplishments. She paid top dollar to the mens hoops coach for annual fifth seed finishes. She secretly rewarded the womens coach for several lousy performances season after season. You and others refuse to admit she treated Albin much differently than other department members. Why should Coach Albin have waited until after game 13 when she had ample time to seal the deal before and after the Ball State game. She dropped the ball because she knew he had other offers at a few schools. If the former AD made that blunder in a power conference, she would have been out the door in a New York minute.

I've never said that Cromer treated Albin well, or with the proper amount of respect. But, you must admit that Tim's timing was horrible. A few more weeks and he would have been the highest paid employee at Ohio University. President Lori Stewart Gonzalez said quite publicly, not realizing that Tim had already signed with UNCC, that we'd match any offer he had from them. I once had a boss who I suspect was very much like Cromer in the way she treated subordinates. I was smart enough to know that I should bide my time. Her bad deeds eventually caught up with her. In Tim's case he didn't have to wait very long because the prez was going to make the decision for Cromer, if need be. As Frank will tell you, he wasn't hired by the AD, but by McDavis. Ohio University has had several cases where presidents have over-ruled ADs some were for the best; others didn't work out at all (e.g., Cleve Bryant). It seems that you can't fit into your mind the possibility that two things can be true at the same time: Julie Cromer was a poor AD who treated Albin badly, and Tim did not make the best of this situation and had very bad timing in his decision to sign with Charlotte.

You keep asking me to talk to Frank about this situation. I know that Frank is a very loyal man. I know Frank thought very highly of Tim. Frank once told me personally that he felt Tim would eventually bring us the elusive MACC. I'm not going to ask Frank about the Albin situation because I know he'll stick up for his guy even if deep down he knows Tim made a horrible blunder. I admire Frank's loyalty. That's one of his strong suits in my book.

Good news. Just what I was hoping for that I mentioned on the "Hauser named head coach" thread that we would get an offense-minded assistant coach to balance out Hauser's proven ability coaching the defense. Conrad was the running backs coach at Miami from 2018-22, which overlaps 4 years when Hauser was there from 2014-2021 so they should know each other well and he knows the MAC so he won't miss a beat.

So now we are very solid on the offense coaching side. We have Scott Isphording as our Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach, Tremayne Scott as our Running Game Coordinator, and Kyle Obly as our Passing Game Coordinator.

And we should also note that although he has not been added to the official Coaching Staff list yet, our new Offensive Line Coach, Colin Johnson has a strong background in offense and actually served as the Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator and Running Backs Coach at Butler before joining OHIO.

This should just about round out a great coaching lineup with longtime Bobcat coaches and new incoming coaches with a lot of experience. Can't wait for the coming season!

With Conard, looks like Cavanaugh moves from RB/ST to just ST. Seems an improvement to have a dedicated ST coach. Still no GM, wonder if we will be back to onfield coach who is also recruiting coordinator. Maybe Cavanaugh or Obly?

Another announcement should be coming. More energy and experience...NFL, college coordinator, staff ties, etc. I'll let them announce when they see fit, but seems like a great pickup.

Nice catch on that detail. And seeing as how our kicking game pretty much fell of a cliff over the past season I would say that we can definitely call it an improvement to have a dedicated Special Teams coach now.

Alvin Floyd is still listed as RB as well so something was messed up on the roster page. I think we still need OL, WR, S coaches. I expect that in the end Cavanaugh, Floyd, and Mattix will all have a position. I don't think we can add another on field coach. It is hard to see who will be what however given these guys past experience. It is a bit worrisome.
