Goard dominates as GW advances.

This is a nice thing to read:

At halftime, Goard was 6-of-9 from the floor with 11 rebounds. Everyone else on the team was of 0-of-16 shooting.

"I knew it was pretty bad,'' Greene said, "but I didn't know it was that bad. In a lot of ways, he's been a dominant guy for us and has carried us at different times. Even when the other guys play well, he helps them play better. I think he is the best player in the state.''

Third ranked GW takes on #1 Wheeling Park in finals tonight. Goard had 14 points and 13 rebounds in semi final.

Goard scores 19 as his team wins AAA State Championship 55-54. He had four points in the last 28 seconds. A dunk to give his team the lead and then two free throws with 14.5 seconds left that proved to be the difference.

Goard scored 4 points in final 28 seconds to help team to first state title in 40 years.

Here was one of the previews for the game.

Forgot this game was on TV locally tonight and only caught last 2 minutes--which were wild.  First of all, I felt really old as the kids playing in the WV State Championship all looked about 12.  Secondly, he clearly looked like the best athlete on the floor.  But once again, you gotta know talent to recruit these WV kids as the competition looks nothing like what he'll face in a few months.  Nice to see him hit two clutch free throws in probably the most pressure packed situation he's been in to this point in his young basketball career.  He also was on the perimeter contesting the last minute shot by WP.

Good news is that the guy has hops, other than that it's wait till next year for me to learn more about his overall game.  Possibly a raw DeVaughn, I hope?

DeVaughn was pretty raw coming in to Ohio.  But if we get a similar career out of him (starting for 2.5 years and improving every year) I will be a happy camper.  I do not recall DeVaughn's numbers coming out of HS but it seems like Goard may be a more complete player coming in.

DeVaughn's numbers out of HS were as follows. these are per game averages
SR year 12 pts, 9 rebs, 3 assists, and almost 2 blks
JR year 11 pts, 7 rebs, and 4 blocks.
These are according to his bio on the athletic site.

Thanks!  I find it interesting that his blocked shot numbers went down. Also, I remember him having a good number of blocks his freshman year considering the limited time he played......he is playing over 5 times the number of minutes from his freshman year but is only averaging twice as many blocks as his freshman year.

DeVaughn was extremely foul-prone early in his career, so I suspect the coaching staff worked with him to stop going for the block all the time and instead play better fundamental defense to stay out of foul trouble.

Tyquane's final stats were 17.2 scoring average, have not been able to find his rebounding stat but I know it's over 10.

Why can't I find a single video of this dude playing hoops out on the web? I mean, no highlights of this game are available?

Perhaps one day West Virginia will get the technology to make this happen.

This is the 3rd of 5 videos of a game for GW.  You can see Goard make some plays early in this video, esp on the fast break.  I havent watched the rest of the game, and this is not Goard-specific, but you can get a taste of the young man's game.

Nice write-up about Tyquane.... Can't wait to see him suit up in the green and white! 6'8" with a 7'+ wingspan is not too shabby. ;) Also, the fact that his team won the the state championship and he was the catalyst for that speaks a lot louder than any gaudy scoring stat ever could. Welcome aboard Tyquane!

At the North/South All-Star game, Goard's South team loses to a hot shooting North squad. Goard was named MVP of the South team and scored 21 pts on 9 of 15 shooting with 5 rebounds.... Also, he won the Slam-Dunk contest....

I saw some highlights of this all-star game and heard some post game comments.  I'm impressed with Goard's attitude.  Based on his comments, it seems that he understands the team concept well.

Interesting that he got 7 of his team's 9 dunks, and also hit a three in the first half.

Players were saying that the defensive effort was better than in many all star games.

Everything I read about him is more and more promising. For him to be an MVP of a state-wide All-Star game is pretty impressive.
