Hunter it is. Welcome aboard!

I could still see us picking up Dibba, depending on what kind of role he wants. From what I've heard, Dibba wasn't the ball dominant guard at CCU. That was Rudi Williams who is also in the portal. Less the case with Blondeau, I think. Horton from Albany would be a tremendous one-year rental.
Interesting note on Dibba. I think he’s going to be the toughest to land. Visiting South Carolina today, supposedly. Jaylin seems like a solid pickup and this staff has a great track record to date with development of PG’s.
Do we really need Dibba? If we have an extra scholly we are set now at the guard
Miles, Hunter, EJ4
Post: Witzniker, DW3, Ezuma, Clayton
Wing: Roderick, AJB

We are seriously lacking in a 6-6, 6-7 or 6-8 wing who is multi-dimensional. We have NO ONE who matches that description currently so we either go super small or super big but no in between.

We've got Hadaway coming in this year as a 6-8 SF.

The only player we’ve been linked to that’s still available and fits this description is Sylla, D2 POY. For what it’s worth, he follows multiple staff + Boals/vice versa.

Dibba is 6'6
But is he a 3 and D wing? Seems to me to be a guy who needs the ball in his hands. We have plenty of those now. Maybe Dibba would be comfortable being a 3 but he seems like a big PG or a big 2 guard.

There are 12 scholarships accounted for. Of those 12, I don't see a single proven D1 scorer... someone who could get 20 in a game as consistently as Sears, Carter, and BVP could. Hunter addresses a certain need: a player ready to be our starting point guard. Maybe someone in the group emerges as a scorer... I think a "medium" sized guy would be ideal, but I'm not looking for three and D if we're still on the hunt for a transfer. We need to focus on someone who can score. I don't know that Dibba is that guy. The Albany guy we are now linked to would be fantastic (14 ppg and also the America East DPOY as a bonus).

Sylla would have been perfect but we didn't make his final 4. He visited St. Bonaventure as his fourth stop and we were none of those. If Boals could pull Sylla out, we would be dangerous. And I do believe Hadaway will be a good one but what are the odds that a 6-foot-8, 180 pound freshman is going to step in and do what a Sylla would do?

At a minimum, I think Hadaway plays a role similar to what Clayton played this year off the bench but looking at the scoring numbers he put up as a Senior, his potential is sky-high. He can score inside and out. Looking at the athleticism he showcases on driving and on dunks, I think his game translates to college very easily. The last recruit I remember with that kind of scoring in HS was BVP.

As of now, my guess for starters:

PG Hunter
SG Brown
SF Roderick
PF Clayton
C DW3

Ezuma looked very promising this year. He will be able to spell Clayton and Ezuma well. I have no clue what to expect from Witzniker. I'd expect at least one of our freshman guards to earn solid minutes in the rotation... We will need Sheldon to spell Hunter for at least a couple minutes a game. Also note-Elmore James has put up some impressive scoring numbers this year.

For last spot: I'd go best available. Agree with Shab, experienced player who can score (hopefully grad transfer) is likely what fits most. As of now the roster is young but extremely talented.

Where are you seeing Sylla’s top 4? There’s nothing on his personal account, only that he’s taken visits to High Point, Bonnie’s, Towson, and UMBC.

Ah, I hadn’t read that. Saw Towson offered. Meechie Johnson just committed to South Carolina. The other day it landed Citadel’s combo guard. Doesn’t seem to be as much PT available for Dibba when he scheduled his visit.

Just scrolling through recent transfer portal entries. Elijah Olaniyi could be the guy. Boals signed and coached him at Stony Brook originally. Averaged 18 ppg during 19-20 season. Transferred to Miami, averaged 10 ppg. Then back to Stony Brook this past season for 8.9 ppg. Not sure what happened, but Boals and Lamar are obviously familiar and the scoring capability exists. 6’5.

OK FJC31, I just looked up his career stats on ESPN.com. He played 3 years at Stony Brook, 1 year at Miami, then back at Stony Brook for the 2021-22 season. And you're saying you saw his name in the portal???? This is not the NCAA basketball that I grew up with.

If we don't get him this year, maybe wait another year or two and have a go at it.

I know it's just your guess, and no offense to any of those guys, but if THAT is our starting 5 come December...be prepared for a season of MAC mediocrity. Barf.

You guys can call me crazy, but I'm still dreaming about a starting 5 with size/length/shooting/defense and (IMO) our 5 best players regardless of positions.

PG - AJ Brown 6'4
SG - Elmore James IV 6'3
SF - Ben Roderick 6'6
PF - Gabe Wiznitzer 6'11
C - Dwight Wilson III 6'8

And with the last scholarship I'd be looking for someone to challenge for the starting SG or SF spot. Somebody 6'4 to 6'8 who can score and shoot the 3.

I agree with your prediction of a season of mediocrity based on one fan's starting five prediction. And then your predicted lineup still includes BRod? OUr team cannot suffer through another season of a "shooter" with a slash line of 34%/22%/63%. . . a "shooter" who adds very little else to the table.

For sure we can't suffer through a similar season from BRod. I'm hopeful that won't happen. But, if I'm Boals I'm looking into alternatives just in case. As the roster sits today, assuming BRod returns to form, I think he's our best option at SF with Hadaway coming in off the bench.

But this is exactly the reason I said, if it were me, I'd be trying to find another wing with length who can shoot the 3 with our last scholly. Call it the BRod insurance plan.

Hmmm. The article below answers some questions but possibly raises even more questions. Sounds like injuries were definitely a factor but maybe more to the story... This could be a good fit considering his history with Boals and scoring ability. I think it's a riskier play but with the current roster this might be a chance worth taking.

You have evidence of Roderick having a horrible season but you have more samples and evidence of good to great years. Did you watch the team around him last year? Mark Sears is a great player who will go down as one of the least "assistive" point guards I can remember at OU. I think Bean drove and kicked more. You look at BVP -- once again, a great player, who was far less of a passer last year and more of a deep 3 and crab dribble guy. And finally, the piece de resistance -- the ultimate ballhog and ballstopper in Jason Carter, who, once again, I am glad came back to OU and I am glad to have seen play, but let's be honest, dude was a black hole last year. With the right guys around him, B-Rod will be fine. All of you who have given up on the dude will be the first ones to say "I knew he'd come around" when he has a bounce back year this year.

OUr team cannot suffer through another season of a "shooter" with a slash line of 34%/22%/63%. . . a "shooter" who adds very little else to the table.
Agreed. I expect B-Rod to have a turnaround season and I expect Miles Brown to take on a much larger role in the offense. Sears, BVP and Carter leaving is a two-way street. Yes we lose a lot of points from last year, but we also open up a lot of shots for the rest of the team. Someone is going to be shooting the ball. Miles Brown averaged over 30ppg his Senior year of high school. He hasn't shown crazy scoring ability at Ohio, but he shot the 3 at a good clip this past year and will now have a big opportunity to have the ball in his hands more.

Yep, he has another year of eligibility per multiple Twitter accounts.

Hmmm. The article below answers some questions but possibly raises even more questions. Sounds like injuries were definitely a factor but maybe more to the story... This could be a good fit considering his history with Boals and scoring ability. I think it's a riskier play but with the current roster this might be a chance worth taking.

A lot to unpack there for sure. If Boals and Lamar didn’t have history with him, I’d likely avoid (he might not have a lot of interest for that reason). If he was brought in, I’d trust that Boals and the rest of the staff/roster would comfortable with his addition.

How do you all feel about some of the D2, D3, and NAIA transfers? I’ve seen some land with P6, others with smaller mid-majors.

I hope that bobcat1998 and the optimist are correct about BRod. And I promise bobcat1998 that I won't claim that "I knew he'd come around" if he has a bounce back year in 2022-23 as long as you don't claim "I knew he shouldn't have been in the starting lineup" if he doesn't.
