5 scholarships available with Smith, Hall, Johnson, Kellogg and Wilkins all graduating.  A freshman PG in this class is a must, IMO.  I would also assume we target a SG.  With 5 spots, we have options in this class.  I would imagine we go after at least 1 JUCO with Setty being the only guy we currently have in the class of 2016.  We could probably use a PG or SG there.

Here is Ted's handy recruiting chart. You can see right now its mainly Ohio guys and other players from the region. I wonder if Coach Christian still has any contacts from the Fort Worth area, or maybe any Juco or D-1 transfers in mind?

I maintain that we do the unconventional and strive to NOT have balance among classes.  Basketball is very much a team sport and experience together pays off especially at the mid-major level.  Having a large group of guys together for 3-4 years with not much notable turnover in their junior and senior seasons sounds appealing to me (like this year...minus the whole new coach thing).  Let Setty be the lone 2016 senior, makes for an exciting team coming back for 2016-17.

1 JUCO - w/some heft inside - and we're dancin' next year or after (speakin' for Treg here..............).

How many years have we been in the "if we just had that one piece we're missin', or that one extra piece that would add A Lot scenario? We have some room to reload And rebuild w/this scholly scenario.

And besides - I bet Treg would look fantastic cutting down some nets............big ole' smile............

Which is a reason why this year's senior class has been most exciting to watch. That can be said true in any sport, but especially basketball. My brother's senior class had eight players on their basketball team and ended up going to an Elite Eight. Mine had 3.5 (one was injured half the year) and didn't even make it out of Sectionals. Not saying that is the only deterrent to a great team, but it certainly helps with chemistry.

We also beat Georgetown with one Senior, KVK. And we made the Sweet 16 with 0 Seniors.

I like unconventional class sizes, but I still wouldn't mind 1 JUCO guard to go along with Setty to give us some talent out there.

One big key will be where Wingfield is playing.  Many of said he can play PG, SG or SF.  If he is truly a guard for us, I don't feel as pressed to get a guard.

I'm calling this the most important recruiting class in Ohio history.  May be exaggerating, but it's very important we continue to bring in the DJ Cooper's and the Reggie Keely's and not the Allen Hester's.  I want guys that know how to win and are ready to represent this university for the next 4 yrs.  I don't mind 1-2 JUCO's in this class, but I have very high expectations for this class.  JC is going to be able to promise a lot of playing time for these recruits.  That's what sold DJ to Ohio.  Have a vision and get r' done JC!

Two observations after a quick glance at the 2014 recruits:

First, there are not a whole lot of names on the list.

Second, those we have offered must be late bloomers and guys with potential because I don't see any with "big time" offers out there.  More of the same, all the MAC schools going after the same guys.

Hope we get the best of what's out there!

It's still quite early. The big schools are still fighting for top commits; when those guys decide, you'll see them move to new targets. I have no doubt we'll be fighting with the big boys.

I wouldn't say "there are a whole lot of names on that list" when you consider we have room for 5 and there are only 10 on the list.  Unless of course we plan on beating out all those offers and getting 50% of everything we want.  I'd say that list could double before we find our 5.

I agree on the importance of this class. I think we can safely say everyone is happy with JC's 1st class at Ohio. This players in this class will be crucial parts of whatever happens here under JC. He is off to a great start, but I think this is the class that makes or breaks him..

I think there is a very important distinction there that Buster makes and is responsible for the turn in the program fortunes..

JG put a great deal of stock in players from programs that taught the culture of winning.

When Tommy came in he had the only State Finals rings in the locker room.

JG immediately brought in guys with similar cultural backgrounds.

Cooper and Kinney were both finalists in Illinois, Horne though he did not work out had State Finals pedigree, Kellogg and Ric each had a ring and McKinley even came from a program of excellence. There is a great deal of expectation in those programs and from day 1 you are competing not only with other programs but within your own program to carry on the traditions. I am not sure Reg got out of sectionals but I saw Heights played a rigorous schedule vs Dublin and appearances at Flying to the Hoop vs big time opponents.

Ivo and TJ were probably the only 2 signed in those 2 classes that were not from strong basketball programs.

Not had time to look through the backgrounds of the signees. I hope a similar culture of winning stays in the locker room. it is truly the difference in how a player developes, his motiviation, his commitment to the team and the success of the program. Easy to get players, hard to get players who bond and play together.

Well. We are off to a nice start with Tariq Owens!

With the departure of Kadeem Green, we may have another scholarship for this class.. More likely, our needs might be different if we bring in a transfer this year.

The more I think about it, the more I agree that coming from a culture of winning is solid.  You can succeed without it.  But it can help a guy and a team conquer at key moments...sort of a 'muscle memory' thing.

With Anrio Adams coming in for Kadeem Green, we still have 5 scholarships for this class. With Tariq Owens committed, we have 4 remaining to give.

As its been mentioned elsewhere, scout.com moved Tariq up to 4 stars and into the Top 100 for 2014. A truly phenomenal start for JC.

It was nice to see the program get some recognition for signing Tariq Owens.. You gotta think we are now on the radars of some of the national recruiting analysts as a program to watch for this recruiting class.. That is very exciting. Looking at Ted's list of guys, we are going head-to-head with some quality programs.
If we can pair Tariq up with a highly regarded point guard and wing in this class, we could be talking about a very well ranked incoming class. I know that those national ranking sites should be taken with a grain of salt, but I think that'd be something cool to see for Ohio. Knowing JC's love for bigs, I would expect we are still targeting a big to play alongside Tariq.

Also worth noting, Anrio is actually just a year ahead of the 2014 class after he redshirts. Considering that, you have 2 wing players ahead of this class in Anrio and Wingfield. I still think we bring in a wing for this class, but I think priority #1 is a good point guard. Whoever the point is would have a year behind Willis/Taylor then take the reigns as a soph... This is actually the ideal way to handle it, IMO, but its a little troublesome that if something happens to that player we are all of a sudden without a PG for that year.

Whelp, 6 months later and the picture is much more clear.

Currently, 2 freshman and 2 JUCOs with 1 spot remaining in this class.

With how this season has gone so far, I am happy JC targeted two JUCO wing players. With as good as Maurice is, I would hate to go into next year too heavy on underclassmen. With Kellogg, Wilkins, Hall and Rico all graduating, we have a lot of wing time open for grabs next year. Hopefully either Nehemias Morillo or Rodell Wigginton can be an impact player for us immediately. Both are putting up some pretty good numbers at the JUCO level. JC recruited a number of JUCO's at Kent who came in and were very good for him.

I think our last spot has to be a PG, unless the staff has Wingfield or Crute tabbed for PG. Anyone know about Crute? I have seen highlight videos of him playing PG and verbalcommit's has him slotted as a point but a number of other sites have him as a SG.

Excited about this class.

I'm a little too young to really remember the Christian years at Kent and didn't follow him at TCU, but I've heard he likes to have larger lineups?

"Bigfoots" refers to past committed recruits (BIGMANZ types) - who turned into mysterious and eventually even apparently mythical beings - goes back year or so.............

I think having an established post player as dominant as Ndour is a perfect personnel situation for Tariq coming in.

Tariq is really skinny and needs to bulk up and refine his low post moves before he really makes an impact in the halfcourt offense. With NDour returning we already have a skilled post player who is going to draw the focus of opposing defenses in the post opening things up for the rest of the team.
That is really nice because I think complimenting that role you can have a defensive specialist who can focus his offensive game more on transition baskets and on the boards. In that area, I think Tariq is capable of making a MAJOR impact from day 1. He is a very good low post defender and he is athletic enough to really kill opponents in transition not to mention on the boards. And early playing time will help him develop his halfcourt game while he grows into his body. I have heard Tariq has a smooth jumper that just needs more time to develop. Also have heard he is a gym rat throwing up tons of extra shots every day.

I think they could compliment each other really nicely.

All of JC's post recruits so far seem to have a knack for blocking shots.

I knew about the bigfoots thing, I was just thinking he may want Winfield or Crute at pg even though they're both tall for a point in the MAC
