its never a bad idea for a team with only 4 jrs and srs to take a 5th yr senior that can play immediately when there are multiple scholarships unfilled in May.

May not happen.  His twitter account reflects that Maryland offered today.   Maryland just lost point Seth Allen who is transferring.

I was really hoping we'd get him. I feel we need a  one year stop-gap before Simmons comes on board. I'm surprised how many schools wanted a 1 year point guard, but that's how it goes.  Bean is just not a point IMO. He looks more comfortable playing  the wing.  And he can shoot it.  I don't fault JC splitting him with Stevie last year, that was our situation, but I do fault him for recruiting him as a point guard rather than an off guard.  We can't  get a frosh this late  who could contribute next year.  I'm hoping there' a JC kid out there.

Bean was a 4 star PG out of high school, rated the 18th best PG in the country by Rivals, and was a starting PG for a BigXII school for two years before coming to Ohio, why would JC recruit him as anything other than a PG?

I certainly understand your point, although I would think seeing enough film might have raised some concern about some aspects of his point guard play.  Seems Saul knows he has an immediate need.  Bean would be a nice addition on the wing.

Wingfield committed a couple of months after Bean, DJ was a 3 star, 6'5" SG and the better option to back up Kellogg at the 2G. JC got to watch Bean in practice for a full year so I'm sure he had a good idea what his strengths and weaknesses were. Not a coincidence that Stevie was the starting PG, not Bean.

With Kellogg and Wingfield both gone Willis will have to step up and play some 2G until Crute and/or Laster get up to speed. Luckily Bean is well suited to play the 2 and give Stevie a rest at PG when needed.

I don't disagree with you that Bean will be better off at SG, but I can't agree with you wanting to fault JC for not making him a 2 right away, given the circumstances.

In regards to Shamburger, a 5th yr Sr PG that can play immediately would have been a good add but its not a huge loss. Looks like we're down to 3 possible additions with 3 scholarships left to give- Jordan Perez, Ryan Taylor and Ric Johnson (if eligible). My guess is we add either Perez or Taylor and not both, regardless of what happens with Ric. That will give us 3 true freshmen next year and 5 scholarships to give in 2015. Hoping 2015 will be SP's Cooper/Keeley type class.
