Here's a video with Jalen and his running mate Ditalion Battle...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpXdaCDVWUQ

The things he talked about that stood out to me are that he stressed getting his teammates involved. He says he also models his game after Chris Paul and Lob City. As of late, Ohio is really recruiting longer, more athletic players; it should be something he can build here.
He also mentioned he wants to do something with regards to sports after his playing career is over. Considering all the different, well regarded majors Ohio has in the sports realm, he should be able to find something that fits him well.
Lastly, the halftime pep talk the coaches gave was, um, interesting...

I know that most coaches talk like the coaches do in that halftime speech but really? That's some messed up stuff. That's not the way to teach young people. And it's just like a child who hears or sees things from their parents...that child will emulate their parents later in life. These players are going to emulate their coaches and turn into the wrong kind of player with that language. I'm not naive to think it doesn't happen but man, know there's a camera in the room.

I think he could do with a few less f-bombs, but some kids respond to that in your face approach. Saul appears like he could be a screamer too, but I think he might choose a different choice of words to motivate his guys.

I have been a sportswriter for 20 years and a teacher for the last eight as well as a coach during that time. I have been around every kind of coach, from the F-Bomber to the religious guy to the soft spoken players coach to the guy who motivates through a combination of all those things. And obviously it works..I guess I was shocked because as a public school these two coaches had no worries that there was a camera filming them. Lots of things happen behind closed doors and are swept away. It just seemed like they were above the coverage and put a middle finger up to anyone who thought that the leaders of young men should conduct themselves with higher standards.

Yeah, he and Maurice, (Who is visiting next week I believe) are both on my basketball recruiting wish list. A PG and center would fill out this class nicely...

According to Corey Albertson (@Corey_Albertson on twitter) Jalen will make his college decision on October 2nd. Ohio and Kent are the front runners.

Looking at their roster and recruiting, I would think Kent could offer him more assurances of greater playing time... Although, I would think between the point and shooting guard there should be lots of minutes to grab here at Ohio as well.

Also, per http://tripledoubleprospects.com/ Rodney Culver, Pickerington Central (2015) was also on a visit this weekend.

Here's an interview with him: http://www.landgrantholyland.com/2014/4/30/5666934/across-the-hoop-scene-update-with-2015-sg-rodney-culver.

He's a long, athletic wing who compares himself to, get this, Caris Lavert.
Rated the 4th best scoring guard in Ohio by Triple Double Prospects.

Apologies as this may need it's own thread but, not sure if that is set up by the admins or...

I've seen Culver several times against Newark and Dartis. He's a stud.

Our continued recruitment of a "pure" point guard tells me that we are planning to play Jordan Dartis primarily at the 2. Let's assume that Avery commits to Ohio and no one leaves. For three years, our depth at positions 1-3 would be insane.

Avery and Simmons at the point
Dartis, Laster, Taylor, and Harley at the wings.

With Stevie and Bean graduating, I think a freshman PG has to like the situation he comes into. Yeah, you have Simmons in the class ahead but there will clearly be PG minutes to play.

Dartis was recruited as a two-guard, per his high school coach Jeff Quackenbush. However, he'll play primarily point guard as a high school senior. Quackenbush says his strength has evolved into a shooter and he still might grow to 6-4. Additionally, he said he has become close friends with our recruit from Northland and expects them to be roommates in college.

Didn't Holt commit to Kent only after DJ Cooper announced for Ohio?
