Here's another one.
three-star power forward Ray Kasongo has been denied admission by University of Oregon.

He is going power conference very quickly, not a mid-major talent. He already has big visits lined up.

I would like to know the big visits he has lined up. This late in game SP needs to at least pick up the phone. A get like Kasongo could be a huge solution to depth problems this season and a corner stone for the future. Anybody know the distance Athens is from this guy's hometown? We have done fairly well with Kentucky products recently.

Cal and Memphis are two right off the top of my head that I have seen. Florida also has been mentioned.

It would be interesting to see the depth charts at those programs at his position. We are thin at the 4/5 can offer immediate playing time and could be the closest to his home town. I think picking up the phone would be a good idea. Since we have TWO open scholarships, why not? The worst thing the kid can say is "No." If the kid can't get into Oregon, then he sure as hell can't get into Cal. Memphis on the other hand is a different story. Isn't Florida extremely deep inside?

I don't disagree that we should kick the tires.  I am just letting you know who else is kicking the tires. He is not the only Oregon recruit not admitted. Seems there is a pissing contest going on between athletica and academic at the school.

There can only be a handful of schools with open scholarships this late. The real pipe dream might be the 5 star pg that might not be admitted to Phil Knight U. It is July 31st the complete dead time for college athletics. I've been kicking around some possible line ups with this Kasongo kid. I am unclear where he is from, is it Lick Creek, KY (247sports.com) or is he from Toronto (verbalcommits.com). As always if wishes were horses beggars would ride. I would really like the horse this time.

I am sorry I read JSF and Opti and answered on the 2015 as that is in full swing right now....

2014 is picked over but you can go here and jump to page 22 and work your way forward if you want to see what is out there. There are a few uncommitted 14's playing in select tourneys that allow them to jump in the July open eval period.

We are still shaking trees.....just looking at profiles

I would think that there could be a JUCO player out there who could step in and fill a two-gaurd shooter role, or 4/5 player role that could be a defender/rebounder in the MAC.  I'm not talking about a guy who is gonna be a starter, but more of a role player who could be more physically prepared than a freshman to get a couple solid years from.

I guess Kasongo was a pipe dream. Hard to imagine Kansas still having an open scholarship

With six hundred plus transfers and more players declaring early for the draft, many schools in power conferences have open scholarships this late.  I believe Duke is only at 11 for next year and one of those is for a transfer big.

Kasongo is still unsigned but can't get admission to anywhere. I would love to have a guy with his ability in Ohio green and white. I just don't think I would want to compromise our academic integrity. Interesting to see where this kid ends up.

Yep

OUr academic standards are what they are. We still see kids being looked at by Kron, Kents and BUGS that Ohio coaches know they can't get admitted. I like that there are standards that are not compromised. It means everyone who holds an OHIO diploma is on a certain level and the degree is not cheapened by bending the rules for special interests.
