sorry, hard to get excited about someone who continually transfers (2 high schools, 3 colleges now) and comes from perhaps one of the 5 worst D-1 programs...seems to me he'll add practice depth and little else. 5 serviceable minutes a game would be a pleasant surprise.
hold on, let's put these transfers into context. Chandler Thomas is not the next Rio Adams. He transferred his junior year of high school to a prep school, not uncommon. He was an honor roll student, academics weren't an issue. I remember a kid named DJ Cooper that transferred high schools his senior year and he turned out alright.
Chandler left UMBC after his freshman season, shortly before the head coach resigned amid rumors that he had become too abrasive with his players and had lost buy in. Several players had transferred in recent years as a result, including Chauncey Gilliam who ended up at Akron. These sorts of things happen, can't blame him for wanting to find a more positive environment. He ended up at Grambling, not a great basketball school, but there are reasons beyond athletics for a young man to chose an HBCU as a place to get an education.
And its not fair to say that he is transferring to Ohio, he graduated from Grambling, something he should be commended for, and chose to further his education at a respected university with a higher national profile, something else he should also be commended for.
I have low expectations for Chandler on the court but I think its completely unfair to mischaracterize his actions off the court. Who knows, he might be our next Travis Wilkins, at the very least he'll likely be another Tunji or McKinley. Either way he'll add value to the team.
