Was that youtube video shot in 1990? Are we recruiting a 40 year old? Looks like the kid can shoot.

Will be interesting to see what other offers this kid gets. I have to imagine some other MAC schools besides Ohio and NIU will go in there. Always nice to steal someone away from Bradley too. He looks good on tape. Deceptively quick, good length, great shooting form and good court vision finding open guys when doubled.

Yep, saw the commitment on his Twitter feed and verbal commits. Had offers from Bradley, American, sdsu, ndsu, siu-edwardsville, umkc, bucknell, Dartmouth, and northern Illinois.

This one came out of the blue. Didn't even know he was coming in for a visit.

We're certainly the best program to offer him.

With Dartis also on board, I'm curious to see if Saul uses Gavin as more of a combo SG/SF or if Dartis will be more a PG...not that it really matters...

I'm excited for basketball season!!

Welcome Gavin!!

Impressed with the youtube video. Can also take the rock to the hoop. Beautiful form on his shot.

I like some of the other schools who offered. Gavin must really get it done in the classroom to get offers from Dartmouth, Bucknell, etc.

Welcome aboard!

Watched his video yesterday and liked what I saw... Nice looking shooter. Hope he is able to translate some of those nice dribble drive/pivot moves to the next level.
Welcome aboard Gavin!

that ol Athens charms works again. from an online article..

When asked what he liked about Ohio University Block said "I love everything about Ohio from the basketball part, all the way to the education purposes!" Aspects of the schools that really stuck out to him were the sports management program and the family atmosphere.

Block said he chose to commit now because everything about Ohio University "felt right." Also stating that he and his family felt it was a great fit and that he "could not pass it up."

Yahoo lists him as a 6'6 SF. Pretty impressive shooter from the video too.

Not that it matters, but seeing that young Mr. Block is from Illinois, I wonder if he was on Groce's radar?

Reminds me of a bit more athletic pride of White Bear Lake, Minnesota Jeff Halbert.

You really think we are a better program than Bucknell? I'd say the two programs are roughly equivalent.

SaulBall gonna take Ohio back to NCAA tourney quick! Just a short video and interview but Gavin looks to have many of same skills Steve Eskercamp and Tommy Freeman two of my favorite Bobcats.

This kid is good. I am already loving watching Saul piece together this program. He didn't come in with an empty cupboard, and he is coming out of the gate firing. At NDSU, his teams shot well and scored big. When you look at the shooters we have signed or gotten verbals from already, it is easy to envision the Bobcats putting up BIG points offensively. This'll be fun to watch. The Convo is going to be rocking.

I am a bit surprised we signed another SG. As mentioned above, I thought Dartis was going to be a SG and we might sign another big and a PG. With this signing, we have one left. With Bean and Stevie graduating, we only have Simmons at PG next year. That said, maybe Saul feels comfortable with Simmons primarily running point and Dartis providing minutes as needed. At this point, I would kinda prefer our last recruit to be a big, just because I worry about our depth if Wadly doesn't develop.

In the audio I posted on the main BB board, Saul said we could see 9 recruits signed/verballed before the early signing period ends... That means he thinks it is likely our last spot is filled here before year end.

SDSU is a very good program too (although I agree, Ohio is the best!)

I was thinking the same thing. I have no reason not to assume we are still recruiting Nick Rogers and Isaiah Maurice, but at the same time, I want to assume Saul has a preference and a vision. Remember 2010-11, we basically had 1.5 point guards with Kellogg backing up Cooper. It can work, but I would prefer a pure point guard with the next scholarship.

I was thinking Mike Bramos, but the Esterkamp comparison is good too.
