Per Arkley and other sources. We landed Anthony Allen a 7 footer for the class of 2013.

Can't find anything about him on Rivals or ESPN, but here is his bare Southern Idaho bio. He will play ball there this winter supposedly.

So he's going JUCO for two years? And will join the same graduating class as Goard and Taylor?

He gets around. A quick check on the internet has him as a native of Philly, playing early high school in Idaho, then more recently in Bridgeport, Ct., where they play some serious hoops. Excerpts from a state quarter-final tourney game last winter:

Top Performers
Staples: Gabe Seidman (29 points, 2 steals); Luke Yeager (18 points).
Bassick: Anthony Allen (25 points, 7 blocks, 4 rebounds); Demetrius Thomas (11 points, 2 steals, 2 rebounds).
FAIRFIELD – Anthony Allen was big for Bassick Saturday evening.
Both literally and figuratively.
The senior center, who is listed at 7-feet tall but is actually closer to 6-9, had a game to remember with 25 points, seven blocked shots and four rebounds as fourth-seeded Bassick used its superior size and athleticism in an 83-70 victory over fifth-seeded Staples in the FCIAC boys quarterfinals at Ludlowe High School.
Not only were the points a career-high for Allen, so were his seven dunks.
There was no stopping Allen on this day.
“We played hard but they outmatched us and outsized us if that’s a word,” said Staples senior GabeSeidman, who finished with a game-high 29 points and was also the tallest player on the court for his team along with the 6-3 Mike Argosh. “(Allen) was just a monster down there. We played our game offensively, but theirs was just better than ours.”

At the risk of highjacking this thread, who is the "major big man recruit" for Kent? Story link is on the BA homepage but is for subscribers only.

My thoughts exactly...Seems weird.  We're sure this isn't a 2012 addition?

I'm completely guessing here and hate to speculate but my guess is he did not qualify out of HS (that's not the only reason kids go to JUCO but the most common).  I believe it takes two years at a JUCO to gain whatever credit required to be eligible.  We've had players red shirt a year at JUCO and keep that eligibility in football, I wonder if that's an option here?  Either way I still don't think he can leave after only 1 year there so it's 2013 no matter what.

Very little information on this guy on the web.  Must be a real diamond in the rough but if this staff is taking him this early they must be confident he will contribute, which is all I need to know.

Welcome Anthony!

Guy looks like a beast! I really liked the open court play where he dribbled from outside the 3pt line and slammed it home. Looks like he has some ball handling skills.  However, I am tempering my enthusiasm until he actually suits up for the green and white.... ;)

Kid has pretty nice game. He played some great defense with the blocked shots. Looks like a good get to replace Keely after 2012. We lose Cooper, Keely and Baltic. Gotta hit home runs with that class as those will be big shoes to fill.

According to The Post, he was an academic non-qualifier as you suggest.

Two years and question marks about grades. I figure this guy would be playing in the Big East if he had the grades?  This kid could be the difference between just being ok in the MAC vs being a team that is legit top 40 and a threat to be a deep run in the tournament. Maybee this kid makes the grades and Ohio gets a lottery pick caliber player.   If he were just a dime a dozen MAC big man we wouldn't be waiting 2 years for him and hoping for grades to come in.  Glad he gets the chance to play the next two years instead of rotting on the bench at Ohio. In two years he could be our starting center really reward Ohio for taking a chance on him.

Through nine games, Allen has yet to see the floor at Southern Idaho. Anyone know the issue? Injury? Judging from the team picture, he looks every bit of 7 feet tall as he's standing next to a guy listed at 6'11 and another listed at 6'9''.

I think the report was he would red shirt this year at JUCO to preserve another year of eligibility once he gets here.

Checked the season stats for CSI and he is not listed at all....does that mean he is using a redshirt and we would get him for 3 years?
