He gets around. A quick check on the internet has him as a native of Philly, playing early high school in Idaho, then more recently in Bridgeport, Ct., where they play some serious hoops. Excerpts from a state quarter-final tourney game last winter:
Top Performers
Staples: Gabe Seidman (29 points, 2 steals); Luke Yeager (18 points).
Bassick: Anthony Allen (25 points, 7 blocks, 4 rebounds); Demetrius Thomas (11 points, 2 steals, 2 rebounds).
FAIRFIELD – Anthony Allen was big for Bassick Saturday evening.
Both literally and figuratively.
The senior center, who is listed at 7-feet tall but is actually closer to 6-9, had a game to remember with 25 points, seven blocked shots and four rebounds as fourth-seeded Bassick used its superior size and athleticism in an 83-70 victory over fifth-seeded Staples in the FCIAC boys quarterfinals at Ludlowe High School.
Not only were the points a career-high for Allen, so were his seven dunks.
There was no stopping Allen on this day.
“We played hard but they outmatched us and outsized us if that’s a word,” said Staples senior GabeSeidman, who finished with a game-high 29 points and was also the tallest player on the court for his team along with the 6-3 Mike Argosh. “(Allen) was just a monster down there. We played our game offensively, but theirs was just better than ours.”
