I am giddy. This kid is basically Mike Laster with better handles and a bit more offensive confidence. I think that with Gavin stepping in for Treg we now have a bench that will feature Culver, DT, Harley, Gollon, Dozier, Wad and Carter. I don't think those are WOW factor kinds of kids but I think they will be very serviceable. I was waiting to get a 6-5 guy with length, handles and with an extra year out of high school he has maturity. Welcome Rodney!

Our defense just went up a notch.... Welcome Rodney!

Agreed. Similar to Carter, I think that Culver's biggest contribution next year might be on the defensive end.

I'm all for going best player available for a final scholarship, and he looks like the kind of athlete and potential shutdown defender we lacked. Wonder if this gives Gollon a redshirt opportunity now.

I don't think Ohio can afford that luxury like they could with Dozier last season. Dozier was playing behind a bunch of guys so it was worth it because he might not see the floor much. But Gollon needs to get up to speed ASAP so he can spell Jaaron some minutes and come in and run point if Jaaron/Jordy are in foul trouble.

Plus, all indications are that Ohio is going to sign a PG in 2017. So basically if you redshirt Gollon, you've almost got a wasted scholarship for a year and then possibly 4 PGs next year if two newbies sign. If Gollon gets up to speed this summer, you won't need that.

Getting Culver is a major upgrade on the defensive end. Now at least Saul can sub offense/defense in late game situations with a combo of Culver and Laster to D up some guards. Stop dribble penetration, keep Tony and KK out of foul trouble, rinse and repeat.

Ohio fends off Bradley for an athletic, defensive guard. I've heard this story before.

Rodney Culver choosing Ohio over offers from the likes of the A10s St Louis and the Valley's Bradley is great. Looks like he also had some other offers from similar schools like St Bonaventure. For those complaining that we have been mainly recruiting against low majors, this should demonstrate we are headed in the right direction.

This signing continues to solidify Ohio's Central Ohio pipeline. He values defense. He says all the right things. What's not to like?

He took an unofficial visit to Florida, so the Gators were showing interest. This also helps us in the Sterling Manley sweepstakes.

Very nice pick up. 3-Star who talks about playing defense. Me likely.

Congrats to Mr. Culver and to the coaching staff who landed him.

After a week away, I logged on to see this. THIS is the type of player that was needed with the last scholly. As you said Jeff, values defense, had Ohio on his list from the start, from Central Ohio...all great things. I'm ready for fall hoops to start.

Culver & Carter will bring the defense for sure. Welcome to Rodney. Love seeing the local talent when it fits.

But can he shoot? -Sincerely, the guy who is obsessed with shooting ability.

Here are several highlight videos. The first two are the kinds of videos I like to watch because they are game highlights and not personal highlight reels. You get a better feel for his overall game. He passes. Ibi Watson does not.

The first three are from junior year and the last two are from sophomore year. Interesting how much his jump shot form changed from one year to the next. Much better form as a junior.

Watching these videos, you know who he kind of reminds me of? Nick Harney from Zippy. If he's that effective in getting in passing lanes, Ohio has scored a nice recruit.
