Turn it however you like, but the question is silly! If the kid is being courted right now it's obvious he can play, especially when we are not talking about a 6'9" project, but rather a 6' guard. The kid is athletic and travels the country on a competitive AAU team. Of course he can play.

Essentially you are asking if Saul is recuriting a kid who can play? That is silly.

Don't take his question so literal, anyone else who read that knows he is just looking to hear someone's take on him. Yes he can play but it is possible someone on the board might say he is solid but I don't see him being a MAC caliber talent. I am guessing you could offer lots of first-hand knowledge and insight on this player, but if not then just sit back and wait like the rest of us.

You know Andrew that's actually exactly what I meant. I figured after starting at point guard for Athens High School since his freshman year he was able to dribble, pass, catch and shoot. I also saw where he was being looked at by Dayton and I knew Saul had seen him play. You hit the nail on the head, I was wondering if he was MAC caliber, could he play as a freshman ? .. Is he a better 2 guard ? ..

I'm sorry to be so vague bobcat attackers, I knew Griffin was capable of playing basketball.

Sorry to ask such a dumb, dumb question BillyTheCat !!

Please continue with your humor however Billy, I can't hardly get enough of it !! .. BANG !!

Based on previous responses, Billy was not being humorous, but insulted that you would question the aptitude of a young man from Athens. Unfortunately he was unable to decipher the difference between "questioning/doubting" (his interpretation) and "inquiring" (your intent) of the young man's skills.

So what we know -- he has started since 9th grade - does not, unto itself make him college/MAC level - but a good sign. He plays on an AAU team - excellent to hear - that travels the country...which is what AAU teams do. We and others are looking...kicking the tires. Excellent. Means he has skills because coaches don't have time to waste.

So now, if anyone in the area has seen him play, can you give a bit of a run down. What are his strengths? Weaknesses. At 6 foot he must have some quickness. How quick? Who does he remind you of? Whose game comes to mind? Why? How is his shot? Is he a pure point or can he shoot? what is his range? How is he from 3? How is his D? How wide is he? What is his build? Is he built like our favorite point guard from Chicago or more like Eric Hilton (dating myself). Hell, is he a righty or lefty?

Any insight provided is appreciated.

No, I don't care where the young man attends school, my point is at this stage of the game he's getting some decent looks, that alone should speak to wether or not a kid can play. Some on here doubted the Watson kid and our interest in his abilities, he's going to Michigan. Where they play High School ball is irrevelant, there is little evaluation that takes place on the high school courts anyway. My sole point is, I trust this staff and as of yet they have not disappointed on their talent evaluations. We are not talking Coach Hunter and the Twins or Asa Jewitt here.

40 tonight, according to twitter, and the Internet says his strength is ball handling and quickness. That is according to Google. Haven't seen him play since he was a freshman, but again, I'll trust Saul. If at this stage they feel he's worthy to spend time on great! Of not, then it does not fit the Ohio need.

Well, he's got hops too. Throws down easily and he's no more than 6'. Athletic, obviously. FWIW Messenger said he had 40 last night and that that total is believed to be equal to the AHS record (Roger Bentley in late 60s). Personally I'm glad to see Zacciah Saltzman suiting up again for the 'Dogs, Lutz needs some help.

It's just that it seemed like you took personal offense to this particular player's talent being questioned, then you reaffirmed it when you brought up fellow former Athens player Ibi Watson out of the blue. But regardless, thanks for the research on Twitter & Google.

Quit trolling! You obviously won't be happy with anyone's answer. Buy Monroe's Bobcat Black Seats, stay an extra day and catch an AHS game and give Saul your opinion, I'm sure it would be appreciated.

In Friday nights(12/11) game, against Meigs, Griffins line was 33pts, 10 boards, 3 assts, 3 steals and a block. In Saturdays game at the Big E Classic vs Chesapeake he scored 38pts, had 14 boards, 7 assts, 3 steals and was named player of the game. Thru 4 games this season he is averaging 33.3pts/game. If you have a chance to catch an Athens game and see Griffin play I would highly recommend it. Might be one of the few times you see a 6' PG jumping center and winning the tip.
