I wish I had given nutrition more attention when I was still playing sports competitively as opposed to now where I just do it because I enjoy it and am trying to stay in good health.

What amazes me is that I still struggle to meet nutritional requirements and I am working out 1/10th of what I used to. I cannot imagine how huge nutritional requirements are for D-1 athletes.

When this subject comes up, the first thing that comes to mind is the stories of Michael Phelps training diet.

Crazy. I absolutely believe it too...

I know pro tennis is all over the nutrition thing now, but other sports are still behind.
COnsidering the kids I see that are in tennis and the kids who are hoopin I am sure you have a better chance of getting the tennis guys to eat smartly than to get ballers to put down their ribs, fish, fries and Mickey D's

Jordy scored 25 points, including 12-13 from the FT line and Newark advanced in the tournament with a win over Westerville Central. They await the winner of Pataskala Licking Heights/Zanesville matchup tonight.

looks like it was pretty close through the first 3. Zanesville played them pretty tough. Tourney gets harder from here. Good luck the rest of the way. Only one left playing.

Zanesville and Newark are usually going to play close games, both teams are extremely well coached.

Newark advances to regionals with 51-41 win over Tri-Valley.

Dartis and Newark as a team has not shot the ball well in winning 4 tournaments games. I believe Dartis finished with around a dozen tonight. Wouldn't be surprised if Coach Quackenbush reiterates after tonight's win how it doesn't matter how you play this time of the year as long as you win and move on. Teams that try to win pretty in March, he's been saying the past couple of weeks, end up losing so winning ugly this time of the year is OK.

Newark plays Wednesday night in the barn, the state fairground's coliseum. Not sure, but I believe v. Westerville South, a team Newark lost to earlier this year. Newark's girls team, btw, will be playing in the program's first state final four next weekend.

Wildcats win.

Unfortunately, not Dartis and his Newark Wildcats, but the Westerville South Wildcats. Just too big, the Wesson brothers going 6-6, 6-8.

Newark shot poorly in winning first four tourney games. Started off cold tonight, getting down 10-0. Played better down the stretch with Dartis scoring 22 points, most in the second half.

South will play in regional final v. winner of tomorrow night's game between Northland and Dublin Jerome. Northland beat Gahanna last Saturday despite being down double digits with about 2 minutes left.

Dartis finishes as all-time leading scorer in a program that has more all-time wins, over 1500, than every team in Ohio except one.

Photo that accompanies Advocate article demonstrates what Newark went up against earlier tonight, if not most of the season.

Looking forward to having #35 wear the green and white next season. As Borna often says, recruiting kids who have a tradition of success in their high school programs add a lot to the locker room and practice floor.

Westerville South is the real deal, and, I'm happy for Coach Calo and his team. He is an outstanding teacher in the classroom and with his basketball teams. They always play hard - talented or not, win or lose. The OCC Cardinal is very good and will be again next year. South loses one starter to graduation and nobody else in the rotation. Same for Dublin Jerome who is playing in the other regional semi. Hilliard Bradley, which had 20 wins, loses one starter.

Agree on Jordan Dartis. He has the internal makeup to be solid leader. And his skills are excellent.

Jordan would have been our starting point guard this year as a high school senior. Nice size, nice handles, leader...it will be hard to keep him off the court this year from the jump.

Do we know what position Saul has him slated to play? He is listed more as a shooting guard. Is Jordan the long term answer to PG?

I think in Saul's system, the point guard as a single mega-athletic guy who totally runs the show and is your main distributor is not really the key. I think it's much more important that everybody is moving the ball like a hot potato and working the system.

Newark had a returning starting point guard entering his senior season when Jordan took his starting position in game one of his freshman season. Christian Keller, a former sixth-grade student of mine, moved over to the two position and Jordie not only started every game at point guard as a frosh but played more minutes than any other varsity player that season. Keller was/is a good enough point guard to start the past two seasons at the position at Muskingum College.

Having said that, Coach Quackenbush has told me that Saul has Jordie pegged in as a two guard in college. His outside shot has greatly improved the past two seasons. Also has the ball-handling skills and finishing touches around the basket to attack the rim.

I listened to Newark's game last weekend v. Tri-Valley on a Zanesville radio station with a former D-I ballplayer (can't think of his name) doing play-by-play. He was pretty critical of Dartis' game and saying for him to get playing time at the D-I level he will have to improve his mid-range jumper (I strongly disagree) and using his left hand around the rim (I agree).

Pretty impressive list of who he beat out for the honor. Towns and Ward are both top 100 players in the country in the class of 2016, and Iverson is committed to Wisconsin for next year.
