Pretty much zero info out there on this kid.

Ohio University has offered Lepear Toles 2016- Canton Timken, per source close to the program.

I'll see what I can find out when I head back to NE Ohio for the holidays. Timken isn't usually known for putting many guys out there, but I haven't seen or heard much from the program lately so I could be wrong.

Looks like he's got some pretty good court vision and savvy for an 8th grader. Very raw though.

Last I saw, Timken was leading their conference.

Also listed here as one of the Top Freshman in Ohio.  Our commit DJ Wingfield is listed here as a Top Senior.

Here is an article on him from late January. Mentions us.. Sounds like we found him on the AAU circuit.

Hit a game-winner in the district championship
http://www.ohio.com/sports/high-school/high-school-basket...

[quote]After the 3-pointer and a timeout, freshman guard Lepear Toles came up with an even bigger shot for the Trojans (16-9), answering with a pull-up jumper off the dribble with 30 seconds remaining that wound up being the game-winner.

“I just wanted to knock it down,” Toles said. “I tried to stay calm, make a move and get to the elbow to knock it down. That’s the shot I practice all the time.”

Toles, the only freshman on the roster, has been huge in the clutch for the Trojans in the tournament.

[/OUTER_QUOTE]

Ended up losing in the next game to undefeated top-seeded state power Columbus Northland.  They spoke pretty highly of Toles, and he made some encouraging remarks for a freshman playing in a big game.

I am very glad we are in on this kid early. It is a good sign that Christian is going to stick around AND this kid also sounds like he could develop into a very special player.  Hopefully he ends up in the green and white.

A lot more info out there on Toles' compared to a year ago...

Timken is having a very good year. He is definitely a big reason why... Really nice shot. Deadly from 3/midrange and he is pretty athletic and capable of scoring off the drive. I think he is averaging close to 20 ppg, and again he is only a 10th grader at this point!

Now listed at 6-4, couldn't find any other teams interested/offered but I'd be surprised if we are alone.

cantonrep player of the week last week...

Timken really missed Toles in the playoffs.

Here is his VC page.

We offered under Christian so I am not sure if he has any relationship with Saul Phillips, but it is worth noting Toles is having another nice season.

He is a Junior now and is now listed at 6-5. He is averaging somewhere around 20 a game along with a couple steals, rebounds and assists. Timken is very good. Gave national power Huntington Prep a game over the holidays. Timken should be a threat to beat anyone in Ohio this year and next with Toles and co.

Still can't find any other offers for this kid, but they are definitely going to start coming this summer.

Maybe he'll end up in Athens after all. Am I the only one who believes that there's a decent change we'll have a scholly open up when the season ends? There are a couple players that I could envision choosing to leave for different situations.

Toles is class of 2016, but agree atleast one more opening will come available.

Right 2015 is full unless someone leaves the program.

2016 (which is what Toles is) we currently have two open spots. I would imagine we look for a point guard and a big in next year's class as it stands now. That would change if someone leaves the program and we add another recruit to this year's class...
Toles is probably an off-guard or wing although maybe he could play as a tall point. Toles actually seems like he could fit into Phillips system really well. Tall and skilled shooter with a good all-around game.

I have seen this kid in action. He is extremely solid and while he's still got some raw ability and is wiry, he will be a great find for someone. I hope it's us.

The City of Canton is looking at closing Timken and sending students to McKinley High School. I don't believe it is final, but it could go into effect next school year. There were rumors Toles might transfer prior to this season up to SVSM to increase his exposure. It'll be interesting to watch this play out. Sticky situation. Not sure how it works for the coaches and such..

Timken advanced to the District Semis with a 69-56 win over Perry. They play Medina at Copley High School on 3/12. The game was Timken's final contest at historic Canton Fieldhouse. As Optimist mentioned, Timken is closing. Toles had 21 points in the win, including 12 in the 4th quarter.

Both Timken's season and program ended last night with a loss to Medina. Medina features 7ft center Jon Teske headed for Michigan. Toles had 13 points in the loss.

That's a really good point. At this juncture, I can't see Saul wanting another guard unless it's a point guard.

Agreed. I haven't seen anything definitive on Phillips continuing to recruit Toles. While the recruiting sites still list us I think that dates back to the Christian offer.

I still think this kid gets some big-time offers. Possibly this summer?

Well this seems to clear it up, he didn't mention Ohio offer.

http://www.scout.com/college/football/recruiting/story/15...

"For basketball, I have offers from Akron and Kent State, but I have a lot of interest from West Virginia, Xavier and Dayton," Toles stated. "I'm playing football because I love it, but I haven't played since sixth grade. I've always wanted to play, but people kept talking me out of it."

That article is about Toles playing football. Good athlete. Probably could be successful in either at D-1 level. I actually think he'd be a good fit for Saul's system. Smooth handles and stroke plus he has some height. Would be interesting if we signed him as a point.
