This recruit is just another example of Saul recruiting smart, skilled, big men who can shoot and pass and defend. I guess versatility is the word he's looking for when they start recruiting.
He's stacking talent reminiscent of the Groce regime. By Groce's last year the roster was so loaded 1 through 10 that it carried through for another 2 very strong conference seasons.

Agreed. The competition for playing time is gonna be fierce for several years into the future. Short of Simmons, Campbell, Dartis and Kamiski, minutes are still totally up for grabs this year.

Agreed, but man do I see some quality minutes coming from BLOCK.

Great official visit to OU this weekend. Big thanks to the players and staff for showing us a good time https://twitter.com/hashtag/BleedGreen?src=hash https://t.co/zhgB8biyv9&mdash ; A.J. Gareri (@Agar44) https://twitter.com/Agar44/status/785165322437394432
Of course the guy has a boot on his right foot. Ugh.

I'm not sure that's a boot. It seemed like an ankle brace of some kind to me, but it's not the sharpest photo.

Since I live in Akron, I intend to keep people up to date on our recruit. Last night AJ had 22 points and 12 rebounds in an easy win. He was 9 of 17 from the field with 3 0f 5 from three point land. The article mentions he tore ligaments in his ankle this summer and is just getting into playing condition. The article which I couldn't figure out how to attach talked quite a bit about him though it was about their game yesterday.

Thaanks for the update. I think this may be the article. Sounds like a man amongst boys.

Ellet played Buchtel last night and won 78 to 66. The Akron city league is supposed to be between these two teams. AJ had 16 points and 11 rebounds. He was listed as 6'9 1/2" tall by the paper. We are getting some free publicity since they usually say Ohio University bound.

I love the rebounding. He will be needed next year with Tone gone. Will love seeing DT at the 5, Gareri/JC at the 4 and Block at the 3 with Jaaron and Dartis at the guard. Gareri and Carter can both hit 3s. Then you have Culver, Butler and Laster off the bench! We will be tough to guard. And don't sleep on Vander Plas. Kid seems like he's a quiet storm.

But where are we getting points from the center position next year? Doug Taylor is a role player...8-10 minute guy...not a starter. Getting points in the paint next year is a major concern.

Carter has shown a nack around the rim and will only get stronger. Gareri looks solid inside as well with an array of moves. As does Vander Plas. I think we'll be fine. There are a lot of teams who don't have a low-post scorer. Do you consider Tristan Thompson a low-post scorer in terms of making moves? No. His points are on putbacks and lobs. I would think we may run smoother as an offense if Big Tone (who I love by the way) isn't taking up 10 seconds off the clock backing down and posting up.

You're not at all considering the learning curve mid-major freshmen often need, especially post players. And we must be watching different games because I don't perceive TC as a ball hog in any sense.

Another easy win for AJ. Ellet beat Garfield 84 to 54. He had 15 points and 14 rebounds.

100% disagree with this. His numbers compare favorably to Reggie Keely's sophomore year numbers. He's not Tony but he'll be a very good starter IMO.

Love DT. Hope he proves me wrong and I will gladly come back and say I was wrong. And I really hope I am wrong. Would love for you guys to be right...he starts next year and averages 8 points and 6 boards.

I see Doug Taylor as a double-double machine next season--if he plays starter minutes. Don't be surprised if he averages 10 or more rebounds; he's very active and aggressive tracking balls and should corral a lot of offensive rebounds. Because he is so active, 10 or more points per game isn't too much to expect, in my opinion, if he hits his free throws.

Free throws will be the key because if I'm the opposing coach I'm telling my guys to never give him a lay-up.
