I'm guessing this is temporary to get him to talk to Saul first. If I was Tariq I'd see it as an upgrade, and he seemed really into this team and this campus from twitter this season

It's not the coach whos doing it. How many times do you have to be told that.

New coach doesn't decide this. The AD does. And I'm sure once the new coach has a conversation with Tariq, if he still wants out, they'll let him go.

Come on man.  You that naive?  Coach knows.  And is in full support of it.  Like I say over in the main basketball thread, here's some more old white guys making millions and playing games with these young men.  Disgusting.  The kid wants out?  Let him out  I expect more out of my university.  Way more.  And from the NCAA.  I'm disgusted.  Again.  Can't believe universities and the NCAA get away with this low down dirty crapola.

Not the coach, the AD, and this is normal in these situations

So what?  I expect better from Ohio.  How naive is the A.D. and coach to think this kid is suddenly going to want to play here, especially after this treatment?  Good grief.....  Anyway, you ain't changing my mind and looks like most everyone else thinks this is just peachy.  So, lets move on.

Why do you think he verbally committed and signed a letter of intent to play with us in the first place?  If he clearly wasn't interested he would have never done that...but you're right.  Why try to see if this kid might actually like this coach by having him talk to him?

Glad you are spending energy being disgusted by this seems like the logical thing to do.
The coach will talk to him and of Tariq doesn't want to come they will let him out of LOI.
Tariq will have  had to wait for 4 days compared to a letter he signed a year ago. Chill out you are going

Happens all the time that a new coach convinces recruits to stick to the LOI.  Nothing to see here.....

Let him go, he averaged 10 points a game and then quit, we can do better if he does not want to come here. If I were him, I would come to Ohio, he could play right away and develop his offensive game. He may end up riding the pine and transferring out somewhere else. You want out. Bounce

Enough!!! Kid will get a chance to leave after he talks to the new coach. Before then. He waits. It is the normal thing. It is the right thing. Period. Move on 69. You are off base on this one.

One thing Tariq should like about Saul is the fact that our new coach is able to be successful regardless of the types of personnel he has... The first team he took to the NCAA's was guard oriented whilst the last team had more versatile bigs. Considering Tariq would be one of the highest ranked recruits to come our way in a long time, the chances of him being a focal point of our offense/team would likely be high.

At this point, all we can do is cross our fingers that Saul can get Tariq to buy in...

Look, I want the kid to come here.  Let him hear from the coach, and hopefully he'll stick by his original decision.  If not, well, life goes on.

But no one should be under any illusions that this kid is gonna come in and change the program.  It reminds me a lot of Zeke Marshall at Akron, who as I recall was rated top 50 by some people coming out of high school.  The rating was based solely on POTENTIAL, not on how he was actually playing at the time.  And it took Marshall until his junior year, as I recall, to become a serviceable player.

Best thing we can do is just leave the kid alone.

Bobcat Love arguing with Tariq's dad on twitter makes for good entertainment,  but probably isn't going to help our chances with retaining the kid.

No, he shouldn't. Only one person needs to engage Tariq or any of the recruits and that is the Coach. The rest of us are just fans and need to stay out of it - and certainly not insult the parent. Pretty easy for Coach to go in and honestly say, "I don't know the guy, he is obviously doesn't speak for me or the university so let me tell you about what I want to do at Ohio" and go from there - but no need for back and forth.

Bobcat Love going all Sonny Corleone and showing his true feelings outside of the family isn't going to help the Godfather's negotiations with the Turk, but I doubt there's anymore that could be done at this point anyways.

This handler is obviously dishonest and manipulative and as a result a trusting father and son are being duped. He tried to argue that Tariq was the last to know about JC leaving when most of us found out when HE tweeted that JC had talked to Tariq in Boston, before any offers were accepted.

If you go back and look at the twitter timeline of both Tariq and his father you see a long history of excitement about Ohio. That doesn't all just instantly go away without some outside manipulation. During a coaching change Tariq should be looking for a reason to stay, not an excuse to leave. Its sad to see someone get manipulated by an opportunist like this. Tariq could have been special at Ohio and would have seen good playing time his freshman year, now he's going to get pushed into going to a "big" school to stroke his handler's ego.

Oh well, good luck Tariq, you're missing out on an amazing opportunity. I'll leave it with two tweets from Tariq's dad a week before this mess started-

"big schools going down. It's not name on the jersey. The upper class man saying the hell with these overrated freshman"

"The day of classifying D1 programs as major and mid major is coming to an end. A smaller school will win NCAA soon. D1 program is D1 program"
