What's the thought? Transfer or four-year player? I'd bet a transfer at this point, either from JuCo or a grad-transfer.

Has to be Grad Transfer or JUCO. Whomever it is I hope they are ready to step in and play 25 minutes per game.

Sylvester Ogbonda from Georgia Tech:

https://twitter.com/iaresylvester/status/1131263293656580096

6'10" forward, appeared in 10 games last year averaging 1.8 points and 1.7 boards in 6.7 minutes/game. Redshirted as a freshman, and played sporadically in 3 years at Tech, so he would appear to only have one year of eligibility remaining.

Ogbonda was a 3-star, Top 300 recruit nationally coming out of HS

Good find! One year is perfect. Allows Boals & staff to focus on a 3-4 year player for that spot next year.

Love it. I'll take a Power 5 conference.....6-10 transfer any day of the week. Hope he's ready to take it to another level and play 25 minutes per game.

He played against Ohio for a couple of minutes when Ohio beat Georgia Tech a few years back. Interesting turn of events!

In reading a few articles, it sounds like Sylvester just got stuck playing behind some really good quality big men. Pastner seemed to really like him. Considering where we were in the process and how late it is, I think Boals gets high marks here for bringing this guy to Athens. Valedictorian of HS class....I like that. Can't wait for this season to get underway. Stunning how well Boals did this recruiting period with what he was facing.

Given who was left to recruit from, I'd say this is a nice get, though I know nothing about him really. If he's able to offer 20-25 min/game, and 6 and 6, I'd call it a solid get.

I give them high marks for getting McDay to stay, Roderick and Price to come. Those three guys should really be the core for the next 4 years. Brown and Foster look like solid gets as well. I like Foster as a guy who seems to have touch and skill. Personally, I don't care about the athleticism if the production is there. I'll be interested to see how Preston, Springs, Murrell, McMurray and Vander Plas fit into things moving forward.

Lastly about this next year's group, I'm really, really hoping Jordan Dartis gets the full go, and is able to have a healthy, productive, and enjoyable senior season.

I'll be interested to see what they're able to with recruiting next year with what currently looks like three scholarships to recruit with. I'm always going to be an advocate of saving one for a transfer in the spring signing period, and kind of hope they do that. Regardless, a nice foundation has been built in recruiting. Hopefully it translates to results on the court and an entertaining brand of basketball.

This is perfect. Is this guy going to be All-conference? Probably not, but we needed a big who can play right away more than anything.

I think it's a safe bet that Boals will have more than 3 scholarships to recruit with next year as he continues to rebuild the roster.

The Georgia Tech Info Guide has a few positive statements on his page (20); especially under "Career Notes". I realize such documents tend to have a positive slant for the home team but still good to see. They also show him at 6'10", their tallest player, although I've seen 6'8" listed elsewhere. I wonder which is more accurate?

Is he a grad transfer? If not,he will have to sit out a year.

If he is immediately eligible, this is a good get.

Several links in this thread confirm that he is a grad transfer.

This is excellent recruiting by this coaching staff. They get an A from me. Overall, I dont see how they could have done better.

Seems like a great late signing. Like others have said it looks like a one year player that should be able to give quality minutes immediately.

I liked Kevin Mickle when he transferred. He was someone who did not wow at Dunk City but who was able to do well in the MAC. Maybe this dude can be like that
That would be icing on the cake.

Plus he’s a great student who seems excited to get a masters at OU, after graduating from a great school at Ga Tech. Seems like he’ll help build the culture Boals wants to build.

He was a team captain at GT which says a lot considering how limited his role was on the team. Not sure how much he'll contribute with us but it's hard not to like this kid.

That would be icing on the cake. [/QUOTE]I was thinking similar thoughts - that perhaps he can be the 2019-20 Kevin Mickle. That would be great.

Just wondering, how often does Ohio have 3-6’10” guys? Assuming Springs is that height.
