It may be nothing, but both Boals and Thornton are now following 6'9", 250 lb. Nigel John from Texas. John was a Washington State commit before their coaching change, and also had offers from Kansas State and Tulsa, among others. Ranked 3 stars and #371 nationally in the 247 composite rankings:

Home schooled. Love it! Nigel could be a somewhat under the radar guy in regard to being known by the masses. That he had signed with a power conference team, and was recruited by others, bodes well for his potential. He's not playing against anyone his size on this video, but he has some low post skills to work with. Hope we're trying to get him.

On the surface, he seems like a kid a bit out of our reach with Power 5 offers and that kind of physical presence. It would feel like a big get if we could get him to Athens. Even though he is physically so much bigger than other kids in the video posted, I liked what I saw!

I agree about the surface but all Boals has to do is show this big guy some film of Roderick, Price and McDay and say "Big guy, you're going to get to play with these 3 guards for your ENTIRE career." Our wing depth should make any big man salivate. And he could play right away.

Here's a scouting report:

[Quote]John is an old school physical forward who does his work in the paint. The big man averaged just under 17 points and 11 rebounds this past season at Lakeland Christian Academy. John is a gifted athlete with good speed and the ability to absolutely jump out of the gym.

He’s a raw talent but has tremendous upside going forward. [/OUTER_QUOTE]

There's a new sheriff in town, so why not us? Prediction: Jeff Boals will land a four-star recruit within three years.

John recently followed the accounts of several folks affiliated with Buffalo, so he may not be the recruit Boals mentioned the other day.

Not messin' with the messenger but, "may" seems like an odd thing to say. Either you are or, you aren't. My humble guess is that he is visiting but, is trying to keep it low key so as not to burst anyone's balloons unnecessarily.

This guy (Not sure his age) reminds me of Leon Williams in that he looks like a full grown man before playing a minute of college ball.

That was a typo. John didn't say he may not be the recruit, I was saying "so he may not be." Sorry for the confusion.

Pitt is out of the picture, but UB enters the sweepstakes.
Hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if UB gets his services.

We are a better choice, we offer playing time and a better new coach

Persevere. Wait it out. Until he signs to play somewhere else, there remains a chance. I remember when we went through this with Paul (Snoop) Graham, who was a big-time recruit out of fabled Ben Franklin High in Philly. Big schools were involved, Tark the Shark's UNLV Runnin' Rebels among them, I do believe. It seemingly took forever. But Snoop became a Bobcat. A great one, too!

Snoopy was fun to watch on the basketball court - a lot of Philly streetball in him. Was he a Nee recruit or Hahn? Nee was able to go into NY and Philly and get players - Deveraux, Alexander, Baron, etc. . .

Danny Nee. If I remember correctly, Snoop, Dave Jamerson and Reggie Rankin all were in the same recruiting class.

I wonder if there is a decision making issue with this kid or his family. Maybe he’s looking for Top 25 type offer. He was committed to Washington State and then decommitted. Now this article says Pitt stopped recruiting and lack of communication was part of the issue. That’s a PAC10 and ACC offer and now he has neither.

I don’t understand why Buffalo would be a front runner. They’ve lost their coach and most of their talent. I don’t see them as a blossoming program anymore.

They return a strong core of players, are still recruiting at a high level, and will be the team to beat this year in the MAC. Hopefully Boals and the team can end Buffalo's run of dominance.

I don't debate UB, but I might also throw BG into the conversation as one of the teams to beat this year. They return most of their core players other than Wiggins from a year ago.

Not knowing anything other than skimming this thread, it sounds like this young man is a probably a lock to attend more than 1 college during his career. Tariq Owens, Jr? Who knows, but this seems drawn out.
