I know there are some skeptics here, but I think Nolan isn't going to be a project. Is he going to come out and average 6 and 6 his Freshman year?? Probably not....hell...he might redshirt. However, he had legitimate offers from a number of MAC schools and you can see that his body is going to get stronger. This is far from an Andy Kanzig project in my opinion. All these years later, I still never understood that recruitment. Ranks right up there with the LaFerla twins.

Were those two both TOS recruiting decisions, or was Kanzig a Larry recruit?

In this case, I think Foster is going to have to play at least a little - unless they're able to snag that JUCO/Grad transfer recruit to start at the 5. I'm assuming that is the goal, but who knows?

I don't see how Foster can redshirt either with what we have on the front line now. Kanzig and LaFerla twins were all Larry recruits.

In the video I watched of him, granted all highlight films are made shots, he had a pretty decent looking mid range stroke for a guy his size. He also looks a bit bulkier in build than Springs did as a freshman. I'm interested to see how he looks once he gets here. I withhold judgement on recruits until I see what they look like on the floor in Athens.

That is a huge ability to have for a big man who can also pass. Opens up a lot of opportunities for cuts the basket and/or open threes.

Nolan will have a great opportunity to come in and earn playing time. At 6'10 he adds something that OU currently doesn't have...size. He will be on campus in June and needs to live in the weight room to add 10-15 lbs. If he does that look for him to get playing time this year. With him being around the coaching staff he will have 6 months to learn the system and be with the team. He has a high basketball IQ, plays good "d", and has good range out to 18 feet. I think he will surprise a lot of people come the fall! That being said he will be a freshman and as a former coach once said "the best thing about freshman is they become sophomores".

I'm on board. Would love to see him get the weight to 240 by the start of the season.

The one constant for freshman bigs is almost without fail they struggle with foul trouble.

Adjusting to the D1 pace/speed of play - and reaching/position etc. But knocking down a few 3's, hitting FT's, etc. can make up for that eh?

Love the optimism, but if you redshirt then YES you’re a project... that’s nothing to be ashamed of... 6-10 dudes are 99.99% projects... Humans don’t understand coordination at that height. It takes time to put it all together... this kid probably won’t be an immediate contributor but he’s well worth the chance. Let’s see if he cannot grow into his body and learn how to handle a basketball

From videos I’ve seen he has almost no athleticism. I still think he can be good because he has good skills and decent size.

Not sure I agree about the lack of athleticism. Coach Boals is emphasizing his talent on defense, which requires some quickness laterally.

He might not be that slow but he isn’t fast. He can’t jump at all though.

I seriously doubt he redshirts. We have a huge need for minutes from bigs. They have to work so hard that you can't ride a couple of guys for very long.

Boals will have to make a decision on whether you want a 6’10” guy that is slower and has little to no lift or a 6’7” or 6’8” guy that can move and is quicker off his feet. He seems set on getting 6’10”guys, we play in an athletic conference, you better make sure that the 6’10” guys can move. I looked at foster’s tape again and I like his effort, but he looks like a project, so now we have two projects (foster and springs). Let’s hope he can find a play right away and be affective guy and not just a guy that he looks up at.

I've given up on trying to project big men. Guards? Forwards? I can spitball it. Big men? No earthly idea who is going to pan out and who isn't. The process is so incremental that unless you're in practice with them every day I can't imagine being able to proclaim someone a project who will blossom or future 12th man.

I'm not sure the coaches even know, given what I read in Tom Haberstroh's recent article about the NBA Draft and scouting basketball players.

Having watched highlights of Foster as well as a lot of the recent NBA playoffs, I have to say Foster's game reminds me of Leonard . . .

. . . not Kawhi, but Meyers (of Portland). And I'll be ecstatic if Foster ends up anywhere close to matching Meyers Leonard's game.

He is not nearly as fast or athletic as leonard. He will need to work on his agility and get stronger. I found very few highlight tapes of him, but I loved one where he dead-sprinted to the opposite end to block a shot. He looks like he can be an effort guy initially and as he gets more polished he can become more of a factor. You can't take too many kids like him. He is tall, but he is slow and nonathletic, most high-quality MAC big men are under a little undersized, but they can move and they can jump ie Nick Perkins.

I compared him Meyers Leonard, not Kawhi Leonard. I thought that was clear.

I was talking about Meyers Leonard as well. It would be insane to compare him to Kawhi. He had a no step vertical of 30 inches and moved very well. https://www.google.com/amp/s/chicago.sbnation.com/platfor...

As noted in TBOB's post of this tweet, yes.
