I'm one of the more optimistic around here but I'm not really buying the accuracy of the info at that link. There's a zero percent chance he's the #20 recruit in the country. The description of him reads like a sales piece. I admittedly am not familiar with this website but I'm thinking it's meant to trump up abilities to draw interest rather than provide an honest evaluation.

For example read another prospect's "final evaluation" and they read almost the same word for word.
I’m pretty sure the #20 rating is for the camp not a national rating of all recruits.
I do agree that the write up is a little too glowing( and looks more like a press release by his family.)

He was honorable mention All State by AP after 2018-2019 season.

He reminds me a bit of former Indiana/Vandy center Chris Lawson. I'm not sure what his numbers were at Indiana but he was a 12/6 double-double guy at VU. And Lawson couldn't outrun my mother-in-law or jump over a phone book.

So do you think he's going to be a "primary ball handler"? All I'm saying is if you click on other athletes profiles they have the same wording of player attributes, some word for word, so it's pretty obviously not entirely accurate. I agree with the KVK comparison, I'm just saying that website is bogus. I think we'd all be happy if Nolan produced at the KVK level.

Here is a write up from MLive the local news website. Season totals aren’t too impressive.

Nolan Foster, Mattawan
A veteran and balanced Mattawan roster prevented the 6-foot-10 senior from posting eye-popping numbers, but there were few players in the area who could impact the game as much as Foster. He helped Mattawan complete a perfect regular season and win its first district title since 2006.
Foster averaged 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks per game, and with scholarship offers from Division-I programs like Toledo and Central Michigan, the end of Mattawan career doesn't signal the end of his basketball career.

Thanks. Don't know who faced better competition, but the scoring and shot blocking statistics are better than those from Abba Lawal.

Looks like Foster is spending the spring/summer with Ohio-based 17U C2K Elite on the Under Armour national circuit, along with Michigan recruit Zeb Jackson and a host of top 2020 recruits, including some we are looking at. This also tells me he’s probably one of the younger ones in the 2019 class.

I am sorry for not being excited about this one. We already have a project in Springs and Wight looks like he is better than both of them. Abba has been playing basketball for the last four years and is a consensus top 10 Ohio basketball player. Nolan has been playing ball since the second grade. I think that we need two guys that are better than springs or we need to sign two grad transfers so that we can sign two next year when there is a bigger talent pool, we should also be cool with a 6’8 220-240 guy that can move and rebound, but signing people because you look up to them will not win the MAC. I hope this kid keeps improving. Go Cats

The only places I know that ranks Ohio high school players are 247 and tripledoubleprospects. 247 has Abba as the #11 senior in the state and TDP has him as the #5 post player in state. Where is he a consensus top 10?

BTW, here are Abba's senior year stats. In a league where there is only one other player who can match up with him physically (West Clermont's Jackson Ames, who's worth a look), shouldn't he have been more dominant if he were not a "project" ?

Abba has been playing for 4 years, Nolan has been playing since the second grade, ABBA probably has a lot more upside, He already moves better and jumps higher. . We needed a win this weekend and we got another project. That scouting report was either by his mother or gf or it was about Marvin bagley (handles and a facilitator).

Mattawan played in a LOT of very low scoring games. Seems that league grinds it out, slow tempo. I'm sure that skewed Foster's numbers downward. But the articles on his games usually emphasized how he dominated games in a lot of ways.

Here's a question: what is the percentage that newly incoming BIGS actually make a meaningful impact during their freshmen season in Ohio history? They all can't be Leon or Brandon. There is a higher learning curve for big men, mostly because they now are going against guys their size every night, as opposed to every 10-12 games, only tournament games, or sometimes never.

Just relax, trust the system that Boals is putting in place. Certainly can't judge any of these guys until they step onto the Convo floor in November-December.

Agreed. It's a little easier to get big recruiting wins for wings than it is for big men. The supply of big men is smaller and almost all Elite bigs are taken by high majors.

Agreed and more reason to go extremely guard heavy with "serviceable" bigs.

And then hope to get lucky with a big recruit.

I agree polished nearly 7 footers just do not end up in our conference...gotta take some skills and hope to develop the rest. Coach comments seem to suggest his most notable value is defensively. Also a 3.8 GPA. Great defense, an outside shot and a good head on his shoulders is a good start...develop some strength in the offensive paint and you have a valuable player in the MAC. Glad we got a big to balance out this massive class...now up to 7 (8 with the walk-on Brown).

Welcome to Ohio, Nolan. My son Nolan will be very excited that a Nolan has joined the team.

Judging by the very positive responses to the players Jeff Boals already has signed in a short period of time--in spite of a dwindling pool to choose from--I'll most definitely trust his judgment on Foster. Seems like Foster is more of a stretch four than a center at this point in time, which is fine with me. And I do see him as an under-the-radar guy who probably brings more to the table than he's being given credit for. And don't forget Toledo offered him a scholarship. That coach recruits shooters all over the place; his teams are extremely difficult to guard. So if you question Jeff Boals' judgment on this one, trust Tod Kowalczyk's.
