[quote]Ohio MBK: On the blog, Bobcats secure commits from Ben Roderick, Marvin Price and Miles Brown on a big recruiting weekend. Plus, Boals' first staff is in place.[/OUTER_QUOTE]

Arkley sent out a tweet that linked a new article. I dont have a messanger subscription, but the teaser says in addtion to Roderick and Price Boals got a commitment from Miles Brown. This is the only Miles Brown I could find on rivals / verbal commits. He it does list an offer from stony Brook (along with Canisus, Bryant, and Central Arkansas).

If you count Miles and Michael as commits, that would bring the total to four (including Roderick and Price).

I don't think they would count a preferred walk-on as a "commitment" but we shall see.

Welcome to Miles & Michael!

This one looks to be a little more under the radar than our other 3 commits...Appears to be a prodigious outside shooter. Nice to get his brother as a preferred walk-on, good for both sides.

Up to 6 scholarship (7 total) freshmen next year.

He is quick with over 600 steals in his career. Under the radar compared to others (but still with 6 D-1 offers), but what a scorer. Sounds good to me.

Video from a game where he scored 48. Arkley says he averaged 33 ppg. I wonder what the competition level was because he should have received heavier attention averaging 33. Also, the refs in that vid are pretty bad.

More state titles and a state player of the year—as a junior.

Having lived in New York my entire adult life, I can tell you that kids who play at small schools or private schools can fall through the cracks. There are just so many schools, so many big schools, that they just may not get that much attention. So I would err on taking seriously a baller who puts up big numbers in this state.

Along these lines, I'm still kicking myself for not knowing about Wally Szczerbiak, who put up huge numbers playing at a small school 40 minutes from where I live. I was managing a recording artist at the time and wasn't piped into Long Island high school hoops at all. I would most definitely have alerted our coaching staff if I knew about him. I know they would have come to see him. Making matters worse, I personally knew Wally's father, Walt, going back to the late 1970s.

Seems he wasn't highly recruited because he's not very big and put up big numbers against small schools and probably other players who weren't very big. But he's a scorer and a shooter, which usually translates against any level of competition, so he sounds good to me.

Yeah it's going to be interesting to see how his game changes once he goes against some bigger competition. I don't know if there is a player over 6'3" in that video. Still excited to see what he can bring to the table.

Welcome Miles!

His VC page and highlight video lists him at 6'2. Stevie was listed at 5'10.

Does this PG commit make anyone else worried about the Mcday commit? 3 PG's now on board in back to back classes.

I think McDay is more of a shooting guard.

McDay is more of a point guard and he can play, brown is more of a two guard and he can play. We will have four guards on the court at times with Price being our power guard that can rebound.

I like this signing, but I see a double standard on this board here. This is exactly the type of signing that would’ve drawn huge criticism under Saul... Guy from small school putting up HUGE numbers without many D1 offers... If I recall James Gollon dropped 33 a game in Wisconsin before signing here.

We gotta give the staff some trust to go find guys that aren’t on the AAU scene

Fringe recruits didn't draw criticism in Saul's first year. Everyone was on board. Fringe recruits in years three, four and five? Hell, yes, they drew criticism because there were bad trends and records pointing to recruiting issues. Boals deserves the same benefit of the doubt Saul got, and based on early results, he's blowing away my expectations. I look forward to seeing what Brown can do.

I like the feel good nature of this board right now, but this is what I'll say on this topic. Yes and no. Taken in a vacum..yes. 6 foot guard that appears to have not played against solid competition...that's classic Saul. We'd all probably be freaking out if this were a Saul signing. But here is the difference. Boals signed him with Roderick and Price. This looks a whole lot different. Saul never signed anyone like Roderick and Price. My guess is there is a good chance Brown redshirts this year with Preston and Lunden obviously playing point.

With Saul...these type of signings became habit. We'll have to judge this a few years from now. It appears Boals has been on this guy for a long time when he was at Stony Brook. It's not like this is his fifth year of signing guys who on paper didn't have many D-one offers. Recruiting was Saul's downfall and we all know it. I'm staying positive with each of Boals recruits and have no reason to not buy into what Boals is doing with recruiting.
