From what I see - and have seen - somewhere/mix between Swatley and Flomogenezation looks about right. Plus - can shoot from distance - assume that means the FT line also - Good thing for a Big! I see couple years development - then maybe two years lot of PT and solid contributing....

That's how I see it too. Learn a couple years and bang bodies with Doug and Jason in practice. Be a major contributor by Junior year.

More dunks and swats and whatnot here. Looks like a Wadly clone.

I don't care that Nate didn't put up big numbers his junior season. Having watched the video, I'm TOTALLY excited about this kid's potential! From this video, he's got feet, he's got athleticism, he's got spring (no pun intended!), he's got hands, he's got timing on blocks, he can sink a jump hook with either hand, he can rock the rim with dunks. I expect him to have a big uptick in production this high school season, maybe not as much as Jaxson Hayes, but really significant. I can't tell you when I've been so excited about a kid coming to Ohio! It's way too early to tell or to put this on him, but with his size and athleticism, he could end up being the missing piece we've been looking for for decades to lead us to the next level.
WOW! What you write here has got me excited. I can't wait to see this guy sign an LOI in November.

Was just reading that Nate has only played basketball for three years. Who's our big man coach?

Today is LOI day. Hoping to see announcements come in.

I hope he's better than Flomo, and suspect he will be over the long haul.

Nate's team United Faith is playing in the Blue Collar Basketball classic in Buford, GA this Saturday. They'll play defending Georgia state champ Buford High at 6pm.

Buford features three players currently going D1, including forward Marcus Watson who has offers from Oregon, Iowa, Virginia Tech, Clemson and a bunch of SEC schools.

4 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks in last game. Might suggest what his role will be early on.

the big guy from Maryland impressed with his ability to block and keep it in play. Always appreciated a guy who could do that as opposed to the guy who swatted it out of bounds only to give it back to the offense. Hope Nate is a blocker and not a swatter

One of my biggest pet peeves. The funny thing is it's so much easier if you don't swat it but it doesn't draw the ooohs and aaaahs like a big swat does. And you are less likely to get called for the foul.

I hear you guys and you're right. But after not having a blocker or a swatter for more years than I care to remember, I'll settle for either one--or even a player who can even alter a shot!

i think Carter Sr year is "the year".

nathan could be jon smith as soph with more length. affect shots, blocks and grab reb.

I reserve the right to change my mind on this, but I'm not sure that later this year, and next couldn't possibly be "the year" as well, assuming we can keep guys off the disabled list.

Nobody has signed any thing yet. Only a verbal commit and we know how binding those are these days.
Fair point, but in basketball, most of the time it is.
This was my first thought as well...

Funny how people come into recruiting threads and question a kid's loyalty. If I'm a recruit and sees that from a "fan" that negativity impaxts my perception of the fanbase and the school.

Can anyone tell me what % of kids who have verbaled to OHIO under Saul have gone on to sign their LOI?
I'm guessing it's pretty close to 100% over the last 5 years...

It is 100%. Kendall Crute, who was actually a Christian recruit, was the last one we lost.

United Faith is playing in the Phenoms Palmetto Winter Classic at Ben Lippen High School in Columbia, South Carolina this weekend.

They lost to Miller School (St. Crozet, VA) last night 74-69. Nate had 11 points. You can watch the game on this site if you so choose.

They play another North Carolina school, Independence, this afternoon.

I'm not a talent scout or trainer....

Watched this kid last night. Need to temper hopes of an immediate impact player. Didn't stand next to him, but he didn't look 6'10" - nor present himself as a 6'10" body. Certainly didn't tower over others (but long arms). He is thin, very thin (saw a web site that said he benches 120 - I'd tend to believe that - that will be his first college need). His gait shows he hasn't nearly grown into his body - which is understandable.

I watched the 1st half. he came off the bench and scored 3 points (1-3 from 3 and a missed put back) and had 3 rebounds at half (finished with 6 and 6 - about what he averaged last year at a larger school and right at his season average this year). Teams is deep, so sure coach tries to spread the minutes - not worried about his starting or not.

Offensively he'd set up briefly in the lower box, then would quickly drift to the corner looking to take a 3. Had one offensive board on put back attempt - otherwise didn't mix it up in the middle - stayed outside. On defense played the middle. one foul on a block attempt on a guard, otherwise not tested much inside. But did have difficulty holding out others on rebounds.

United Faith players didn't show much basketball acumen: poor footwork, spacing, etc. Did play aggressive D at the 3 point line and a solid half-court zone trap press. But get the impression little "coaching" taking place.

Will absolutely need a redshirt next year. Then another couple years to learn the game and get coached up. On D needs to learn how to dominate space, rather than occupy space. On offense will need to get more physical and aggressive - we don't need a stretch 4 focused on shooting shots from the 3, The kid that started ahead of him was much more active setting picks and banging down low - getting loose balls, etc.

Understand he has only played basketball a coupe of years. Will need considerable time to continue to learn game - certainly can't teach height, but can teach how to use height - which unfortunately I don't see happening at HS program. Has decent shot, but practicing shooting and learning game are two very different things.

Again, not a talent scout or trainer, will defer to Saul on what he sees. But don't see another Flomo or Smith, nor contributing much during Carter years - good news he will learn more watching Carter's footwork in one practice than he knows at this point. Will be a couple year project, then will see.
