How about we take a look at the co Ohio player of the year Torrey Patton. Jaaron could help us land this guy. He just put up 34 in the state semifinals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hN63Gwvif_I

Not to play the "no one else is recruiting him" card, but thus far he has no D1 offers. I'm guessing there's a reason for that.

He has a very low release, that could be a problem and probably needs to fine tune his body. He remids me of Sonny Johnson, Sonny was not that athletic, but he could score in a variety of ways. Sonny ended up averaging over 15 points in 25 minutes per game at Ohio. Patton did score 36 on Gary Trent Jr. http://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/trent-hits-prolific... /

If he's anything like Sonny - he'll be great. Sonny is one of the best I've ever seen at Ohio. He would be all kinds of fun to see play for Saul.

Not sure the competition, but looks pretty good to my untrained eye. Agree on the shot but, he would have some time to fix it right? Also, nice long reach... I wonder what his wingspan is.

This kid is no Sonny Johnson. Hell he isn't even Sonny Jr.

Talked to an assistant from Niagara on Friday and asked him who they were here to see. He said everybody, but they really liked Patton!

He got an offer from Akron on March 27th, it will interesting to see if Groce keeps it or pulls it. Lebron helped him get the offers.

Local article on Patton from March after Trotwood's state title loss to SVSM.

http://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/trotwood-madison-st... /

Edit - I know the writer was only trying to make a comparison about All-Ohio players from the Dayton area who were lightly recruited - but if he ends up a 6'4 version of Norris Cole then sign me up!

That's an interesting list. Akron (former coach Keith Dambrot); Duquesne (new coach Keith Dambrot); Robert Morris (city competitor with Duquesne); Wright State (WHYYYYY??) and that team out West which lost its only two good players to transfer and will be awful again.

he may be a homeboy for any number or reasons, and prefers to play close by. May have really hit it off with the coach. Knows he's got an excellent chance at playing a lot...but who knows?

It's not only low but it's also a deliberate release with almost no lift. I'd also question the accuracy of the height. He doesn't look 6'4" unless he's grown since that video. Looks more like 6'2". He is productive however. I just worry about him being able to get that shot off against D1 competition.

I guess we'll find out first hand whether he can get that shot off.

He needs to change his shot and trim the babyfat. He has potential, but that release is way to low.

I truly hope that Kirk/Butler dominate this kid. I am ready for our freshmen to show Groce's freshmen that they are better. I believe they will be if Saul lets them play.

Groce has only had 3 weeks to recruit Akron. If anything, I say you can begin the apples to apples comparison with next year's freshman. Hold your fire on that line until we see what Groce can go get now being back in the MAC.

I agree completely. And Groce will have something at his disposal at Kron that he didn't have at OU: non-academic qualifiers ability to stash a kid who doesn't qualify for a year (Harney, Tree). He will milk the poop out of that rule..and rightfully so.

That's fun....How many times I have said on this board....Rhodes and Ku would listen to a report on a prospect and then say...."well maybe his ok for ----- but we can't get him in here" You are right. There are places that can take kids that we can not....OTOH if I am thinking right they would not fit Saul's system anyway. My limited experience around the last 2 years has been that these guys are pretty sharp cookies.

No Bert and Ernies no mo.
