Jason has committed, per his Twitter account. Good pickup for OU in my opinion. Covered a good amount of his games here in Columbus and think he's a good fit for SaulBall

Blessed to say I've officially decided to commit to Ohio University🙌🏼✅— Jason Carter (@Jason_Carter_25) June 30, 2015

Since you've covered him, can you share a little about what makes you say he's a good fit for OUr program? From the little I've read, he seems like a blue collar kid in the paint.

Excited to have Jason Carter join our program. Hope he has a fun senior season in high school.

The Bobcats now have the Dispatch central Ohio players of the year from both Division I (Jordan Dartis) and Division II (Carter).

As for being undersized...compensating for that depends on the overall skill set of a player, and also the players who will surround him. Our roster now has plenty of height so I'm not worried abt Carter's height.

Jason Carter commits to Ohio U

Announcing his commitment to Ohio University last night, Johnstown rising senior forward Jason Carter ended a long recruiting process by pledging to Saul Phillips' program.

Speaking with Carter on Monday about his commitment, the 6-foot-7 forward felt Athens was the best fit for him, despite receiving offers from Miami (OH) and Kent State.

Carter becomes the first commitment in Ohio's 2016 class, as the Bobcats are looking to be one of the MAC's best this upcoming season with a strong recruiting class coming in. It was that projection of improvement that was critical in Carter's commitment, as he noted that he feels the Ohio program is on the rise.

A skilled and versatile forward that dominated during his junior season at Johnstown, including a 29-point, 29-rebound performance in the postseason, Carter is looking to lead the Johnnies to a district title as a senior after coming up short this past season.

Exactly. Reminds me a bit of a Jerome Tillman from when I was in school. Maybe not as athletic but he is deceptively athletic. Pretty tenacious on the rebounds, good low post game too. Not sure about his outside shot. Just love his energy on the floor. Johnstown does not play in the toughest league by any means in Central Ohio but he's put up good numbers against some good teams in the past. Hoping he grows a little more too

How about the Connor Tava comparison? Seems apt.

Notice in this piece, Carter is calling Jordan Dartis a "true point guard". Interesting way to see how recruits and maybe the program is viewing him.

Quite the showing for Jason at the Adidas' Invitational in Indy Sunday. Scored 67 points in two games--33 (along with 11 rebounds) came as he led his team to victory in the championship game...

enters the season as the 13th ranked senior in OH, per prephoopsohio.com. It's an unusually strong senior class. Nine of top 10 heading to power conference schools, and the 10th, Seth Towns, could have done so also but chose to go to Harvard.

Other than what I've read on here I know nothing about this young man, but a few weeks ago he was described to me as a "game changer" from those that recruited him? :)

2016-17 roster looks solid. I'm excited for this season, but even more so for next.

things rolling in the right direction. next year's recruiting class will be two big and a PG?

Next year's class only currently has two scholarships. I'm hopeful for a point guard/combo guard type of player myself. I feel like the wings and bigs are solid for the future.

Rick Wiseman, the son of Wayne is a really good friend of mine in Nashville (we went to the tournament games in Nashville together during our Sweet Sixteen run), said Xavier and Dayton wanted Jason pretty seriously, and got real looks from The OSU and Michigan. Sounds like we got a real good one. Great job Saul.

Has anybody been able to find any video of him? I found two clips, one of which had him hitting a nice runner and the other showed his teammates missing several layups but he doesn't actually touch the ball.

Some people have said he's good enough to start at the 4 for our team the minute he steps on campus. It's good to hear schools like that were highly interested. As a fan, it adds a little extra validation that we've got another nice addition to our team next year.

Interest is one thing, but if Xavier or Dayton really wanted him they would have offered. But anyway he still seems like a great fit in the Mac as a slightly undersized but skilled pf. I could see him possibly starting as a sophomore.

It's possible that both programs chose someone else to give the scholarship to. Just means they liked others better. Looks like a good get based on his AAU history at the very least.

I saw Jason play over the weekend
He will be a beast after getting stronger. His high school team is average in a somewhat weak league
He will have to do things this season he will not have to do as a Bobcat. Tell the current underclass men -- one more winner is on the way

Johnstown beat South last night in a District Final rematch. Jason had a good all-around floor game with 8 pts, 8 rebs, and 6 assts.

As Johnstown played high-low with Carter feeding Matoszkia from the free-throw line area into the low post, the junior big man delivered, finishing tough score after tough score underneath.
Love reading this. Carter didn't score much but was effective in other areas. Sounds like a classic Saul kind of player.
