Al jefferson, Ed Sears esque. If he were 6'5", hey would be doing layups. He looks skilled and that is what matters. Athletically, he is not ready to deal with a sophomore year Ivo Baltic. He is coming back from a leg injury and looks better than last year

This is quite a stretch, he does look a lot more athletic than his old videos. He still has that slow trot going back on the defensive end. We can definitely be encouraged by the improved athleticism. He went from barely dunking with an inch to spare to now having about three inches to spare.
Huh? Sorry, but that baseline dunk where he left the floor behind the backboard was an extremely athletic move and he's well above the rim on all of the ones I'm watching.

That was a very impressive play. He started outside the arc and dunked with two hands off one foot from behind the basket on one dribble. And the defender tried to force him left.

Starting to look like he is one of those non-flashy kids that just beats you. Like Jason Carter.

Saul had this type of team at North Dakota State. He had a couple of athletes mixed in with those high IQ, great shooting big men. I see Gareri, Vander Plas, Carter and even Doug Taylor being able to stretch defenses while going inside. Then you have those guards in Darty, Culver, Butler and for next year, Laster and Jaaron.

At the mid major level, it's hard to overestimate the value of smart basketball guys. I'd rather have guys like that at the mid major level than take chances with high maintenance guys passed over by high majors due to behavioral issues.

This would be a great thread all to itself, but there are times when I'd like to see Ohio take a swing at 1 of these types of guys on a roster at a time to see what kind of difference they could make. It's a risk, sure, but seems like the reward would be worthwhile.

I'm inclined to generally think the same. Trent comes to mind. Akron how many years 20+ wins comes to mind. Taking "calculated risks" - often pay back with great rewards.....

I think we're thinking the same, in that it might be worth the calculated risk, as you say, to go after this type of player once every other recruiting class. In some ways, we could say that Kaminski is somewhat that kind of player, right?

I'm ok with taking a chance with a couple of high maintenance guys on your roster. The problem is when a midmajor loads up the roster with those guys for short term "winning".

As of late December, Ripon HS was ranked #1 in Wisconsin Div 3. Bennett is averaging 22 pts and 11 rebs, including a recent game with 21 rebounds.

Still ranked #1 in DIII at 11-0. They have destroyed every team they have played to date with the closest margin of victory being 15. They play some ranked teams in the next couple of weeks. Will be interesting to see if anyone can challenge them.

This kid may just be a steal for us. Looks like he's comfortable be a complementary player or stepping up and leading when needed. Looks more athletic than I thought originally. Can shoot from the outside and has some girth.

I like seeing us get some Wisconsin guys. They always work out for Bo Ryan and now Gard. I think Gollon will even be serviceable next year. Gets healthy, already could shoot and hopefully adds some muscle. He got playing time last year so he's not going to be too lost. I think he will be a nice player in the mold of a Travis Wilkins.

If Gollon can shoot like Travis could, we'll have a nice piece to the puzzle here.

Ripon just steamrolling everyone right now. They just played 8th ranked Onalaska and beat them handily, 77-51 to move to 18-0. BVP with 9 pts, 18 boards, 6 assists and 5 blocks.

Not that I think Gollon will be as good as T-Wilk. Wilkins is one of my all-time favorites. He's a guy I wish we had for four years. I think with 3 more years to play Gollon can certainly develop into a close version. Even next year with Jaaron, Culver and Butler slashing we need those spot up guys we will be missing with KK gone. I do like Vander Plas. I think all 3 frosh can play next year in a rotation.

Agreed on wishing we'd have had 4yrs of Wilkins. Great shooter, seemingly better person.

+1

One of my favorites, too. The guy really hustled and got the most out of his God-given talent, which wasn't top shelf.

Ripon earns a first round bye in the playoffs. Last regular season game is tonight at Waupun who is undefeated at home and ranked 25th in the state. It will be interesting to see how Ripon does in the tournament since they haven't won a game by fewer than 10 points the entire season.

Too bad Ripon and Oshkosh North are in different divisions. Would like to see BVP and Haliburton go at it. And BVP to give Haliburton a little nudge to bring him to Athens too.

Ripon wins their final regular season game to move to 22-0. This one was a relative squeaker 70-64 at Waupun. #1 seed Ripon opens their playoff run on Friday against the winner of #8 Lamira vs #9 Omra. They beat Lamira in the first game of the season 69-48. The #2 seed in their bracket is Waupun.

Ripon wins their first playoff matchup against Lomira easily 85-53 on Friday. The next night they dispatch Berlin, again easily, 84-49, to win the Regional title for the 4th year in a row. They next play Waupun, who gave them their two toughest games this season on Thursday in West Bend.
