Enough already. Saul having Block handle PG duties? Now I have a problem with that. I don't know what the guy is thinking on this one. Wow.
While I agree Gavin is far from a natural PG - there's a reason he's handling the ball a lot. He passes well and doesn't turn it over. Our starting "PG" is more of a scorer than a distributor. We need a facilitator and Gavin is willing. He leads the team in assists (99 = 3.3 apg). He also leads the team in assist:turnover ratio (99:47 = 2.106).

Total Assists
1) Block - 99
2) Kirk - 93
3) Dartis - 62

AST:TO
1) Block - 2.106 (99:47)
2) Dartis - 1.590 (62:39)
3) Laster - 1.318 (85:58)

Let's hope Kirk limits the turnovers as a Soph and then Gavin won't be forced into that role nearly as much next year.
Sometimes Kirk, for as good as he is, is a momentum stopper. There were several occasions tonight when we were up 4 or 5 and he took some off balance shot or turned it over when ball movement was the key. Block adds stability. But when times are tough it's amazing how clutch Gollon has been. Dude is becoming so reliable!

We got away with a good win - but man we gotta take care of the ball better. Fiami's on ball pressure is excellent - but not enough to overcome the Suckage. Great hang in there and just win baby effort by the Cats

Nice win! Way to finish! Laster, Dartis, Taylor and Mickle handles business tonight. Kirk and Gollon had their hands full with Miami defense. Block unable to score tonight. Mickle and Butler needs more action on the floor to contribute to the bottom line. Looking forward to next game as the Bobcats are heating up.

I ventured a trip to the Zips vs Flashes at the JAR this evening.

Game took 2 hours and 15 minutes in regulation. Tons of fouls.

Kent goes without a field goal in the last 6 minutes and scoreless in the last 4. Kent got a call reversed and in a tie with 22 on the shot clock they inbounds and during the entire 22 seconds they never had the ball inside the three point line and tossed up a buzzer beating air ball. Zips then went for the last shot and got fouled with 3 seconds left and player stroked in 2.

Then the Flashes guard must have enjoyed the result of seeing Simmons dribble out the clock at Kent last season and well neither got a shot off!

Turnovers and fouls galore.

Nice win, Bobcats. Maybe we'll do it again in Millett Hall on Monday...???
Yes.. where is the love ? really good win, Laster was everywhere , playing smart and strong - so appreciate Kevin Mickels great play , he’s just a cool player. ..... proud of the team effort - now onto MAC tournament round 1 . GO BOBCATS
Sorry. Just got back from our high school's production of Fiddler on the Roof. A really good production. Sounds like a good effort in beating Fiami. Plan to watch the replay in the morning.

Best move he made was having Block and Dartis handle the ball. TK had his hand whacked in the first few minutes and spent time getting it tended to while Zach earned his keep. TK went back in and was getting eaten up by Ringo and others. Looked to me like they were transforming into Walt Frazier and Gary Peyton before our eyes. By taking the ball out of TK's hands they stemmed the tide of turns. He still contributed but did not have to bring the ball up vs constant pressure.

After the game his hand was wrapped in a huge mass of ice and saran wrap to hold it in place. I think that was superior coaching and excellent response by the team to adjust. But that's just me, what do I know. FWIW Paul Baron thought so as well... but what does he know about the PG position?

When you handle the ball as much as Kirk does, you are bound to turn it over more than anyone else on the team. Kirk is a good PG, Block has to prove that he can hit an open shot to maximize his performance. I hope he has a great senior year, Kirk is the man and we don’t need to pull out any stats to prove his worth. We are blessed to have a PG that can attack the rim and create his own shot. Block is an intriguing player, he started out this year and I was think all- mac and he ended up coming off the bench because he could not make a shot. He reminds me of Maxwell on the football side, he has the skill but he has to get control of his nerves.

I turned the television and caught the last 1:16 seconds of Akron vs. Kent game. That game appeared to be very emotional. A scuffle broke out postgame during the congratulations walk through. Lots of words and shoving occurred. One Kent player standing on the court attempting to pull off his jersey taunting a fight. I don’t know where Kent’s head coach went. But Groce pushed his players back and grabbed and embraced two of the Kent players talking to them to calm them down. I’m always proud of our men when they display good sportsmanship. These teams seem to have issues all the time.

Been that way all year on this board. Good finish for OHIO, but I think most fans aren't too fired up right now because we haven't defeated a real quality MAC team. EMU was solid road win, but that's it in conference. Hopefully we get a shot at Toledo in Cleveland...at least it's better than facing UB in quarters. Then again...gotta win the first game to get there. Let the madness begin.

OU Slam I’m not sure we watched the same game. Butler needs more minutes? He had his hat handed to him and the Miami guards also took his lunch money. Saul had to get him out he was simply overmatched. They also did a great job pressuring Kirk ALL night. I really believe Miami is on the cusp of turning a corner in their program. Their freshmen guards are only going to get better and the perimeter pressure they bring on defense causes loads of havoc.

Yeah, you can call it bandwagoning or whatever you want, but not many fan bases get excited about a team with a losing record.

I've been impressed with the fight of this team and I follow every game, but I wasn't surprised when I went in the chat room last night and found it empty. This program has to do a lot better or the erosion will continue.

Great night in Oxford watching my two favorite programs go at it ! Kirk was obviously banged up with the hand and wrist injury he originaly hurt in our last game, the Miami pressure was really causing us problems. He re-injured the hand very early in the game, but would not stay out of the action for long. Our kids responded to the pressure with extra effort from everyone. The scrap and effort of this group of kids grows on you if you are a true Bobcat. They have been through a lot of difficult situations in the past two seasons and they continue to battle no matter what. Very proud of our coaches and our kids last night. Keep grinding, keep fighting, keep recruiting and the Bobcats will be back.

Watching last night's game on ESPN3 and the first encounter in the Convo several rows up from the sideline, I'm starting to think this series might return to where it belongs and where it once was: two MAC contenders and rivals going at it in close, hotly contested games twice a year. I really like the athletes Owen has brought into the Miami program and I remain optimistic that Saul will get our program to where we all want to see it.

I'm not going to get in to a debate over Block bringing the ball up. Go back and watch some of the lazy passes (that resulted in TO's) and the us damn near letting Fiami take the game over towards the end of the half. This isn't an indictment on Gavin. Love the dude and hope he gets his swagger back (and he will). We can just disagree on this one.

I didn't post last night because I had too many vino's in celebration. Despite some of the lapses at times, we got the job done against a team who focuses on defense and does it very well.

Dartis and Laster are just warriors. This team just trades punches and refuses to go down.

A Miami coach was literally holding a sign that said BUTLER BACK as a head's up to pressure him specifically. I think he's going to improve and be a good player but he's not ready to run the team against that kind of ball pressure yet.

Probably not going to change much in the scout I would think. Got to take care of the ball and hit shots.

Monday is a different animal. Win or stay home. The Indiana kids will be ready for this one. One year ago I watched Oscar Robertson come home to hang the medals of the 3a CHAMPION around the necks of the kids from his Alma Mater. Indianapolis Crispus Attucks closed as a HS in the 1980s. It reopened in 2006. Nike was one of the kids The Big O hung a medal on. I like rings in the locker room, kids from programs that know how to win. Not happy when it is your arch rival. Time to beat them for a 3rd time before that program gets rollin. YOu think Paul Baron is a motivator...got to like Oscar telling your kids what it is like to win.

FOr history buffs (in the grand tradition of BA thread drift) Fascinating documentary on Attucks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjUlj-2_L3o

Saul has not earned an extension or a firing. We have won three in the row which many other bobcat teams have done in the past. If his recruits don’t pan out next year then we need to move on.

Agree with this. At this point I don't think he's "earned" either.

Worst-case, a loss to Fiami on Monday - and I still don't think he should be fired. He's done enough to get that final year next year and see if he can provide above-average results for 3 out of 5 years or not.

On the other hand, a win Monday doesn't earn him an extension either. To me, the ONLY thing that could bump him into the category of offering an extension this off-season would be if we made a run to the NCAA tourney or, at a minimum, the MAC title game. Now, in the realm of reality, that ain't happening - but in the hypothetical, then he would have made MAC semis 3/4 years and MAC finals and/or NCAA tourney 1/4 - and for that I'd be willing to give him a 2-3 year extension.

The most likely scenario is that he gets neither and we go into next year as a "make or break", "show me" season for SP.

And while I know nothing and this is much too premature... I think it’s safe to say that if a 2 year extension was given at this point and time and under these circumstances, you are using other people’s money. If you’re self employed and using your own money with: 1) losing record + 2) diminishing ticket sales + 3) diminishing interest + 4) diminishing misc revenues in parking, concessions, etc... then you either have a huge “hunch,” or you’re misappropriating $1,100,00 (2 years x $550,000 if that’s the figure). That’s a lot of bone. In my world I say, I’m already $2,000,000+ in, “prove it” and I gladly give you more. Until that time, tell recruits that an extension is in the works. Personally I hope that 2/4 years have been a fluke and he stays 20 more years. But until I get supportive data, you have the burden of proof.
