Roughly same as Bobcats vs North Carolina back in the day.

So you're saying there's a chance

My wife and I went out to dinner last night.

We were watching the OSU game on the T.V. by our table.

Guy comes over and asks who we were rooting for, then he saw my O.U. hat.

Turns out his son went to OSU,his daughter PSU and his nephew "to that preppy school".

He said his nephew couldn't believe how fashion conscious and well dressed the students at Miami, male and female, were.

Made for an interesting dinner conversation.

What do folks think about Buffalo's prospects against Kentucky. Will UV A be playing Buffalo or Kentucky?
They have a great upset formula and they're really good. They've got great guards, big men who can score, great coaching and outstanding defense. And their pace has to be hard to handle for any team. I don't know if I'd bet on them, but I wouldn't be shocked if they won.
Agree on all counts. If any mid major is equipped athletically to go toe to toe with the big boys it's Buffalo. Not only that, I believe Buffalo had Kentucky on the ropes last year.

Great to see the mid majors shutting people up while the power bubble teams are sucking.......

Usually eat supper between 5:30 and 6:00.
Have since I was a kid.

Ate a little earlier last night,to make sure we got home in time to watch the NCAA wrestling.

Nate Oats was a great interview last night. He won't be at Buffalo very long. Someone will more than double his salary in the next few weeks.

Agreed. Groce couldn't parlay the 2010 thrashing of Georgetown into a new job because that team had an awful record. Oats has proven that he can truly build a program. He's going to get multiple compelling offers, and it'll be hard to say no to them.

I like Buffalo's experienced team against Kentucky's youth. Buffalo has a good shot against the Wildcats and I hope they keep their run going.

As for Oats, I hope he stays at Buffalo. I hoped he's learned Groce's lesson that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Might be too hard to resist the $ though.

If Uconn has the cash to handle Ollie's contract, Oats buyout, and Oats contract, they should be on speed dial. But, they may not have all that cash.

I expect Kentucky to extend their D and give Buffalo problems, and shoot way better from 3 than Arizona. So I think Buffal is still a big underdog. But, we know it can happen....

What lesson? Oats just became the highest paid coach in the MAC at $600k. Groce made $1.7 million a year on average in his unsuccessful Illinois run (not including the massive increases for his staff, travel budget, etc.). So he can stay at Buffalo for five years and make $3 million or he can take an Illinois-like offer and make $8.5 million in the same span.

No coach thinks he's going to fail, so the only lesson he can learn is to nearly triple his money while boosting all of his loyal assistants. He'd be a fool to stick around, but he's great for the league and I hope he stays.

It helped Buffalo that Ayton looked like he couldn't wait for the game to be over so he could sign with an agent, never set foot on the Arizona campus again and get ready for millions of dollars. Sean Miller looked the same. Ayton may end up being a superstar but mark it down, Marvin Bagley would have taken over last night. I would take Bagley 10 times out of 10 with the first NBA pick. And Sean Miller should be ashamed for being dirty AND for not winning the big one (or this year any one for that matter).

They were talking about this this morning on WFAN.

They said the guys were announcing that they were entering the NBA draft before they finished wiping off their sweat after the game.

They were also saying how, before the game, the word out of Arizona was that all the controversy had "galvanized" the team and they wanted to use the game,to make a statement.

They did.

Can't help thinking that Arizona pulled a Georgetown and was thinking about Kentucky while looking past Buffalo. (Someone here posted after the G-town win that JTIII watched Tenn practice but didn't even send an assistant to watch us practice in Providence.) Bruce Pearl didn't overlook us, and Kentucky only has Buffalo to think about. Should be a good matchup.

Sad, though, that the streak has ended. Until yesterday, Ohio was the only MAC team since 2002 to win a men's NCAA tourney game.

Have to chuckle that Bobby Hurley was a one-and-done this year while his brother and his previous team both pulled big upsets in the first round.

That was awesome. Definitely reminded me of our Georgetown game where we didn't just pull off the upset, we dominated and embarrassed. Buffalo can beat Kentucky if they play like that again. Can't wait!

Kentucky is not a good 3 point shooting team -

Gabriel got hot in game 2 of the SEC tournament, but aside from that they can be cold from behind the arc.

Congrats to Buffalo! Came out playing aggressive on both ends of the floor. Hit the 3 ball, attacked the rim and ran a fast pasted offense. That’s how you coach the game. Don’t see coach Oats hanging around in the MAC for long.

They matched up with Arizona athletically very well. They won’t outathlet Kentucky so they have to clamp down defensively. They have to take good shots and rebound very well. They need to use their experience to their advantage.

Not at all sad. Always root for the MAC in March.

It was since 2003 not 2002, but I am glad they won. Much needed profile boost for the MAC. Plus we get a share of that extra tournament money.

I saw that when I walked in and read that. The reality is that AZ is much better than the other Wildcats out by the arc. UK has not shot the volume they usually do this year and they are out of the top 125 with 3%. Low volume low percentage vs Arizona who is around 80th in % and has 150 or so more attempts. I would like to see Buffs run. I think the thing UK has struggled with all year is a bit of havoc and quick aggressive guards.

Cal has been imploring UK to push all year but for some reason they seem to like to walk it up the court. Given the game planning I have seen from Oats and Co I like their chances. It will take some good bounces and hitting shots but they are well suited for the task

Would really really love to see the Bulls pull a Cleveland State and electrify that city. I lived there two years immediately after my stint in Athens--would be good for the MAC!

Then next year a healthy Bobcat team can stun them in Cleveland!

That is a nice piece. I decided to subscribe to The Athletic over the weekend. I've only read a few pieces, but I like the focus on good sports writing.

Nate isn't leaving for Pittsburgh or anywhere else this year. Bad news for the rest of the schools in the league trying to catch up to his recruiting and coaching. From recent article on his situation:

It sounds as if the money wasn't quite large enough to make Oats leave a team that has made three MAC titles in four years, and will be heavily favored to win again next season. Oats returns all but two of the players who beat Arizona in the first round of the NCAAs and has his best recruiting class coming in.

"Really, there's a part of me that kind of feels relieved," he said. "I really want to coach this team next year in a bad way. They're an unbelievable team. We're going to be better than a lot of high-major schools next year.
