What a great man. Never heard one single person speak poorly of his character, which in this profession is truly remarkable. Rest in peace Coach.

Sad, sad news. I remember watching his teams when I was in my first couple years at Ohio. Perhaps Ohio Athletics can do a remembrance of him in the coming season. Prayers to his family as they deal with his loss.

Safe to say there would be no Shaq of the MAC or Geno dribbling out the clock without Larry Hunter. Watching Ohio play at Kent back in the mid 90s when I was a kid was my first introduction to Bobcat basketball and Ohio University. Rest in peace, Coach.

Larry’s teams were always tough, always competed and always accepted challenges. Larry always presented a tough schedule and demanded accountability, while at the same time showed compassion and sportsmanship. The lessons that he taught his players and those that worked with him were invaluable and carried on throughout lives.

The saddest part of this is that tomorrow was the annual OHIO Basketball Hall of Fame, which was a favorite event of Larry’s. Last year he entered the HOF, and this year his place was already reserved to witness Gary’s induction into the OHIO Basketball Hall of Fame. Unless you were around, you cannot truly appreciate the relationship those two had. That 94 team, to this day remains close, they talk every day on group text and they get together every year for a round of golf and dinner. This is truly a very sad day.

Watched him play more than I watched him coach.

My boys loved his camps.

RIP fellow Cat.

Saw Larry for the first time during his first season at Wittenberg and my senior year at Maskingum. The previous year in a letter to the B&M, the Muskingum newspaper, I had ripped the Muskes and Wittenberg for playing a game of "keep away" in a 30 - 28 Muskie win. Even though the Muskies won the OAC tournament, he beat them twice in the regular season on the way to a D 3 national championship. A simple man, he was always gracious to everyone he met. Sad to have worked so hard for so long only to be able to enjoy two months of retirement.

Just went to ohiobobcats.com and on the landing page, is that Kermit in the background of the picture of Larry? If so, two Bobcat legends.
