Looking ahead into next Season - how many games do we know we have?

Marshall is the only one I know definitively. I'm from Cleveland so waiting for next year is our 4th major sport in these parts :)

Saul told caravan stop in Cbus Thursday that Georgetown and Purdue are on schedule...these are apparently away games.

When do the small non-conf tournament fields start filling up?

Those are usually filled a year or so in advance, I think. If we haven't seen an announcement for one yet, I would be surprised if Ohio got into one.

That's what I was thinking.

If he is putting these kind of games on the schedule, along with Marshall we presume, he must think he's gonna have a ballclub next year. I will be intrigued who else gets on the schedule.

Purdue might be the closest Ohio has been to Chicago for an OOC game since they were at Wisconsin several years ago. (I think DePaul was before that)

So Saul says we play Georgetown in Jamaica!
Also Iona at home and one high major to be named.
And Purdue in the Convo the year after.

So if we're playing Georgetown in Jamaica, I wonder if this is the tournament. Miami was in it last year and the 2018 field hasn't been announced yet, which is surprising. Last year was the first year of the tournament.

Last year's field included Tulane and Fordham, and Miami played both outside of Jamaica. I wonder if that was part of the deal, to play some of the field on campus.

So Iona was a 2 for 1?

EDIT - forgive me - I didn't realize it was right from Saul it was "Iona at home". Glad to hear it. That and Marshall are good games to have at home next year.

Oh no, had such high hopes for a game at Georgetown being local for me. Jamaica is cool too but I won't be drive the family truckster to that one.

"Ohio University alumni living in Greater Cincinnati will get an opportunity for the first time in 10 years to see the Bobcats take on Xavier in men's basketball at Cintas Center next season, according to a report from the Athens Messenger's Jason Arkley, who said Ohio head coach Saul Phillips confirmed that the teams agreed to meet in a one-off."

Field still hasn't been announced for Jamaica but saw announcement field would be 8 men's teams and 8 women's teams. Article also mentioned local team played last year.

Ohio's last road win vs Xavier was during the 1946-47 season?

Raise your hand if you were there.

looks like they are attempting to scheduling better. I see little down side to playing a tougher schedule. If the team is good that will help come conference season and the tournament. We are Ohio and the program needs to play an elite non-conference schedule. The stronger the schedule the more chance a better team comes to Athens.

Had a great discussion at Xavier and Miami with both athletic department people yesterday. We got to talking basketball and upon hearing what their doing in terms of scheduling tells me that athletic departments are figuring it out again. Having games of regional significance matters and with Ohio State going to Cincinnati for the start of the season I think put a lot of people on notice as well. With OU going to Xavier along with Miami, I hope to see more regional games on the docket moving forward for a lot of schools in the area. I mean Miami and Xavier are scheduled again, Dayton and Miami are back on the docket, and Ohio State sounds like their going around the state again. The only thing missing in the area is when WVU comes across the river again and the Xavier-Dayton series. Just me here and I know it doesn't pertain to OU exclusively, but it is exciting for the future prospects of scheduling when OU is scheduling Xavier and Purdue for regional games along with getting Marshall back in for home-and-homes (thanks Saul for this one) versus playing some school from down south that I've never heard of.

Hope it continues moving forward.

Miami fans are lamenting that they can't get Xavier and Dayton to Oxford anymore after they once did with regularity

Seconded. Any road game that I can drive to in 4-6 hours is better than "some school down south". I hope it continues as the OOC schedule gets filled.

Well they think they'll be able to here in the near future. Whether that turns true or not remains to be seen but at least there's optimism from their department in doing so.

More local opponents - even if not of the "big time" variety - would be preferable to the SWACtion we are usually subject to. Give me Wright State, Cleveland State, Robert Morris, Duquesne, NKU, Morehead State, etc. over Arkansas Pine Bluff.
