Does anyone know about Jason Carter's status as things get going in a few weeks? Is he healthy and ready to go?

Can't Springs step in for him? Saul beat out East Choctaw Community College, his other offer, to get him... right? And Saul is a full-time basketball coach who is on salary to coach basketball and the rest of us are not... so we are not allowed to question it when he loads the roster with (what appears to our untrained eyes) to be a bunch of barely recruited scrubs that will be relied upon in the future years to be the heart of the lineup.

In Saul we trust.

Did Springs kick your dog or something?

He's not fast enough to catch my dog. (who also happens to be from the Carolinas)

I'll give him a thousand bucks if he is fast enough to catch this Carolina "American Dingo" dog...

I think Greencat is the “BShot44” of the basketball messageboard. Hopefully his pessimism isn’t proven right like BShot’s is turning out to be. 😜

Getting back to the issue at hand, does anyone have any pertinent info on Carter’s health?

I spoke to him a few weeks ago and he said he was fine. After that it was reported that his leg was sore, but I believe in the latest Arkley article Saul indicated that only Dartis was not cleared for full unrestricted ball.

Thank you. It's nice to actually get an answer rather than another hate the coach post that's the easy response on here - in both boards.

Any word on Dartis' time table?

Nate Springs. I think we got a STEAL. Are you serious what exactly do you expect recruiting wise for a kid who only has played bball for 3-4 years. The upside for this kid is extremely high.

More Ellis Dozier. And the other guy who didn't even start on his juco team??? And the guys who were mostly only recruited by D-2 and NAIA schools?

In a couple of years Saul will be gone and the new staff will have to rebuild a doormat of the MAC leftover back into a competitive team and that will take a couple of season. Expect some hard times after this season. They're coming.

I would observe that postings here become part of your permanent record. There’s always a possibility that events could exceed expectations and leave one looking like one big sour grape for the whole world to see.

I would love to see the scrub recruits turn into blue chippers. Once in a while in college hoops a "project" player does turn into an all-conference player and once in a blue moon even an NBA prospect. Most stay Ellis Dozier.

This observation is based on many decades of keeping up with college basketball all over the nation... not just what happens in Athens or in the MAC. I could go ultra-positive unrealistically re: the direction Saul's recruiting has taken but that would not change what is on the verge of happening to the program. This season should be decent. Block, Dartis, Taylor...it will be tough to lose those 3 veteran players. I would love to be wrong and eat crow, but realistically... next season is going to be the start of a big downturn unless game changing transfers or grad transfers are involved.

If things do go really bad due to lack of legit D-1 talent in the next few seasons, feel free to blame my posts instead of the coaching staff. I don't mind.

(USF, Loyola Marymount, Detroit Mercy were really really bad last season, so that should help balance out the tough pre-MAC games this season like Xavier, etc)

Exactly. This kid is from the Charlotte area? (where you live, right?) There are at least 3 D-1 basketball playing schools in or near Charlotte. UNC-C, Davidson, Winthrop... did any of them offer? OK, spread the map out a bit... what about WCU where Larry Hunter coached? UNC-Asheville? ETSU? UNC-Greesnboro? Wake Forest? (ok, that last one was obviously said in sarcasm, sorry)

Greencat, I have no doubt you are the most astute basketball mind we have here at BobCatAttack. I am sure you have studied all sorts of recruiting sites and have attended AAU events to see guys up close and personal in order to assess them. I respect your opinions that are no doubt formulated from attending practices and seeing live games in the Convocation Center on a regular basis. Adding that to reports from all the services and tempering those reports with knowledge comparing those athletes using the offers they have received brings an uncanny insight to us who go to the games, stream the ones we can not attend and augment the knowledge of those who attend practices but do not have your years of experience and insight. It is invaluable. Thanks so much for the contributions and daily drubbing of the recruiting and decisions. I am sure those fellows who no longer come to this site to get their daily dose of your accumen are worse without the incredible wealth of basketball pearls they are missing. Thanks for making this such an incredible place to get our insight into the program.

I hope this will still be a laughing matter next season and the one after.

I'm willing to eat crow if wrong. Most people won't do it.

By all means let's trash a young man before he even suits up. That's who we want to be, right?

Seems like some do. I'll agree with you on this one. I'll give any recruit a couple years before declaring him a miss.

I find the ridiculous uninformed complaining with the caveat, "Oh I hope I am wrong" or "I will gladly admit I was wrong if it turns out differently" not only to be uselessly annoying, but spineless, juvenile and just plain stupid. If you have something real to say, say it, back it up with solid analysis, own it and move on. Don't keep repeating yourself just because you were born a complainer and it gives you the kicks to vomit all over somebody else's day. I totally respect valid criticism but this stuff is trash and ruins an otherwise generally knowledgeable group of fans. And before we've even seen the team play together, before we have set eyes on some of these guys in Bobcat uniforms? Come on. If this is what people want to do on BA I'm done.

Hey I've been vocal about saying SP needs to recruit better and ultimately needs to win more. To date he's over-promised and under-delivered for sure.

But this thread is nonsense.

Go back to "researching" on verbal commits and youtube for crying out loud.

This recruiting class might stink, or be underwhelming. You may end up absolutely correct. But this level of pessimism, hyperbole and vitriol is not only premature and obviously biased but reeks of immaturity and a personal vendetta which I find uninformed, unappealing and quite frankly detracts from this fantastic site. It belongs in the comments section of social media with the other dredge.

Maybe this is a reasonable conversation to have come December or January if things go south fast, but not until then.

More like a year from December or January. We'll revisit this in 14-15 months.

If Vegas could set odds on you not bringing this up for 14-15 months, I'd put down $100 before seeing the line knowing I'd make a fortune.

Unless your livelihood is tied to knowing who any of these guys are before they ever hit the court in a game, I'd suggest The Brian Smith System of Player Evaluation and Fandom.

Be completely oblivious to who everybody new is and then you can just assume they're all great for six months. Then when they start playing, you can sort through who's a keeper and who's not but still keep it to yourself. And then you'll be wrong with that analysis anyways but your opinion on the players won't be out there so nobody knows you got it wrong. So then when they're juniors you just say knowingly on here: "I knew this kid was special. I knew it from day one" while the guys who you actually thought would be good have transferred to a community college in the plains states.

You can't lose with my system, which dovetails into my life system I've been perfecting in the real world for 10 years now: Just shut up and people will think you're smart.

I save my hot takes and uninformed blabbering for the coaches. Because they get paid a lot of money to deal with bozos like me.

It's a better system than just looking at who else recruited them. There are only two exceptions to that system: 1. If they are from the South and particularly from the Southeast then they are destined to be All-MAC. 2. If said player is from Nashville might as well start preparing his bust for Springfield.
