Should be a decent-sized crowd at the game on Saturday, but I expect it'll be hampered somewhat due to MU's football game against VaTech that was scheduled during the last week or so in an attempt to keep VT's long-running bowl streak in tact.
The Cats need to be ready to run up and down the floor at breakneck speed and hope that we hit a high percentage of 3s. MU will fire up shots from the 3 but many on the team have the ability to dunk inside as well. This has the potential to be one of our best games to see all year long.
If the OZone was ever going to make an appearance and have an impact on a game this would be a good place to start!!!!

The Marshall team really misses 6'9" Ajdin Penava who left the MU program last year. No one on the current MU team has been able to replace him. Penava really came on strong last year and was a shot blocking machine; who could bring the ball up the floor against a press.

So...do I need to buy an ESPN+ membership to watch the majority of the games moving forward or are there select games that we won't be on ESPN3? Does anyone know how it will work?

Sorry if I missed this discussion if it is on an earlier thread.

I was looking ahead last night, as I cheaped out on the ESPN+ to just listen to radio. Looks like more than half of the remaining games will be hiding behind the ESPN+ paywall.

I think Penava was Marshall's MVP last year, and that's no disrespect to Elmore. What's Penava up to these days?

I didn't want to do it, because screw ESPN, but I told myself I can cut back on some fast food and/or beer and afford $5/month to watch the Cats. Still cheaper than driving over to Athens or other MAC arenas for every game.

TV for the games isn't being announced more than a couple weeks ahead of time but most games seem to be coming up as ESPN+ so I'd expect that going forward as well.

Agree. I still haven't pulled the trigger yet because I HATE TO GIVE ESPN ANY MORE MONEY. FFFFFF THEM. But I might break down in January for MAC games.

I've been watching more games in addition to ours than I thought. So it's been worth it for me so far. Not sure what they'll offer once basketball ends.

I do like that they provide all of the 30 for 30 documentaries on there. I'll be watching those.

KenPom predicts an 81-78 loss (41% chance of Ohio winning). Marshall obviously plays quick. Their average possession length is 13.5 seconds, that's 4th fastest in the nation. Offensively, they average 107.7 points/100 possessions (82nd nationally). They turn the ball over just 15.8% of the time (38th best) and shoot the two well at 55.3% (63rd). Ohio's defense has been solid allowing 99.3 points/100 (ranks 94th).

The Marshall defense is solid at 100.4/100 (112th). Much of that is driven by causing turnovers. They turn the other team over on 25.4% of possessions (ranks 6th). Ohio struggles offensively scoring just 99.1/100 (255th). That's driven by 2 factors, poor 3-point shooting and turnovers. Ohio is shooting 22.6% from three (350th nationally). The Bobcats also turn the ball over on 20.9% of possessions (260th).

To be perfectly honest, I feel like this is the type of game we could struggle in. If Marshall is scoring efficiently, I'm not sure we can keep pace unless we shoot better than we have shown. I'm excited to see how we do but I'm not going to press the panic button (as some surely will) if we lose to a team that won an NCAA tourney game last year and returned a lot of firepower from that team. There's a lot of experience on their side of the court and not a lot on ours.

I'd love to see this be a game where we really try to impose will on the inside, play to our strengths and try to beat them up with our bigs. If it becomes a perimeter shooting match, I don't like Kirk/Cowart/Preston (even throw in BVP here) vs Elmore/Burks.

Based on what I'm seeing on Sagarin, etc., I'm guessing we will be three or four point underdogs.

Blah, blah, blah

We just need to make sure the burrito toss lands on their bench. Watz KenPom say about that? The burrito toss factor as likely a good prediction factor ans that this early in the season. And - If that One Man old dude Ozone is in the house - Well that can be a game/atmosphere changer. As well, performance of the bench water boys (which BTW - We seem to have some real issues there - gotta get that bench service/timely needs thing down......)
