By my count, practice for the upcoming season should have started September 26. Any reports out there about how things are looking?

Saul always produces some of the best practice squads in America. Unfortunately, this has not been translating to national dominance once competition actually begins. (Sorry, the basketball section of BobcatAttack.com has grown cobwebs on it over the summer, and so it is time to heat up the debate.) Will this be the year that Saul proves us all wrong, wins the NCAA tournament, and takes over as Coach K's replacement at Duke, or will the Bobcats be on the market for yet another new Coach by the beginning of this upcoming season?

Trolling for the "fire Saul" debate on October 2nd? That's a new high, or new low depending on the side of the debate you're on. ;)

I was curious and bored at work today, so here is SP's record against the MAC (including MAC Tournament):

Akron 3-5
Ball State 4-1
Bowling Green 3-5
Buffalo 4-5
Central Michigan 0-6
Eastern Michigan 4-2
Kent State 3-6
Miami 7-2
Northern Illinois 4-2
Toledo 2-3
Western Michigan 2-4

-As much clamoring as we do about not being on par with Buffalo, the two teams we really should be concerned with are Akron and Kent State. Up until last year's debacle Saul had a winning record against the Beefs.

-Miami still sucks

-Surprised we've done so well against Ball State. Although they didn't really start turning things around till Saul's 2nd year.

-Please. Solve. The. Keno. Davis. Problem.

What makes you so certain the market isn't already open?

Who out there will be any better than Saul, seriously? We had an uninspiring O'Shea. We went to a lightning in a bottle Groce and then a job skipper in Christian to a nice guy/too nice of a guy in Saul. In order for us to take the next step we need another Groce or a Nate Oats or a Hurley (I hate thinking this). Someone who will drum up excitement and go out and make the best talent come to us. Someone who annoys other teams when they play us but respects us after (I always feel that way with Oats, Whitford and Hawkins). Do you even think for a second that fans care one lick about Saul before, during or after a game? No, because he's vanilla.

If I could, I would like to redirect the conversation to the original subject. Anyone have any insight about how the new talent is looking in the early practice sessions?

Thanks Bernie - agreed. I'm sure sometime reasonably soon, The Post or Arkley will be doing a story on the basketball teams, right?

I read the story. It's pretty vanilla except to be quite a downer. Carter had "soreness" and Block and Dartis are banged up. Murrell came to us with an injury as well. Sounds like Gollon and BVP are good to go and Kirk is working on his J. Other than that, nothing new on Springs, Cowart, McMurray, James or Preston. Dougie will be ready to go I'm sure!

Sounds like a lot of stuff we already knew. Jordy and Gavin had offseason surgeries and Murrell was injured during his season at IHCC. Hopefully the Carter "soreness" isn't serious. He's the key.

Anyone know if any “secret scrimmage” is in the works this year. Seem to remember that we’ve had them against OSU and X the past few years.

I saw on social media that some players were on the osu campus yesterday so maybe they did have a scimmage.

Secret scrimmages are usually later (the week before the exhibition game).

I shot Arkley a question about the top 3 newcomers on Twitter in terms of the eye test. He said Cowart by far is No. 1 with his athleticism and no frills but effective game. Said he would play major minutes. He had BVP second and said he would be a very good shooter and solid big man. He said Preston is third and is pushing Kirk in practice. That's nice to hear to go with the returners in Gollon, Block, Kirk, Doug, Carter and Dartis (hopefully Dartis).

If Saul actually offered the kid in this video... the one who had a wide open dunk and shot it with two hands into the bottom of the rim...

???

(and what kind of travel ball was that from? The white-boy Olympics?)

It looks like the same kid even if they had a typo in the name.

Is this him... spelled either way...

Interesting that the same high school in Columbus has a 6-9 center named Ben Wight and also a 6-9 center named Ben White. And one of them learned how to dunk over the summer but couldn't last season.

Are they cousins? They do resemble.

I can't find where either has any other offers.
