How does a senior like Block who has been playing for four years score zero points on 0 for 5 shooting in 21 minutes? And he only has 3 rebounds and 2 assists? What is he doing when he's on the floor? Say what you will about TK but at least he's making things happen. I can handle Cowart not being particularly offensively savvy yet because he always has 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Block has had a few of these 0-fers this year. Weird and disappointing.

Detroit has already played 6 games against MAC opponents, so this will be a great gauge for MAC play. They are 2-4.(wins over BG and EMU)(losses to WMU, Akron, Kent, Toledo)
I’ll take the win, but this doesn’t bode well for conference play if this is a good gauge. Thankful he made the game winner, but can’t win consistently in conference play when point guard turns it over between 6-10 times per game.
From what I’ve been told, UDM is a totally different team at home. This was only their 4th home game. They’re 2-2, with this 2 point loss, and a 4 point loss to Kent (Who needed Walker to go for 36 in that one).

I guess if there is anything we can draw from this game is that keep winning despite turning the ball over so much. Just makes you wonder what "could" be if they didnt. I've never been so frustrated after a win.

Sual's lack of in game adjustments is mind boggling. I cant tell if its stubbornness, arrogance or stupidity. "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results."
Couldn't have said it better, bobcat28. The Bobcats looked like they have never seen a Zone defense before. Our said to be talented point guard has absolutely no court vision and plays like he is the only one on the court at times. We had a clear size advantage on Detroit Mercy, yet we played them as though they had three seven footers waiting to attack us if we decided to attack underneath the basket. What a disappointing effort all around tonight.

Hello! He's not a PG. What's your solution? Other than Monday morning QBacking? Love you guys who never played the game.

What is he doing taking the ball up the court, making terrible passes, and not kicking the ball out when he gets into trouble under the basket? If not a point guard; perhaps, Saul should sit him down and remind him that this is a team sport and not one-on-one basketball.

So whose fault is it we have no true point guard on the roster and we have to play guys out of position?

Injuries! Bad luck! Transfers! But....Antonio Campbell...and Jason Carter...and Jaaron Simmons....and Jordan Dartis...and...reasons!

I'll ask again, how many YEARS in a row are we going to deal with these excuses? Once is a fluke, twice is bad luck, every year for 5 in a row is a systemic issue - so while I agree each instance on its own surely negatively impacted each team on some level - YES it's still an excuse. Good coaches plan for the worst and have some form of contingency plan. Or, they adapt on the fly to the new circumstances and figure out ways to win anyway. It's a bottom line business. You only get so many mulligans. Saul's are running out fast.

I've been saying since last year Kirk either needs to learn to run/initiate the offense and improve his AST:TO ratio (dealt with it as a freshman, not so much as a sophomore) or stop playing PG. Either Saul doesn't care and is okay with this type of play (scary) or Kirk didn't care enough to put the work in and improve during the off-season (also scary).

What's even scarier is that, as good as Kirk is at other facets, we all knew TK wasn't a PG last year. It's why Block basically had to stop scoring and turn into our de-facto point forward. And yet, Saul's "answer" to the very real possibility of a PG situation again this year was - Jason Preston and Torey James. I mean, give him credit, at least he recruited some "guys". And - either or both could develop into decent MAC players before their time is done. But neither are impact players THIS year. That's on him.

I'll agree the turnovers are maddening and it's up to the coaches to work out this problem.

OTOH, I disagree that we cant attack a zone. Saul actually has a decent track record running offense against EMUs 2-3. Yesterday we eventually began picking apart Detroits zone. Blowing the lead didnt happen until Coach Davis decided to ratchet up the defensive pressure and forced a bunch of turnovers. And the missed fts had nothing to do with their zone.

There were back-to-back possessions in the second half where Ohio knew exactly what it was doing v. Detroit's zone. The first saw Preston getting a pass just inside the foul line and hitting a one-handed jumper. He went to the same spot on Ohio's next possession and had the same look but instead hit Carter near the basket for an and-one. Was hoping to see Ohio attack the zone in this manner more often.

It is plays like this that are quickly making Preston my favorite player on this team. He shows flashes of court brilliance not seen since the days of DJ. He still a little inconsistent, but he seems to be getting better each time out. Can't say that for some others -- particularly TK, and the streaky Block.

Flashes of DJ? Wow, I haven't seen it. I like the young man but I haven't seen the special court vision quite like that. In fact I've already seen him throw too many bad passes just waiting to be turnovers.

Dial down the dosage, OCF. I've seen a few things to like in Preston, but any comparison to Coop is ill-advised at best at this stage.

Antoine Davis went for 48 tonight and the Titans beat Wright St. 79-58. UDM is now 3-0 in the Horizon after going 3-9 in their non-conference schedule.

That was a heckuva impressive win. I could tell by seeing them in person that they have potential to right the ship and be competitive in the Horizon. And Davis is the real deal.

Davis is the real deal but they are one of the most undisciplined teams that I have ever seen.
