Predictions Update
Nov 17, 2018
• After losing to S Florida 73-46 yesterday, Ohio is now projected to finish the regular season 12-18 (6-12 MAC).
• The odds that the Bobcats make the NCAA tournament are down to 1%, a decrease of 4% since yesterday.
• We currently rank Ohio as the #228 team in the country, and the #12 team in the MAC.
It's depressing that this sober analysis looks pretty damn accurate.
This game should erase any doubt about the future. This hire has been a failure. And I say that as someone who's met him, likes him and respects him as a person. On a personal level, I don't relish seeing SP lose his job in March (maybe before that if this keeps up!). As a fan, a change is overdue.
This team:
*is young
*they will mature, grow and hopefully improve during the course of the season
*Carter will not normally be this bad with foul trouble hurting
*and we aren't going to shoot that poorly from the 3 point line
The verdict is still out on this team and after two games when people were all excited asking me what I thought about the prospects of this new team/new year my response was twofold:
1) I like "the hope" all the new faces give us. I liked SP didn't role out last years starters plus Carter (partially because injuries didn't allow him to) because we already knew that didn't work. New faces at least gave us some intrigue of "what might/could be."
2) My early season "total guess" was we'd be slightly above .500 and upper middle of the pack MAC finish.
I'm still not ready to accept the 12-18 projection, though it could very well be true. Because of the reasons I listed above, I'm going to wait this out and hope they grow and develop.
What hasn't changed however is my opinion on the direction of this program moving forward. Feel the same way today that I felt over a couple years ago and nothing has changed other than I hate that my worst of fears are coming full focus. And while my opinion back then was purely subjective, my guess is that season ticket sales, concession sales, parking sales, Bobcat gear sales, Bobcat Black seat sales, maybe even advertising sales (who knows on this one) have all felt the depression and provided an objective support to how this story ends. Continue to hope I'm wrong.
