Who were those guys? Will they be back? Don’t want to jinx things, but didn’t we have a losing record when Cooper and Bassett led us to the big dance the first time?

Jason Preston: 43 minutes. 9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 7 assists, 0 turnovers. Give him the keys to the car for good.

+1 I was saying that to everyone around me during the game. I held my breath every time TK brought the ball up the court. TK did get some key shots at the end, but he could have gotten those playing the small forward position. He's just not a PG, and Preston is.

Wisdom from SLO!

Dave, this team played their hearts out tonight. There was a determination that I haven't seen this season. If they can keep it put, they could put a winning streak together. The more Preston plays as the PG, the better off we will be.

Showed fight and had best ball movement of the season. Many of you pointed to Preston and I agree. He isnt a freshman anymore. I am quick to criticize Saul but he was fiery and coached a great game. Hoping they can build on it.

Maybe when you didn't make the sale, get a raise or promotion or get the employee of the month award at work, your family should greet you at home wearing paper bags.
Ummm.... don't you mean the saleS, get the raiseS or promotionS or employee of the month awardS

This isn't about one loss ....

Your analogy, like most of you "send in the clowns" rhetoric once again falls flat.

The program is ready for a change. That isn't a knock on Saul as a person. At $500k+ per year, the results they're getting isn't a good return on investment. It's time to go in a different direction.

Quit trying to make it like some crusade to crucify Saul Phillips the man.
My point is if any of your work life were subject to the same scrutiny you put on this basketball team, all of you would be crying like little children and would never leave the house. Nice win!

My son and I were talking about Preston during the game. He's the closest thing we have to a true point guard and the offense worked so much better with him out there. He deserves to get the reins.

Is take it a step farther. He IS a true PG. (my opinion)

And man, that was fun last night. Even if the score had gone the other way, that was still fun, and what I was looking for.

The way he passes reminds me of how Cooper would and I have to agree with you, he’s a true PG. I love the way he scores. He always shoots that smooth floater and always seems to find a way to find that shot.

Agree on Preston v. TK.

My concern about Preston is how he tends to leave his feet too often. Sometimes it doesn't get him in trouble, sometimes it leaves him with no one to pass it to.

Not a good habit. However, I seem to recall that Geno Ford left his feet often but that his teammates were aware and always anticipating him doing so and getting open for a bailout pass--which at times led to easy baskets for them.

Loud crowd helped by the ROTC crew and the Latin American student contingent. I'd say 5850 reported without looking it up. Big week coming up at Akron and Kent. Win one of those and Miami and that may be just enough momentum to win a first round game and get to Cleveland.

Just looked it up - 6008 reported. All I know it was nice to have a basketball atmosphere for once.

Better watch it with the DJ comparisons. I said earlier in the season in a post that I thought I saw some moments when he reminded me of DJ and I was told my Basketball IQ must be a negative number.

Preston has made solid strides during his freshman year but he is not even in the same discussion as DJ.

Maybe you took it the wrong way. They probably thought you had improved and at least got it up a little bit to more respectable numbers

Well hell, that’s just our opinions lol. But just because we say he reminds us of DJ, doesn’t mean we’re saying he is/will be DJ. When I said he reminded me of him, I’m talking about how Preston looks to pass to a certain spot on the floor. He seems to have good court awareness as a freshman

+1

Exactly!

Another person Preston reminds me of is Mike D'Antoni. He was a guard on the Marshall basketball team when I was on the faculty there in 1970-74. He had incredible court-awareness and could make passes to teammates behind him as though he had eyes in the back of his head. I'm not saying Preston is Mike D'Antoni, but I'm just saying that his court awareness and passing ability is somewhat reminiscent -- a little bit of the same style.

Of course, Mike was a second-round NBA draft choice in 1973, and is now a very successful NBA coach. So, I'm not saying that Preston has a big NBA career ahead of him. He just has some abilities that I saw in Mike years ago, perhaps not as developed, with perhaps a lower ceiling. Nonetheless, I think Preston is going to be a very good college basketball player.

I will add that Preston's ability to jump in the and make an instant judgement as where best to pass the ball might be one of the best in this regard that I've ever seen.
