With this game only a few hours away, I can't help but reminisce about a game in the Convo in the mid 1990s. A full house (on a week night if my memory is correct) featuring Gary Trent and Antonio Daniels. Anyone else in the house that night?

A big part of me expects an EMU-esque performance. We come out strong, maybe build a quick lead, then BG gradually pulls away for a comfortable win. I was skeptical of BG early on but they are proving to be a strong MAC team this year. We aren't. I'm not expecting to keep this within 10 points.
Here's what separates BG from Ohio, and several other teams in the MAC:

Turner
Laster
Frye
Lillard

Four guards/wings that get the most PT for them that are better than any healthy guard or wing we have. All make between 37-41% from three, and all can handle the ball. And then they have a couple guys behind them playing fewer minutes that are also competent. And that doesn't even include talking about Wiggins, who is a specimen, though I think Doug matches up against him really well.

We're not as good as them because our guards aren't as good as theirs. I'll be happy if it's a good game to the end. That in itself would be a positive step.

I remember one, where a Geno led Ohio beat Daniels and BG in OT. 10-11k in the house, something like 94-92 final score. I think it was 1996 or 1997. I don't think Gary Trent and Daniels played at the same time, did they?

I'll have to look it up.

I thought they did that night, but I could be remembering this incorrectly.

I don't have the boxscore, but 1997 towards the end of the season is the one I was thinking of. And as I looked, Antonio Daniels was a Soph when Gary was a Junior in his last year at OU. So you were correct.

Maybe when you didn't make the sale, get a raise or promotion or get the employee of the month award at work, your family should greet you at home wearing paper bags.
Ummm.... don't you mean the saleS, get the raiseS or promotionS or employee of the month awardS

This isn't about one loss ....

Your analogy, like most of you "send in the clowns" rhetoric once again falls flat.

The program is ready for a change. That isn't a knock on Saul as a person. At $500k+ per year, the results they're getting isn't a good return on investment. It's time to go in a different direction.

Quit trying to make it like some crusade to crucify Saul Phillips the man.

Was definitely there for that one in '97. 89-87 OT. Was quite a game. I remember the football team all being there in the student section just chanting "24-RIP!" because the football team beat BG at homecoming that year 24-0. That was the bad-ass 8-3 Grobe team.

One of two that year that stood out to me from the Convo. The other was early February when 16-3 EMU rolled in and Ohio won 71-70.

I think I sat on press row and nearly got stampeded by crowd when they stormed the court. Yep. That was when media actually sat courtside.

That team lost three times to a .500 WMU team led by Saddhi Washington ... including a home MAC Tourney game. Brutal end to that season ... one of many under Larry.

Me too, don't appreciate being reminded of it! ;-)

Got enough bad basketball to watch in real time these days, without being reminded of horrible basketball of yore . . . I remember feeling physically sick after that game . . . really totally unexpected to lay an egg in the first round . . . when we had realistic dreams of a MACC that year. We appeared to be peaking at the right time and had won something like 8 out of the last ten regular season games -- one of the losses being to WMU. They had our number that year.

I don’t but some people have faith in the Bobcats tonight. Line has moved from 5 to 4.5.

We win tonight 72 to 70. BG gets a great look for a three and misses, we get the rebound with .4 seconds to go and get fouled. We miss the free throw but the desperation heave misses everything. At least that's what the image on tonight's ticket says.

I want to watch the game you describe on CBS SportsNet, but given recent history, it might be destined for a Netflix production.

We shall see, or are seeing, just not on the OU site. It says "event about to start"... maybe this is why the players think this too.

Edit: Nice recovery... not sure about maintaining the shooting % for 40 minutes, but cut the turnovers and we win over the dog doo covered pumpkins.

cats seemed to get more productive with TK on bench and Preston running point in first half.

a couple good timing 3's from Block and Murrell after Doug got a couple buckets inside.

still too many TO and missed FT, but not a bad half!

Buffalo you are welcome.

Nice to see a W, and hopefully we locked up the eleventh seed in the Mac Tourny.

This is a winnable game, we had them on the ropes last time and then Laster and Turner got it going. We need to put pressure on them by hitting open shots. Go Cats

Play of the game?

A simple pass about 85 feet from the basket by an unguarded Gavin Block to BVP with about 15 seconds left in OT. BG, down a point, had to foul and I doubt Block wanted to be the player to go to the line with Ohio holding on to the slimmest of leads. Not after hitting just 1 of 3 from the line with 13 seconds left in regulation and Ohio down 2.

That 1-of-3 trip by Block tonight was an improvement from the MAC opener when he went 0-for-3 from the line late in OT and Ohio down 2. Not to mention that he did go 2-of-2 during a trip to the line earlier in the second half in tonight's game.

Good to see the team show resilience tonight. Thought for sure they would fold a couple of times down the stretch. They won despite poor FT shooting and a big negative turnover margin. This team lives and dies by 3-pt shooting. Great effort.

Saul showed real fire tonight. Expected him to get T'd up arguing the 50/50 ball that the refs ultimately gave to BG. He doesn't swear, does he.

Carter carried the game ball off the court. Was it for Saul?
