Absolutely pure class. They’ll do okay.

From her, and the Phillips family, I'd expect nothing less. It is nice to read the anecdote about the Boals offering up assistance back then as well. I wish nothing but the best for their family, and will certainly root for them at their next stop life.

Anyone care to speculate what sort of job Phillips may land? Hopefully his family finds a great fit where they are appreciated...perhaps closer to home.

Saul will get another job, but he may need to take a step back.
Larry Hunter did that and then returned to head coaching.
Nicole obviously needed to write this note to make her feel better about things. I get it and if writing this note helps her move past Saul's inadequate performance I am OK with it.

I think the story line about the avalanche of injuries plaguing Sauls time here will resonate with some ADs. I really do think and hope that he gets a second chance soon. Montana State has an opening since yesterday -perhaps a little closer to his recruiting wheelhouse, I don’t know.

Come on man, that was not necessary. Just piling on.
A classless post to go with a class one.

Good call...I have to believe out west or somewhere in Wisconsin. That is definitely his sweet spot for recruiting. Wonderful read. Best wishes to the Phillips family.

Not unexpected, but pure class - the Phillips family gets it.

Saul didn't win enough to keep his job at OU, it's just the truth, but both he and that family win at life - which is significantly more important than any hoops records.

I'm excited for Coach Boals and the future of OU basketball but will always be fond of the person and family of Coach Phillips. Nicole summed it up perfectly. We're in good hands - but so are they. Good luck wherever God takes you and your family Saul!

Depends on how you define your steps. Per her note, there are other barometers besides financial or title that we should all consider.

Very nice. Thanks for posting. Leaves me with kind of a bittersweet feeling. I'm excited about the Boals hiring, but I do have regrets about Saul's dismissal. It is possible, you know, to have complex, rather than one-dimensional feelings about such matters. Nicole really did lay it on the line, and this does show what a class person that she is. God bless the Phillips family!

Really excellent post and totally consistent with her humanity that runs through the entire family. Well Done....

I am sure Saul will do well where ever he lands. The MAC is resplendent with heads and assts bouncing back. Ray McCallum is down at Ga State as an asst in the Dance, Jermaine Henderson is out at Kansas, Charlie's successor is at OK St., Billy Taylor was at Iowa now in a different direction, Sendy and Dakich were at IN along with Ray and followed by Tim Buckley. There are many more but suffice to say Saul has coaching chops and the ability to relate to the young men he is around. Won't take very long.

Nicole's post was the epitome of class and kindness. Not surprising.

Agree with bornacatfan's assessment.

They really are a great family and destined for a happy life. I wish them all the best - not in that perfunctory way people normally say it either.

I'll share one small anecdote I think says a lot about Nicole. Late in a game last year, I was walking to the restroom during a lull in the action and was about 30 feet behind Nicole. Absolutely no one was around, and I watched her picking up trash from the concourse - just doing the right thing when no one was watching.

I will be pulling for them wherever they land.

Does anyone see him possibly doing some ESPN 3 broadcasts for mid to low major broadcasts where they need all the commentary help they can get?

Do they move to be closer to family before settling in to a new opportunity?

I agree. I follow her on Twitter, and while I don't read everything she posts, I do really enjoy her work. Inspirational and thought provoking.

Agree on all counts-the Phillips' are a class family and will be missed. I wish great things for them wherever they may go.
