BVP very one dimensional offensively.
He seems to hit that freshman wall after about 20 games, excluding his 24 point outburst. He needs to get better over the next three years with his conditioning and defense and consistency on offense.
Are you forgetting he put up 20 points a few days ago vs Akron, and that hes had several strong rebounding games?
I'm not forgetting that at all - he's great when the 3 is falling but has little/no mid-range game and even struggles from short distances.

Yes, he rebounds, but I'm talking offensive limitations.

He definitely needs to emphasize the inside and mid range game more, but he is very capable of doing that. I'd be more concerned if he wasnt capable.

He likes those Saturday away games (CMU, then Akron).

Not to belabor the point but how do we know he's capable of doing that? He's a coach's son but has shown little offensive ability beyond the 3. I hope you're right.

Has the recent showing in the last 4 games made anybody feel better about the quality of our players? It seems to me that it shows that we are not that far off-talent wise. Any ideas from you who have actually seen them okay?

I just don't see a roster with that one alpha guy who you know can get you a basket in the final minutes, a guy the rest of the roster can galvanize around. I thought that might be Carter? But it's tough these days for a guy who doesn't have the ball in his hands all the time to be that guy.

The talent is fine if they had a star to put it around. But that's true about almost every roster of any competent DI program.

I don't see the top-end talent guy that makes everything work. That does make it understandable to me why Saul has rode with Kirk so long. He's the only guy who had the potential to be the focal point.

The one play I couldn't figure out was the foul on Massinburg at the 37 second mark. We had just made a 3, closed within 3, and we foul Massinburg, a 78% free throw shooter who had just made 2. As crazy as the game was at that time, a steal or a turnover was a real possibility. Thoughts from all of you coaches out there.

I was looking at his game logs to see if he'd had recent struggles that might've made you want to foul him despite the stellar FT season-long numbers.

Nope. He's been really consistent and good at the line all season with no dips.

5-for-8 is the worst he's been at the line in a game all season. And that's one make/miss away from being a great night.

I believe that was a freshman mistake if you're talking about the one by Connor... if my reading of Saul's expression was correct, that wasnt what he wanted.

Saul's "loud out" = clinching last place in the MAC East. Congrats!
Way to preform in a contract criterial year for Saul. Can the Saul crowd propose the terms of an extension?

This hire may have pummeled the entire program. How many D-1 programs are underpaying for football success? We are! Hoops was set and now it's not. Christian's $500,000 buyout failure is the only way the AD was able to "lure" Saul to Athens. Think about that.

Hey, Saul is here for the long haul fans... you don't think he wouldn't want a raise to stay? if he was actually providing value on his original contract, and he ins't where would the 650 or 700K be coming from? The Convo home court advantage is dead and he ain't fixing it.

I watched a lot of close disappointing/heartbreaking loses under Hahn after Nee left. Don't remember many MAC or non-P-5 games down 25 at the half under his failed era, and I still enjoyed watching 2 NBA Draft picks play on a struggling team. How many draft picks are on this roster? Any NFL Antonio Gates prospects.

It's hard to tell. Oddly enough, the big difference over the last six games has been Taylor's offensive output. He was averaging about 7 pts until then, but in the last six he's averaging more than 12. BVP also is considerably up, from about 8 to more than 11. Everyone else is doing about the same. And even though the games have generally been closer, we're still just 2-4 over that span, 2-2 against teams other than Buffalo. I'd say our talent is about mid-range MAC but we still don't execute well on things like FTs and our 3-pt shooting (which we live and die on) is inconsistent. For example, in BVP's last eight games he's scored 12, 9, 24, 8, 11, 2, 20, and 2. (Does this mean he'll get double figures tomorrow night?)

Seems to me BVP's shot likes road rims a lot better than the home ones.

Sad thing is Connor is not a freshman.

Can't remember the last BVP made shot that wasn't a three-pointer or a shot inside five feet. Definitely needs to work on mid-range game and creating shots off dribble.
