To restore excitement to fans, it can't be the assistant head coach at someplace most have never heard of, and it can't be someone that feels like a retread scenario (JC?). Dane Fife, Andy Kennedy - names that people who follow hoops have heard of, in my opinion, would make a difference.
Think you're UC fandom is bleeding through a little here ;)

I'd be surprised if many fans know who Andy Kennedy is. You really have to be a pretty big college hoops fan to know him.

He spent one interim year at UC and then coached in relative obscurity at Ole Miss where most of OUr fanbase would lose a bet if you asked where he previously coached.

I don't think he's a bad choice at all ... but I think it contradicts your reasoning above. He's not really a known commodity ... but with some marketing/publicizing I could definitely see people potentially getting on board.
All the average student/townie/alum needs to know is
"12 years coaching in the SEC"
(with a winning record)

Because they have all heard of Kentucky, Florida, LSU, etc.
Good point bshott, and good reply greencat. The larger part of the point though is a name coach that can excite the fan base, and plays a style SE Ohio can get behind.

Too bad the AD will probably not have a search committee. You guys should all be on it! I like the way you think.

They'd be a lot cheaper than the average price tag most firms charge!

But, since he doesn’t consult anyone, his price tag is zero for consultation. Unless, of course, he puts in a request for reimbursement for his one-man focus group! ;-)

Can you imagine a search committee comprised of the BA posters?? Complete trainwreck. No consensus possible.

I'm not sure about that. My demands might be high. ;)

No kidding. There'd be some demanding that new coach recruit better than OSU, others would say if he doesn't emphasize "big manz" he's not worthy....and that's just scratching the surface.

Not going to lie ... a few nights at the OU Inn and a couple comps at Cats Eye and I'd be in!

And I already found a proven coach that is available and didn't charge a dime of consulting fee money for doing it.

If A.K. isn't interested, I can find a backup plan guy.

This isn't rocket science or brain surgery.

I was going for things we could all use:

Lights outside the Convo, ditch the barricades and half the yellow shirt army around the building. Heck, I'll ask for new hand dryers if it made people happy! ;)
