Stat line today: 2 minutes...0-1 FG
So does he quit and start training for NBA Draft now (sarcasm) or just head overseas to play in Turkey before January 1st? #LessonLearned #Kirk>Simmons #ChicagoPG>DaytonPG #GrassIsntAlwaysGreener

Things may change there, but I doubt it. I just have to feel that's it just such a waste of talent. I actually feel sorry for him, but he is responsible for his own decisions. So it is what's it is.

Listened to Dak talking about the lack of PG presence during the VCU game. Pretty good take on it with some breakdown as well.

I liked X in High School at Lima the couple of times I got to watch.

Suspect Dakich has a pretty good inside line on UM and a direct line to Coach B and the staff as to what they are seeing in practice every day. Listening between the lines on that analysis gives some insight.

Speaking of the ones that got away, Ryan Taylor is getting major kudos from Pete Gillen on the Evansville vs La Tech game. Has referred to Ryan as one of the best players in America that no one has ever heard of. Taylor is playing on a sprained ankle but still performing admirably.

It's natural to have so many opinions on a guy like Jaaron. He was embraced by Bobcat Nation. He led us to a lot of victories, was amazing last year without Tone and represented us well. Then he made a terrible decision to go to a team that most of us hate and a coach who is not using him. If D.J. would have left his thread would still be open!

Tuned in to my boys about to get that 4 OT win— Jaaron Simmons (@J5immons) https://twitter.com/J5immons/status/932351119174524928?re...
My boys.....hmmm....ok. He sure wasn't thinking of them when he left town.
He graduated! He left town to pursue a graduate degree among other things. So you hate Jaaron and Dozier. Anyone else?
Actually, I don't hate anything when it comes to OHIO basketball. In fact, I've never used that word concerning any current or former player on this forum. But thanks for trying to insinuate that.
So continually making negative comments, as well as false ones, about Simmons and Dozier isn't throwing them under the bus? Classy to pick on guys 18-21 years old. FYI .. Simmons didn't dribble out the clock intentionally as you've suggested multiple times. But nice try in trying to backpedal.
Jerry...please review my posts and find where I said Simmons "intentionally" dribbled out the clock? Let me save you some time because I never said that. He never made a pass or took a shot. The clock was dribbled out because of poor decision making in crunch time by an experienced point guard. I think just about everyone here on this board would agree with that. But continue to make things up that you think I said just to fit your narrative.
I actually have a life ... if I have time to kill I can find multiple instances of you saying he dribbled out the clock. Your animosity towards anyone who wears a Bobcat uniform who doesn't meet your expectations is astounding. But continue to criticize those who wear (or wore) the green & white.

It's a fascinating topic if you ask me and one that has had and will continue to have a huge effect on Ohio.

not exactly *long* gone but the subject of his transfer is just now getting some run on the broadcasts. If announcers are voicing opinions on the situation what is your point? You think UK fans that commented on Wilcher at Gonzaga were ....(fill in the blank)? Can think of thousands of comments from dozens of boards regarding tranfers over the past 10 years. Many of those were pretty vile and would not be tolerated by our mods....so in answer to your fill in the blank..... involved, informed, passionate and caring OHIO basketball fans.

7 minutes with 2 assists, 3 turnovers and no points in a blow out win today. Ibi Watson, formerly of Athens, also sees 7 minutes.

Might be just me but I hold Rodney in a different light than Jaaron. Transferring after your freshman season is different and can be for a number of factors. In Rodney's case he didn't see double digit minutes for us after January last year. In Jaaron's case we offered him the keys to the car and he said "No thanks, I'll ride in the backseat of the car over there." Unfortunately for him that backseat turned out to be pickup truck bed.

Speaking of transfers:

https://kendallcrute.com /

From what I can tell he seems at peace with his decision.

Jerry...you said that I said "he INTENTIONALLY dribbled out the clock". I never said "intentionally". The dude didn't pass...he didn't shoot...he held onto the ball. Thus, he dribbled out the clock. I've said it numerous times. What about this statement is factually incorrect? Several others on this board have written the same thing that Simmons dribbled out the clock. Sorry, if my analysis of OHIO basketball and its players through the years doesn't fit what you see. It's a message board and everyone has an opinion. Not everyone gets a participation trophy here. Get over it and continue to #BleedGreen

Jaaron averaging 11.1 minutes thru 7 games. Maybe I shouldn't say it but it kind of puts a smile on my face. Maybe he wasn't too big for Athens after all?

This. This is why I settled on rooting against him, even though I don't really have anything against him personally. This will stick for years. Conversely, if he was tearing it up and getting national attention, that could have really hurt us when players are faced with similar opportunities.

There are people who are celebrating his lack of success, but all I can think is arguably the MAC's best player (certainly top 3) can barely get on the floor in the Big Ten.

It has got to his head, the big ten is not that much better than the MAC. Michigan beat Central Michigan by two points. Simmons dominated Central Michigan when he played in the MAC. Simmons has struggled with his role and is suffering from doubt. Shannon Evans went from Buffalo to Arizona State and he is dominating.

The B1G is absolutely that much better than the MAC. Your one comparison of the Michigan schools isn't enough to make that statement reality. Consider with Evans that he's doing the exact same things for Hurley at ASU that he was at UB. That makes a difference. Simmons is struggling with his role because it's less than a year into a new offense for him, whereas for Simpson, it's year two. And, Simpson just might be a better player.

For the life of me, I could never understand why he'd want to go to Michigan. Go back near home to play at Dayton when they came calling? Yeah, for sure. I'd openly support that because it makes sense, and lots of players want to do it.

Zavier Simpson lost his job too. We beat Ohio State in a scrimmage last year. They have some elite teams, Michigan is not one. It's all in Jaaron's head, it is not the big bad B1G. We will play B1G teams in the future, we cannot afford to be gazers

Are you always gonna play your "moral victory", "gazer", etc. stuff? I thought by now you and I, and anyone else on here you play that card to, were well beyond that.

Simple facts - the B1G is light years ahead of the MAC in every regard - money, recruiting, resources, facilities. It's the way it is. Only the top 2-3 teams in the MAC can compete with the bottom three-quarters of the B1G on most nights. And 9.5 times out of 10, those top 3 teams in the MAC get absolutely shelled by the elite teams in the B1G. It's just the way it is.

Teams in the MAC have to have special players to beat B1G teams most nights. If you think back to 2012, DJ Cooper was that special player. (not that there weren't other good players on OUr team - he was beyond "MAC level talent".)
Simmons is not that special talent in the same way DJ was. It's not a slight to him - he was very good and fun to watch and root for.

From what I've seen this year, Simpson, Simmons, and Eli Brooks have been playing the PG merry go round, with Simpson and Brooks getting the lion's share of the minutes. Maybe Brooks is getting the start lately, but they're still playing relatively equal minutes thus far.

Big 10 play hasn't even started so that's not what is impacting Jaaron. It's opportunity. Below are Michigan's opponents. If he were playing for Ohio in the same role last year, his numbers would be much different. He was a cheap (one-year) insurance policy for Michigan. Unfortunately, he didn't gauge that before he made his decision. I'd like to see the NCAA give him a do-over.

I agree with you Ted - opportunity is his problem. Opportunities are less because the competition to earn the spot is greater.

I don't play moral victories, I speak against them. I do not gaze, stars are up in the sky, so I speak against gazing. Western Kentucky just beat Purdue, Florida Atlantic beat OSU last year and we beat them in a scrimmage by 10 points. There is a lot of parity in college basketball, so the MAC can compete with B1G teams. CMU is a lower tier MAC school and they could have beat Michigan. Jaaron dominated them while playing at Ohio and he was marginal at best in a Michigan uniform. You don't have to be special to beat a B1G team, you just have to believe and execute, gazing usually gets you beat down the stretch sort of like us getting beat by Minnesota in football. We praised them during the pregame press conferences and said thing like we have to play a perfect game to win. We came out and played one of our worst games and still almost beat them. Play to win, not to participate and good things will follow.
