Personally I would not have wanted that camera in that meeting. That is a very tough time for coach and player and we really don't need to be a part of that.
Agree. Now you have people speculating about kids who may have been tired, nervous, skeptical, bored... or none of those things. They looked like typical college kids to me.

Don't want to judge that 7 second clip either. Those players just lost the coach who recruited them and now are sitting in a room with a camera rolling with their new coach. It was going to be awkward even without the camera. Poor decision to have a camera there....poorer decision to use it in the piece. Would have been better off left on the cutting room floor.

I watched the presser on YouTube after it aired.

What I am not going to do is draw any large conclusions from introductory pressers like these. I did so with Saul and we all can see how his tenure went - not great.

Boals seems very competent and seems like he will attract the right type of players - gym rats, guys who want to be here and work crazy hard for a championship every year. I want to see in game toughness and adjustments.

The one thing Saul did very well was build a positive culture at Ohio. Unfortunately I think there was some complacency that came along with that culture, I am not sure if his culture drove players to be at their best 100% of the time. I think Boals will be an improvement in that regard.

We shall see. I love the hire and can't wait to see what is on the horizon for OHIO hoops!

This interview with Russ was pretty informative:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fe7S-wv7m1U

Boals said he ideally wants to play 4 out, 1 in, with pressure man defense mixed in with the occasional 2-3 zone or 3/4 court press mixed in.

He also discussed scheduling philosophy, although the proof will ultimately be in the pudding there, as every coach says they want to play a challenging schedule.

Personally, the thing I loved hearing related to defense, and specifically, playing not only pressure man, but sprinkling in some zone as it fits.

Also, the ideal lineup of a PG, 3 wings, and a Center.

I like what I've heard so far. Let's see how recruiting goes to draw more conclusions.

I'm guessing that if he stays that the PG will be Preston. TK will either be moved to another position (small forward maybe), or we'll see TK 2.0 in 2019-20.

Perhaps. Or...one of them, or both of them leave, and the PG is someone else?

Personally I think we should only recruit guys who slouch on the bench. If you’re sitting up straight that tells me you have too much energy left and were being lazy on the court.

Thanks for posting Russ interview.

Did anyone watch Stony Brook much this year or last? Is what Boals said about the style of play to expect here pretty much consistent with what you saw from Stony Brook?

Quick thoughts
-I like that he's willing to mix-in zone defenses into a primarily man-to-man scheme to keep opponents guessing.
-His scheduling philosophy seems to fit what we've been doing... I don't expect any change.
-From player personnel standpoint, seems like the biggest question is how well our bigs (Carter, Springs?) can fill the center role in his system. I'm assuming Vander Plas and McMurray are more of the "wing" role?
-I am happy with our PG situation between Preston, Kirk and potentially McDay.

Hard to speculate too much without knowing who decides to transfer...
