Geno was just appointed the interim HC at Stony Brook, so I guess it's possible he could be hired to replace Boals. I'm guessing they go with another young assistant, though.

And did Arkley just not want to follow the flights and report on any of this leading up to the hire? And now he's acting like he knew it was going to be Boals all along...pathetic.
Arkley was in in mourning over Saul... He completely missed all of this, just like he missed the reasons why Saul was not retained. Oh well he now can go back to bashing Trump every 3rd tweet.

If Boals is bringing the whole staff as is rumored, this may just be to get them through the postseason, then he's coming to Athens too.

I feel A LOT better about Carter staying and Jordy too, if he's healthy.

They are all Ohio natives I believe, minus Ops guy.
I like it the experience levels too- good mix of older and younger- some NBA connections in there too. I am beyond pumped right now. Did not expect JS to either move this fast or to hire Boals. Lets go...

first, i want to wish the fans and players at Stony Brook good luck. I know I HATE it when OUr coaches get plucked mid contract even though it's par for the course.

second, how many burritos from the Buggy do you think Jeff consumed in his 4 years in Athens? i only averaged a couple a quarter, i was a French bread Late Night Pizza guy

Now I’m wondering who is going to transfer. I would think this will be as smooth a transition as possible but a lot of players must have left Stony Brook if they only had 1 senior and 2 juniors this year.

Good catch Alan. Perhaps Pres. Nellis and the Administration’s not as cheap as some have speculated?

Impressed that Nellis and Schaus stepped up!

Whomever it is - stick around and enjoy the ride ;).

Some sour grapes on the SBU forum - not unlike what we'd see here when we're poaching victims. Still, it's laughable that some of them are suggesting this is a lateral move league-wise. The MAC's RPI this season is ninth out of all D1 schools while America East's is 25th.

To be fair it’s mainly one guy saying it’s lateral, and the rest telling that guy that he’s dumb

A good run by Buffalo in the tournament could go a long way in elevating the status of the league and hence Jeff's decision to come to OU.

Something tells me Stony Brook will be on our football schedule 2 or 3 straight years as a form of compensation.

Stony Brook’s leading scorer, two-time All America East G/F, Akwasi Yeboah, is a redshirt junior. Grad transfer anyone?

No idea.

Heard it’s favorable to both the coach and the potential to hold on to him if/when we make it back to being one of the Big boys in the MAC.

I’ll be around. Only planning to speak when I’m entirely sure of information. PMs are always open.

The hire works for me. Kudos to Schaus for getting this done. I'm gonna try not to be irrationally exuberant this time, just optimistic. :-)

Welcome (back) to Athens, Jeff!

Would not be surprised if Ohio's AD paid Boals the same salary or more that Saul earned. It has been a pattern that the next guy up gets more than the last guy. If Boals was earning $350,000 plus a season at Stony Brook then the Bobcats AD will probably give him $500,000 plus. I realize the Bulls just gave Oats a big extension, but with that track record they are getting a huge bargain as they have been the best team in the league the last five seasons. If this salary is comparable to what Saul made, it baffles me as to why Ohio's AD thinks we have to pay more than almost every league school.

Article by Arkley says that per the AD's office, the contract will be "comparable" to previous coach.

Arkley on the buyout- "Presumably, Ohio will be on the hook for $50,000 per the buyout clause in Boals’ contract at Stony Brook."
