At least one outlet seems to consider it possible:

https://www.newsday.com/sports/college/college-basketball...

However, the buyout might be prohibitive. Geno on the other hand.....

All that outlet is doing is reflecting what the Post and maybe this message board is saying. Means nothing.

If it's not Boals, who exactly are people hoping for?

Andy Kennedy's name is linked to Tulane. Why would somebody like Nathan Davis from Bucknell make what would be seen by some as a lateral move? Thad Matta is not going to take 500k a year to return to coaching.

Who could Ohio get for 500k/year realistically that is better than Boals when the more money endowed places can pay a couple of million a year for a top coach?

Please let it be Boals. Geno's only head coaching success was curating Jim Christian's momentum. When he actually had to build something at Bradley he was an abject failure.

How can one not believe a guy with two posts and the userid of "CrypticMole"? Must be a BA secret agent who has infiltrated the inner sanctums of the Athletic Department.

What style of play does Boals prefer? A bit more exciting to fans and attractive to players than SaulBall I hope.

I don't think he/she is a Bobcatattack secret agent but it is not far fetched to think a moniker like that was created by someone who has something to say but does not want anything to come back on them. Sounds like they are dying to tell but would be outed if their information had indeed, been given confidentially.

Your theory makes a lot of sense, but I still like my theory better! ;-)

I can tell you this - if it's Jeff, I'm 110% on board.

He was the heart and soul of those Bobcat teams in the 90s. He certainly knows the Ohio HS circuit and the MAC. I played for him over multiple summer circuits and basketball camps - and he's an amazing coach and motivator. He's put in the time as an assistant and now as a head coach at Stony Brook - with success every step of the way so far.

And, just like Saul Phillips before him, he's a great person.

If he's the next coach I can't guarantee his success at the helm of OU - nobody can - but I think he'll do just fine and make us all proud.

Color me excited for Bobcat basketball again if true.

*Side note - would be very interesting to see if Boals is announced Monday, I'm sure he'll be in attendance at the OHSAA State Tourney in Columbus next weekend - would love to see him convince McDay to stay with OU and possibly bring Ben Roderick along for the ride since he was recruiting him already at Stony Brook.

I think it’s a great hire. He should be able to compete for recruits in this area of the country and who better to sell Ohio than an alumni.

BA grammar police here: "alumnus," alumni is masculine plural! ;-)

Welcome home Jeff Boals! Should have happened five years ago, but happy that Schaus made this move. It's going to take at least two years for him to get this train back on the tracks. Recruiting begins now.

And did Arkley just not want to follow the flights and report on any of this leading up to the hire? And now he's acting like he knew it was going to be Boals all along...pathetic.

According to to Brian Snow, Boals is bringing his entire Stony Brook staff with him to Ohio:

https://mobile.twitter.com/BSnow247/status/11073477806311...

That means Geno back as well.

I have no problem with that as well. The Ford family name is obviously respected throughout the state. Get to work recruiting boys. Blessing in disguise that Stony Brook went out in quarterfinals of conference tournament. We need this staff watching Ohio HS State games this week.
