Playing basketball in a beautiful country right out of college. Not a bad gig if you ask me; perhaps, Simmons will become enthralled by the works of C.G. Jung and study at the Jung Institute there in Switzerland.

All that said, Simmons may have helped to save last year's miserable season for the Bobcats if he had stayed, but the kid had the courage to find out what the next level might hold for him. As it turns out, he was a back up player on a top Division I team. That's not too shabby, but does not translate to much of an NBA career. After all, it is better to know than continue to dream of what might have been; perhaps, Jaaron can now go on to have a rich and fulfilling life. Come on, Ohio Alum are more than one dimensional individuals.

Just think, if he’d have stayed. He’d probably be playing next to LeBron in LA.
Either that or doing pizza delivery for Avalanche! ;-)
No way, would have been MAC POY and had a great shot at a high draft pick. I mean what a horrid decision
I agree it was a horrid decision, but do you really think he would have been a high round NBA draft pick? You are better at assessing basketball talent than I'm, so I'll say that you may be right, but this statement surprises me. Anyone else?
Your inability to pick up sarcasm never ceases to amaze me. I have supported his decision from day 1. He fullfied his commitment to OHIO University.

I will root for Simmons to dribble out the clock with his team down 2 with 6 seconds to play every chance I get. He doesn't wear our uniform anymore. Don't care.
None of the other former Cats who graduated from OHIO University. Wear our uniform either. Great fan, “done with you after you graduate” mentality what poster child for recruits you are.

Wait a minute here...

I thought he transferred to pursue a graduate/masters degree?!?!

Does Michigan offer those special 1 year masters degree programs and I didn't realize it?

I mean - is he giving up the ghost after just 1 year in his academic pursuits and throwing in the towel to play roundball in Europe?

This is crazy. I never saw that coming. Color me very very skeptical.

/Sarcasm.

Sorry, I'm a pretty sarcastic fellow myself. I've used it on this board a number of times. All I can say is that your sarcasm is even more warped than mine. After my first post reacting to your statement most folks would have said that they were being sarcastic so as not to be misunderstood, but you carry it a step further and pile on. This makes it appear that you are serious. Should have known better.

There is no way to argue that going to Michigan turned out to be a "good" career move for him.

It's ultimately his choice - and he got to experience the thrill of a March Madness run (although mostly from the bench).

Who knows what he values most. But from a career/future value standpoint, he clearly shot himself in the foot.

This thread is still alive? Get over it. I'd like to see some of the decisions people on this board made hold up in the light of day.

This is easily a Top 10 Worst thread in the history of Bobcatattack.com a current athlete recently mentioned to me that he glanced at it and wondered why “people Are salty” when athletes transfer out but not in.

Because we are all OHIO partisan hacks. Or, to use a current, way overused cliche, "It's in our DNA."

This thread continues on because there is very little else at this time to get excited about in terms of Ohio Basketball. Simmons was good enough to see playing time on an NCAA Champion Basketball contender, though not good enough to start. Frustrated fans are still trying to vent their anger at something or somebody tangible instead of accepting the fact that the Bobcats Basketball program is on a steep decline, while the Football Program continues to rise. The fact is the we are nowhere close to where we were when the 'Cats pulled off the impossible and made some noise in the NCAA tournament a few years back nor does there appear to be any reasonable chance of returning to such heights. Whether it is the coaching, the level of talent currently being brought in, or the fact that Ohio now appears to be a football school (pinch me, I am still convinced that I am dreaming), the simple fact is that the air seems to have gone completely out of the high flying balloon that was once a proud program that, if nothing else, was feared. I am not trying to be negative, just realistic. After all, I would like nothing more than to see the Bobcats return to being competitive in the MAC at least for starters. However, we are not even in the same conversation as Buffalo and Toledo. I fear too that we are about to be eclipsed as well by the likes of Akron and, God Forbid, Miami!

I am not angry at Simmons. He served his time. He is a Bobcat for life in my opinion. Thanks, Jaaron, and good for you for moving on to bigger and better things. What this kid apparently knew and we didn't is that there was nothing to stick around for. After all, there is no upside to sticking around on a sinking ship. At least Mr. Simmons once again proves that Ohio Graduates are smart. I wish him well in Switzerland.

In the meantime, wouldn't it be nice if we had something else exciting to talk about. Due to the fact that we don't at the moment, I look forward to this thread continuing on and on and on, until somebody steps up or something else happens that puts the success of Mr. Simmons on the back-burner for now.

Oh, yeah, I am also going to follow young Burrow at LSU and Gary Trent's son at Portland. Why? It is because they are part of the Bobcat family too.

There's some of that saltiness here, there's also a lot of curiosity about how Jaaron was doing. I have seen tons of posts on this thread that were not negative. I, personally, followed his time at Michigan with a lot of curiosity. How was a guy who was a star player in the MAC for our team going to fare at a bigger school on the biggest of stages?

Why are people salty when someone transfers out but not when someone transfers in? I think that's obvious. Someone transfers in because they want to be a part of this program. Someone transfers out, the opposite. Take two people, for instance. One wants to be a part of your life, is very into you. Do you view that person differently than a person who leaves you because he/she thinks there is something better?

I believe that this is where we really miss Monroe. He could come in, hijack this thread with something political, and send it to Siberia and/or get it deleted entirely.

As a guy who doesn't start many threads, I consider this possibly the greatest accomplishment of my BA career. Born out of a genuine curiosity because I was wrestling with the decision myself, I never dreamt it would grow to this.

Really, the thread evolved into pretty consistent updates on Jaaron in his life after Ohio, with a mix arguing in and out. I don't see why we should be embarrassed by it.

Agree 100%^^^^^^^. I just can't believe how so many people get worked up over this stuff. It's a message board folks. We ain't performing brain surgery here. Simply having fun, thoughtful discussions about Ohio basketball. And congrats Andrew on creating one of the all-time great threads in BA history. I'm almost over JSmooth dribbling out the clock against Kent in the MAC semis.......almost. Whoops...I'm sure I just offended a sensitive Bobcat fan. #DontDribbleOutTheClockInSwitzerlandUnlessYouHaveA20PointLead

Jaaron was just channeling his inner JR Smith. It's all good. We're past that now.
Don't need any snowflakes getting #triggered. We might have to turn the Convo into a safe space.

I'm still curious how his academic pursuits went. Since, ya know, that's the "reason" for the grad transfer rule to exist in the first place *wink wink nudge nudge*
