Nutrition is a big deal as most P5 conference school feed their athletes and have nutritionists on board. I have discussed this ad nauseum. Talking to coaches that have moved to other schools they discuss this as a major difference from Athens.

Practice facilities are a major selling point to athletes who are dedicated to their game and listen to players and coaches describe the Convo crunch with so many programs splitting time and facilities.

Sitting at the red light and watching a team that is hot and sweaty get bundled up for a mid practice maintenance lift, walk across the street, get unbundled, lift, get bundled back up and go back to the convo to finish practice in 20 degree weather and NOT expect them to get sick is a bit insane.

The reality is today's athletes and parents are looking at facilities with a greater understanding than 10 years ago. The academic center is a move in the right direction. Groce thought he had made a major change when he got Muscle Milk and snacks in the locker room but not much has been done since then. Kids living off campus are really at a disadvantage with regard to fueling their bodies. Those same kids who grew up eating Doritos and junk are on their own in an apt. There is a need for a nutritionist to monitor their intake....something we clamored for in the training room aand got with Majerus 30 years ago. Kids from the Detroit ghetto learned about food as fuel while Rick kept sitting in his hotel room and ordering pizzas every night while watching film. Can't win em all.

I completely agree with you about nutrition.

It’s not hard to see why guys at this age take it for granted. Most guys at this level are “natural athletes” meaning they can eat whatever and still be a freak in the gym... but how good could they be if they took nutrition seriously.

Should be a focus of the athletic department to make this a priority

Might be a good topic for Jim Schaus if anybody has a chance to ask on a Bobcat Caravan circuit. Would be interesting to know if they have ever really researched this, as it seems to be such an obvious benefit for all of our athletic programs.

If a facility were to be constructed, which it won't - at least in the next 5 to 8 years - it needs to be adjacent to the Convo so players can go directly from existing locker room and training facilities to the court. But the need to add it to the Convo means added cost related to flood plain, etc.
That could work. Tunnel back to the Convo. Build it on any of the close parking areas, just like the Convo. In the rear of the Convo would be good. Parking on the ground floor. Then 2 stories of 2 gyms each. That would get it out of the flood plain. Not cut down on parking and get the facilities needed.
